Harley Finkelstein is an entrepreneur, lawyer, and the President of Shopify. He founded his first company at age 17 while a student at McGill. Harley completed his law degree as well as his MBA at the University of Ottawa.    Harley was one of the “Dragons” on CBC’s Next Gen Den and starred on Discovery Channel’s I Quit. He received the Canadian Angel Investor of the Year Award, Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 Award, Fortune’s 40 Under 40, and was inducted into the Order of Ottawa.    From 2014 to 2017 Harley was on the Board of Directors of the C100, and from 2017 to 2020 he was on to the Board of Directors of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). Mordechai Shapiro was born in 1989 in Monsey, New York. Born into a musical family, his father is a chazzan and his mother has a background as a trained opera singer. He learned in yeshiva in Ashar, Netiv Aryeh, and Yeshivas Bais Yisroel. Shapiro made his musical debut as the star soloist of the Miami Boys Choir. After leaving the choir, Shapiro took a break from music until his voice transitioned sufficiently. He was a student of legendary voice teacher William Riley. He worked in other jobs and was a regular at birthday parties, bar mitzvahs, engagements, and as a one-man-band. Eventually, he began performing at weddings and other Jewish events as an independent artist.  Mordechai is one of Jewish music’s hottest and most gifted performers. He also teaches music at HANC. He has been described as having the "ability to do things with his voice no one else in this business can". As an artist, Shapiro takes pride in the fact that his songs are message-oriented, “In every song that I sing, there is a distinct message of positivity and joy that I aspire to promote through my music.” This episode is brought to you by Touro University! In 2008 Rabbi Chaim Danzinger and his wife Kaila, sold all their belongings and moved from Pasadena, California to Rostov-on-Don, Russia with their two young children. They made this radical move to revive Jewish life in a city that was decimated by the Nazis during the Holocaust. Tzili Schneider is a veteran teacher, a member of the Orthodox mainstream, the mother of eleven and a woman who cares. Deeply.   Tzili grew up in Meah Shearim surrounded by all shades and hues of Jewish life. She remembers as a little girl dancing joyfully with soldiers following the capture of the Kosel at the end of the six-day war.   As she grew up, Tzili noted that the general atmosphere in Israel outside the sheltered alleyways of her youth was diametrically different. She began to encounter hostility and mistrust, dissension and stigma.   In fact, when she worked as a teacher, she rode the public bus every day alongside another staff member. But they never spoke because Tzili was religious and the other woman was not.   Tzili desperately wanted to do something to bring her people together again.   In 2012, she fulfilled her dream. Yonatan Razel was born in New York and moved to Israel at a young age with his family. He won "Singer of the Year" and "Song of the Year" from Ynet in the fall of 2007. Yonatan gained fame in 2009 for setting the Jewish liturgical poem "Vehi Sheamda" to music for Yaakov Shwekey. Larry Gordon was born and raised in Brooklyn, and has six children; including Nachi Gordon, co-host of Meaningful People Podcast. He is a veteran journalist, writing stories on Jewish life and related issues for thirty years. He is also the acknowledged creator of modern Jewish radio. On October 7th, Hamas terrorists stormed into the home of Hadar and Itay Berdichevsky in Kibbutz Kfar Aza, one of the Israeli communities along the Gaza border. Hadar and Itay— both 30 years old—were butchered in their own home. Miraculously, their 10-month-old twins survived. The babies were found—rescued by the IDF—14 hours later, crying in their cots. Their parents’ bodies lie in pools of blood around them. Maya and Dvir also survived the massacre on Kfar Aza that day. The Airley’s made aliyah from the United States in 2006. Binyamin attended yeshiva, spent time in Eilat, and worked on the family’s farm, including most Shabbats.   Binyomin Airley joined the front lines of the battle VS Hamas to secure the land of Israel and protect the Jewish people. He unfortunately was killed in battle.   At his shloshim, a moving kumzitz led by Shlomo Katz began with people singing softly in their seats and evolved into heartfelt t’filah with people standing and swaying, arm in arm, many with tears in their eyes. Jennifer interrupted the singing in the middle of a song and commented that she noticed too many sad faces in the room. She explained that this was not meant to be an evening of crying. It was meant to be an evening to honor Binyamin and open our hearts using songs for t’filah. She begged that people open the gates of Shamayim with t’filah b’simchah, even with the pain. Jennifer teaches by example how to keep going. This week we sat down and spoke with Yossi Landau from ZAKA. Founded in 1995, Zaka's volunteers arrive at the scene with one mission: to recover the bodies of those who die in an unnatural way.   In Judaism, a person must be buried whole. ZAKA's crews work tirelessly to recover as many body parts as they can from the scenes they are called to.  It's considered the greatest mitzvah a Jew can perform for another person.  Yossi Landau has been with the organization for 33 years and has been all over the world. Dolly Rabinowitz was born in Berehove (then Czechoslovakia, now Ukraine) to a rabbinical family. When she was 19, Dolly and her family were taken alongside the other Jews of the neighboring villages to the death camp of Auschwitz. From there she was forced to endure the barbaric cruelty of Auschwitz and the Death March to the Ravensbruck concentration camps. Rachelle Fraenkel’s son Naftali was one of three teenage boys kidnapped and murdered by Palestinian terrorists in Israel on their way home for Shabbos in 2014. She was thrust into a public role, exhibiting tremendous courage, fortitude, and kindness.    Recognized as one of Israel’s most inspiring women, Rachelle advocates for Jewish unity before audiences worldwide. She is a legendary pioneer for intensive text education for frum women. She is a longtime educator at Nishmat and the director of the Advanced Halacha Program at Matan.
