Singer and songwriter Yossi Bayles’s language of expression, is that of music. When he feels something deeply, he lets the notes of the melody convey his feelings on the matter. When the massacre occurred in Israel on October 7th, Yossi couldn’t write a single note. Like all of us, he was so overwhelmed and devastated by the atrocious acts committed on that day, that it was hard to put into words, let alone notes. A few days after the massacre, Yossi was contacted by a friend who had sent 70 suitcases to Israel with much needed aid and items for displaced families. It seemed that this shipment was held up at the airport. Up until that fated day, when large shipments were being sent for business, they required a lot of paperwork. They were hoping Yossi, with his Israeli contacts, would be able to get the aid released into Israel to the families. After a few phone calls, Yossi finally reached the right person and explained the situation. Baruch Hashem the content was released and the people of Israel were happy to receive them. Over the next few weeks, Yossi did similar work, phoning people in the government as well as commanders in the army to see what was needed and to get those things to Israel. What started off as clothing and items for displaced families, turned into vests and gear for the IDF. Bayles’s tireless work over the last five weeks has been a huge undertaking. On the phone during the night with the commanders and generals, and during the day gathering the needed equipment for shipment. To date, they have collected and distributed over 7 million dollar’s worth of good and material needed. A few days ago, Yossi needed a break. He felt that all the excitement the soldiers had about going back into Gaza after all these years, was lost after these past five weeks with all the tragedies. They were still at war, with all of the hostages still in HASMAS clutches. It was then that Yossi went back into his drawer of unfinished songs that he found one that he thought would reinvigorate the IDF soldiers and give them a much needed boost. The song titled Erdof Oyvai was written over nine years ago during Israel’s last operation. The lyrics are from Tehillim and they discuss when Dovid Hamelech went to war. The words translate” I have pursued my enemies and overtaken them, never turning back until they were consumed. I have crushed them so that they cannot rise; yea, they are fall’n. under my feet.” These words coupled with the fast rock arrangement are a perfect anthem for the soldiers of the IDF to sing and dance to while they win this war with HAMAS. As a matter of fact Bayles already sang the song to a few of the IDF commanders with whom he been in contact with and they were dancing and singing it with much enthusiasm. It is with this hope that Yossi releases the song, with the hope that this war comes to a quick end with all the hostages returned to their families and the coming of Moshaich speedily in our days.
