Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord
A modern Jewish tradition right after Pesach is to rush to the nearest pizza shop. Our craving for chametz, or leavened bread, seems endless. Even during Pesach, many manufacturers and stores create substitutes that closely mimic chametz, making it hard to distinguish between foods that are kosher for Pesach and actual chametz.
Fortunately, we live in an era of great technological advancements, but perhaps we've lost some important messages along the way. This song was written to remind us that our deep desire for bread should instead be directed toward a yearning to connect with our creator and to immerse ourselves in the profound words of His Torah. Hopefully, we can channel as much enthusiasm into going to the Bais Midrash to learn Torah as we do heading to the pizza shop after Pesach. Wishing you a joyful and kosher Yom Tov!
