Berditchever Boys Berditchever Boys

The song tells the epic story of six young boys learning in an underground yeshiva in a small soviet city called Berditchev, located in present day Ukraine. The heroic tale is given over in bits and pieces, and goes on to describe the group's sudden arrest, culminating in their grand escape, orchestrated by Rabbinic leaders of that time. The inspiration for this song came from a trip to Ukraine and Russia I took in my second year of seminary, over ten years ago. Led by the legendary Aharon Eliezer Tzeitlin a”h, we were taken to a myriad of holy sites all over the region, but one of the most memorable stops was our time spent in Berditchev, reliving the story of these boys, one of which was Rabbi Tzeitlin’s father. His passion for retelling this tale was so contagious, it was something that would live with us all forever.
