The song begins with a Hebrew verse taken from the prayers for the Fast of Gedaliah: תורה הקדושה התחנני בבקשה פני הצור נערץ בקדושה With your holy Torah please grace me, O mighty Rock, exalted in holiness. Then the song moves to a heartfelt Yiddish chorus: איך וויל לערנען האבן חשק אין קענען דיין הייליגע תורה דיין לעכטיגע תורה Ich vil lernen, hubin cheishek in kenen, dan heilige Toireh, dan lechtige Toireh.
