Lemaan Achai Carlebach
(I’m not a pianist and this wasn’t rehearsed. Music is just one of my coping mechanism to get through all of this Corona stuff....last night Ahuva videod this and I decided to share it)
This is one of the most famous Jewish songs. It is a song about brothers, about one nation...in essence it is a plea for peace!
In a time of such uncertainty we need to come together. Together doesn’t mean demand exactly the same reaction and service from everyone. It means to unite with our differences, to pool our unique strengths.
Yidishkeit isn’t about one opinion, the Talmud is made up of 63 tractates of arguments, different opinions and discussion, arguments of Hillel and Shamai, but one common thread, an argument for the sake of heaven.
The last week has been a particular difficult time for me and my family. In addition to the concern and stress around the current Corona situation, we’ve received some terrible messages and social media comments based on assumptions that were not always correct.
The Beis Hamikdash was taken away from us because of Sinas Chinam. If we want to restore our Shuls to their previous glory, let’s not repeat this mistake.
This is my plea, next time we are about to send that sharp WhatsApp or biting Facebook comment, that we take a minute to think, chat to a confidant, and once we are certain of the facts and that our message is necessary and helpful then send it.
We need to unite in our differences
My plea to us all.
Lyrics
Because of my brothers and friends
Because of my sisters and friends
Please let me ask, please let me sing, Peace to you.
This is the house The house of the Lord I wish the best for you,
This is the house The house of the Lord I wish the best for you.
