Jordan Penkower introduced the alto saxophone into modern Jewish music. He was a member of the original Mark 3 Orchestra, which released the ground-breaking LP "The New Jewish Sound". Later, Jordan formed "Jordan Penkower and the Sterling Sound". They released two LPs: "The Return to Jerusalem", "Jubilation". All three of the above LPs are available in CD format. After completing several advanced degrees at Yeshiva University, Jordan moved to Israel and completed his PhD degree at Hebrew University in Bible. He then taught for several decades at Bar-Ilan University, in the Dept of Bible, where he became Professor of Bible. Jordan has published 8 books and over 50 academic articles in his fields of expertise: (1) Bible Manuscripts, Printed Editions of the Bible, Masorah; (2) The Bible in Rabbinic Interpretation; (3) Medieval Jewish Exegesis of the Bible, especially Rashi's Commentary on the Bible.
