Daniel Small possesses a wealth of experience in some of the most prestigious synagogues in the United States and Canada. He attended Yeshivat Tifferet Mordechai in Jerusalem, received his B.A. in Psychology from Touro College and his Rabbinical ordination from the Yeshiva Gedola of Montreal. He studied music and vocal training with Irina Bubniuk and currently with Stefano Algieri at McGill University. Additionally, he studied Chazzanut under Chazzan Aryeh Subar, the former dean of Chazzanim in Montreal. With his contagious enthusiasm, Daniel possesses the unusual gift of being able to identify with his crowd, tailor his music to his audience and actively include them in a service by combining ancient traditional Jewish music with modern day inspirational tunes. This unique combination has proven to be highly uplifting and connects to individuals from all walks of life. Moreover, he is a talented guitar player, who can play virtually every genre of Jewish music from Shlomo Carlebach songs to ancient Sephardic piyyutim. Cantor Small has served as full time Cantor at the Beth Shalom Synagogue in Ottawa and at the Shomrim Laboker Synagogue of Montreal for four years. Furthermore, he has appeared as a guest Cantor at the Young Israel of Flatbush, Young Israel of North Beverley Hills, TBDJ and the Lower Merion Synagogue, to name but a few. He has officiated at the venerated Jewish Center of Manhattan’s main service for the High Holidays and has served for six years as the Chief Cantor for the High Holyday services at the reputable Kingsway Jewish Center of Brooklyn, New York. Cantor Small has completed an MBA at the John Molson School of Business of Concordia University and is currently completing a recording of his musical compositions. He resides in Montreal with his wife and four children.
