If there was ever a first family or dynasty of Chassidic/Jewish music, the Werdyger family would be it. The legacy started decades ago with Reb Duvid Werdyger, both as a cantor and recording artist, whom many consider the man responsible for Chassidic music today. From there, two of his sons, Mordechai and Mendy both went on to have illustrious careers of their own. Going on to a third generation, the talent continued to trickle down to his grandchildren of his prospective sons, Yeedle and Yisroel. Yisroel Werdyger, better known as Sruly is no new name to Jewish music fans. His father Mendy, is not only a great singer and ba’al tefilah, but he is also the owner of Aderet Distributors and Mostly Music, the biggest music store in the US. Growing up in a family of Ger Chassidim, naturally Sruly listened to the best in Chassidic music including the great melodies of Reb Yankel Talmud the legendary Ger composer. As a child, Sruly was known to have a spectacular voice, and it saw him singing on dozens of albums, including both his father’s and grandfather’s albums. Sruly’s voice has this special sweetness to it, the result in a combination blending both his father’s and his uncle’s voices. In 2007, Sruly played around with the idea or recording his own album. It was around then that he met a then buddying producer named Gershy Moskowitz who saw the talent that Sruly would become. Immediately, Gershy Moskowtz and Yossi Tyberg, then known as A TEAM productions began working on his debut album “Bayis Neeman.” The undoubtable break out hit of the album was the title track composed by then unheard of talent Motty Illowitz. The song became very popular in the industry and there was no wedding where Bayis Neeman wasn't sung. With each album, he became known for his hit songs. Among them were; Dovid Hamelech, Ve’ahavuschu, Mesikas Hatorah and many more. His albums are arranged by the top arrangers in the industry including Shua Fried and Yanky Briskman. From there Sruly’s fame began to grow as he started to become a household favorite. He went on to release three more albums with Gershy Moskowitz: Ashira V'azamra, Odeh Lokeil and most recently Avorcho. At heart, Sruly has a special love and feeling for Chassidic songs bringing the real feel of a Jewish song. Not only is he one of the busiest wedding singers today, but he also is a great ba’al tefilah clearly inheriting the family specialty. Over the last few years, Sruly has traveled the globe, from United States to Canada, Israel and Europe performing to the masses at events and simchas. He is currently working on his 5th studio album which will be released iy”h this coming year.
