You eat, you get full, you say a blessing. Sounds basic, until you realize the Torah treats that moment as a game-changing commandment. We start with Parsha Eikev’s promise of a “good land” and zoom in on the verse that becomes the source for Birkat Hamazon: eat, reach real satiety, then bless Hashem. From there we get practical fast, including what “full” actually means in halacha, why the obligation depends on your personal threshold, and why this mitzvah may be one of the most repeated spiritual acts of an entire lifetime. Then we tackle the question that should bother anyone paying attention: how can a human being bless the Creator, the source of all blessing? You’re told to mourn the Beis HaMikdash, but you’ve never seen it. So what are you actually supposed to feel during the Nine Days and on Tisha B’Av, and how do you get there without faking it? We sit down with Rabbi Don Jarashow to chase an honest answer: mourning isn’t a mood you either have or don’t have; it’s sensitivity you can practice. We talk about why the classic Nine Days customs (less music, fewer pleasures, pulling back from comfort) aren’t meant to make you miserable. They’re meant to create space. When you limit what usually fills your attention, you finally have room to notice what exile means, what it means to say the Shechinah is in pain, and what it means to want redemption and geulah in a real way. Rav Yitzchok Zev Soloveitchik - The Brisker Rav: The Influential Leader of Brisk YeshivaYitzchok Zev Soloveitchik, born to Chaim Soloveitchik in Valozhyn, was a prominent rabbi and leader of Judaic studies in his region. On his mother's side, he was the grandson of Refael Shapiro, a respected rosh yeshiva of the Volozhin yeshiva.After the czarist government closed the Volozhin yeshiva, Soloveitchik and his family moved to the Jewish community of Brisk, where he succeeded his father as a rabbi and continued his teachings. Later, after fleeing the Holocaust and relocating to Mandatory Palestine, he re-established the Brisk yeshiva in Jerusalem, where he continued to educate students, developing the Brisker method of studying the Talmud. • Rabbi Kahaneman was born in Lithuania in 1886 and attended several Yeshivas growing up.• He married the daughter of the rabbi of Vidzh and became rabbi there at the end of 1911.• After 1919, he was appointed rabbi of Ponevezh, one of the largest Jewish centers in Lithuania, where he built three yeshivas and a school.• During World War II, he visited Palestine but stayed to oversee Ponevezh Yeshiva from a distance. Later it re-established itself as one of the largest Litvishe in the world.• He also sought to care for many orphans and refugees during this time and traveled widely to secure financial support for his yeshiva.• He wrote Talmudic commentaries, an explanation on Passover Haggadah published after his death in 1969. Rav Nosson Tzvi Finkel: The Inspiring Life of a Dedicated RabbiRav Nosson Tzvi Finkel (12 March 1943 – 8 November 2011) was an incredible American-born Haredi Litvish rabbi and rosh yeshiva (dean) of the Mir Yeshiva in Jerusalem, Israel.Under his guidance from 1990 until his passing in 2011, the Mir Yeshiva flourished into the largest yeshiva in Israel, boasting 6,000 undergraduate students and over 1,600 married students 3. He inspired over 25,000 students throughout his lifetime.Despite his Parkinson's disease, which he suffered for 28 years, Rav Finkel continued to learn Torah for hours, give lectures, and raise funds for his yeshiva worldwide. He presented a breathtaking $500 million for the Mir Yeshiva during his tenure as rosh yeshiva. Rav Finkel was a prominent member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of Degel HaTorah and was known for his vast Torah knowledge and warm and caring demeanor towards his students. • Rabbi Shmuel Kamenetsky was born in Tytuvėnai, Lithuania, to Rabbi Yaakov Kamenetsky, the town's rabbi.•The family emigrated in 1937, and he attended Eitz Chaim Day Schools in Toronto.•He studied at Ner Israel Rabbinical College under his father's cousin, Yaakov Yitzchok Ruderman.•Kamenetsky then studied at Lakewood Yeshiva and received rabbinic ordination from Aharon Kotler.•In the mid-1950s, he and Dov Schwartzman were sent to found the Talmudical Yeshiva of Philadelphia. • Rabbi Yisrael Meir Kagan, known as the Chafetz Chaim, was born in Dzyatlava, Belarus, in 1838.• He was renowned for his teachings and attracted students from all over Europe; by 1869, his house became known as the Radin Yeshiva.• He published 21 books, most notably Chafetz Chaim (1873) - an organized and clarified sefer regarding the laws of Lashon Hara - and Mishnah Berurah (printed between 1894-1907), an authoritative source of Halacha.
