0:39Good evening everyone. It is Sunday, October 10 And I just wanted to give a summary of the previous podcast which contained 34 minutes of weather. I'm going to try to get this done in five minutes 15 minutes max. On the weather map but the most significant thing that's taking place right now is a low pressure system that has dived from the northwest or actually this low pressure system was part of a piece of energy that went into reach to the Rockies split into two. One of them became a strong storm system that moved up into North Dakota and brought a severe weather outbreak yesterday. It's possible that that system is bringing some severe weather into northeast Minnesota and parts of Wisconsin this evening, but a more significant storm system, which also came out of this piece of Energy has moved into the southern Colorado area or into Kansas, the southeast part of this storm system is where we have the severe weather outbreak, Oklahoma, it really is the center of all of this severe weather there's a Tornado Watch in effect until 10 o'clock pm for much of Oklahoma and north Texas, North Central Texas, also some parts of Southeast West southeast Kansas and southwest Missouri and Western Oregon's also have a very good chance of seeing severe weather. The highest chance for tornadoes are going to be this evening and then the damaging the most damaging part of these storms is going to roll onto, it's gonna change over to damaging wind as we go through the night, there's a good chance that these thunderstorms which are hitting this right now are going to develop into a squall line later on tonight bringing damaging winds up to 80 miles per hour, possibly even 90 miles per hour in some locations Flash Flood Watch has also an effect for parts of Oklahoma where very heavy downpours is expected and that could cause flash flooding on the other hand, only one to two inches of rain of widespread rain is expected over there but, which is heavy rain but the flash flooding will likely be a result of rainfall accumulations that are higher than one to two inches, large hail to the size of baseballs is also a possibility with some of this severe weather one of the highest dangers with this situation right now is the fact that it's going to be occurring in the night, and that's always more dangerous situation and when these tornadoes occurred during the day the safest place to be would be in a basement away from windows that would be the safest place to sleep. If you are in one of those areas. This low pressure system then move on to the Great Lakes, tomorrow and severe, and the Ohio Valley that's going to be affected by the severe weather tomorrow, chances for severe weather aren't just a possibility there's also a possibility for tornadoes even in the Chicago area, but much less of a possibility than what has been happening in Oklahoma. But there is one thing, extra that's going to be happening in Chicago that is the storms are going to be moving really quickly 50 to 60 miles per hour, which means once a tornado warning is issued if it is issued, there will not be much time to prepare for the most likely damage severe threat in the Chicago area is going to be damaging wind, strong winds just above the surface, 50 to 60 miles per hour is what's going to be pushing these storms, but thunderstorms tend to bring winds down to the surface. So those are the types of winds that might be coming down to the surface whenever you have strong winds, there's always a chance for large deal as well. So there is a possible chance for severe weather for places like St. Louis, Missouri Chicago Illinois Detroit, Michigan, and Cedar Rapids, Michigan as well. And I am not sure about Indiana. And we are in the midst of living through an unprecedented event for the month of October for us who come from the Midwest. We're actually going to this event is going to intensify as the week goes on. We have not dropped below 60 degrees yet this month of October, it's already October 10. Temperatures have failed to fall below 60. Now, why have they failed to fall below 60. So someone might want to say that. You know why? Because the daytime highs were around 80. Well, you know, if the daytime highs were around 80, then we would be talking about another unprecedented event for temperatures to be 80 degrees for the first 10 days of October. Certainly the temperatures were 80 degrees i We could hear why The overnight lows did not drop below 60. But when you look back last week, and you see those daytime highs are 68 degrees, 67 degrees, 69 degrees. And then you look at the overnight lows, 65 degrees, different 60 This degrees and 60 degrees, you have to wonder what is going on here, we have the nights are 13 hours long, temperatures start dropping even before skier even before sunset, the temperature start dropping, so we have 15 hours of dropping temperatures. So 15 hours of dropping temperatures we had one day the high was 68. The low was 65. But that was so okay, that doesn't. Let's say the high was 68. And that night, let's say it was 63. Let's just say I think it might have even been less than five degrees, you have five degrees within 15 hours. So we're talking aboutUnknown 2:16dropping one degree every three hours. So a third of the degree in our What can possibly be causing that a third of the degree in our? Well, the answer is the dew points, the dew points, the humidity, the humidity is tremendous insulation here in the city and the temperatures are just not dropping, they can't drop below the dew point and the humidity stays. Now why is there so much humidity and why so much consistency. I don't even know if we see such consistency in July. And we do we do see consistency in July. But even in July, we do get these Canadian air masses every now and then we're dew points dropped into the 50s. In fact, at the very end of July this year, dew points dropped into the 40s. But we've seen such consistency like this is just 10 days temperatures have not dropped below 60 Dew points have remained above 60 degrees.Unknown 3:10And the question again is why? So I've read in an article something very interesting. It's because the sun is so weak, the wetness of the ground is just not evaporating and significant pace and therefore the dew points remain high. 0:02Good morning everyone. It is August and then it's in the late morning and today is finally here an exciting day because it is extremely humid outside and the dew points are really really high. This is a rarity here in the Chicago area. Right now the state of Illinois is the most human state in the country and we're seeing dew point, the maximum dew point in the past 12 hours was a sauna like 84 degrees. It's reporting on one website. Dark Sky says that parts of the Chicago area currently have a dew point of 81 degrees. The National Weather Service weather app says the dew point 78 degrees. Other sources say that the dew point the official dew point in Chicago 76 degrees. Midway according to one side says the dew point 74 degrees. So we certainly been a hard time trying to figure out what the dew point is here in the Chicago area. But either way, probably the strongest indicator that we actually do have dew points currently in the Upper 70s and even low 80s low 80s. Imagine that low at dew point is from the National Weather Service Forecast discussion, where it says the dew points today will remain in the Upper 70s and low 80s remain meaning they have gone up into the upper 70s and low 80s accuweather.com is reporting maximum dew points to be occurring late this afternoon at 79 degrees, and they have their models a little bit off for right now though what do they say the dew point at noon will be 71 degrees, but it's already in the Upper 70s. But either way, perhaps there are places in Chicago where the dew point is only in the low 70s. And perhaps each weather station is reporting a different viewpoints. But by late afternoon dew points will be in the upper 70s. And the National Weather Service has pointed out that there will even be some locations with dew points in the low 80s. This is as high as it can possibly get. The record for Chicago has a dew point of 83 degrees. That's the highest dew point ever recorded in Chicago. So we are approaching record territory here. And what's amazing about this is that it's not just we're approaching record territory, but it also the highest dewpoints in the country are occurring right over the Chicago area. Now South Bend Indiana also is having very high dew points a little bit less than the Chicago area. dew points between 75 and 76 degrees. dew points will likely go a little bit higher as the day progresses. He didn't afternoon he didn't disease top out between 95 and 105. For South Bend, Indiana. He didn't he's expected to be around 110 area wide in the Chicago area. Heat advisories in effect for Chicago possibly for South Bend as well until 7pm this evening. Now the one variable that is might mess up this heat is if thunderstorms develop this afternoon. As of now the thunderstorms are expected to hold off until this evening. Some of those storms could be severe, especially with damaging wind 55 to 65 mile per hour wind gusts with an AccuWeather max of 80 miles per hour. There also could be an isolated tornado and large hail. But the main thing will be the damaging winds with these storms. And it's unbelievable the amount of humidity obviously the amount of humidity these storms are dealing with is the highest in the world. This is as intense as it gets really probably on par with the monsoon in India. Just about you know for a week the dew points for between 80 and 81 degrees in New Delhi, India. We're seeing two points here that are places currently dew points are in the low 80s. And parts of Illinois as we speak. And the maximum dew point I don't know if this is official or unofficial was 84 degrees within the past 12 hours here in Illinois. dew points elsewhere in the country it is very difficult to find an 80 degree dew point unless you go down into Galveston, Texas or Corpus Christi, Texas, otherwise plenty of Upper 70s. Lots of Upper 70s. For dew points. I wanted to just discuss, why is it so rare to have at Dewey dewpoints in this country? Why? Why do we not experience the yet the other countries on by the Red Sea in the Persian Gulf, they do experience 80 degree dew points well into the 80s. And we don't what's wrong over here? We have the Gulf of Mexico. So what exactly is wrong, the Gulf of Mexico is really, really warm waters. So first, I, maybe I should explain what dew point is, like I did in the previous podcasts, a couple other podcasts. vouchsafed very quickly, the dew point is the most accurate way to measure humidity in the air, it's the temperature at which the environment would become saturated. So again, we have a large jar holds more water than a small jar, heat expands. So the warmer it is, the larger the air molecules are, the more water vapor it could hold. Relative humidity is how much water vapor is the air holding compared to what it could hold. So what you end up with is 90 degrees with a relative humidity of 50%. Relative humidity of 50% mix is a usually the dew points about 20 degrees lower than the temperature. It's that's not 100%. exactly correct. It depends on what the temperature is. But if you have an air temperature of 90 degrees, relative humidity, 50%, that's holding as much water vapor at 70 degrees could hold. So the relative humidity of 100%. When the temperature 70 would produce a relative humidity of 50% when the temperature is 90. And a lot of times by the way, and 90 degree heat in the afternoon, drops to 70 at night. So it's not uncommon to see the relative humidity close to 100% in the morning, and then drop the 50% in the afternoon. It's not that the humidity is dropping the humidity staying the same. The only differences is the relative humidity relative humidity is important. More so I think it's more important for weather forecasters. And dealing with the environment how much the what are the chances that the precipitation will be evaporating before it touches the ground. And it's more important for forecasters, it doesn't play To my knowledge, it does not play a significant role. And for our purposes, in terms of how the air feels, the only time it would play a significant role is when we're dealing with borderline humidity. So dew points of 60 or higher are considered humid, dew points of 70, or higher or 72 or higher, are considered oppressive, sometimes maybe even Upper 60s. So when dew points are in the 70s, it's going to feel humid, no matter what, when dew points are in the 60s, it's gonna feel humid. But when temperatures get really hot, it's not gonna feel humid, it's gonna feel more dry, there still will be a heat index of a degree or two, but it's gonna feel a little bit more dry, the relative humidity is so low in the morning, it's gonna feel humid. And when dew points are in the 60s, I think you do need a higher relative humidity in order for it to feel for it to have that moist feeling. And I think if if it's in the Upper 50s with the relative humidity of 100%, I think it's also going to have that moist feeling as well. So I think that's where the relative humidity plays a role and comfort level in when dew points are in the 60s, and also in the winter in terms of that damp feeling. But again, we go back to our question is why are dew points higher than 80 so rare here in this country. Now one thing you have to realize is that the temperature always has to be higher than the dew point. The newest thing, which we're going to be speaking about later on in this podcast is that the plume of dust which has developed and develops every year above Africa, and pushes over into the Atlantic Ocean is currently headed into the South Florida area. Dust does inhibit thunderstorm development along with shower development. And as a result, the temperatures might actually start to get hotter in the Florida area, and eventually this dust may actually make it further into the United States if what happens last year, what happened last year happens this year. But more importantly, this dust may prevent some of those hurricanes from forming. Once the dust starts, it pretty much sticks around here until mid August. So this gives us a chance for heatwave development domes of heat to develop without any interruption whatsoever. Once they get started. Now, we do have some tropical storm potential over the next week. So let's give it another week or so before solid dome of heat will finally get set up here in the United States in the Midwest, the Great Lakes area even and parts of the East Coast. I do think we're going to be seeing a hot summer this year. And whatever we saw last week and the end of the week before is an indicator of what we're in for this summer unless hurricanes interfere but now that we have this dust coming in from the Sahara Desert, the chances are we will be I'm not sure what type of effect that's going to have on the hurricane season. But it could be that we're going to phase out of the hurricanes until mid August. And at least after next week, and if that should happen we're going to see a solid dome of heat especially considering the fact that the Upper Midwest has drought conditions going on. So the sun is very efficient heating things up. Today temperatures have gone into the hundreds in Kansas Nebraska and Denver Colorado. Highs in the low hundreds North Dakota highs in the South Dakota highs in the hundreds. Phoenix Arizona expecting a high of 116 degrees today. 118 degrees today. For tomorrow. Las Vegas, Nevada rarely gets 215 degrees Believe it or not, but 115 I think it only hit 115 27 times in the past. However many years since record keeping began. But today 115 degrees is expected temperatures reaching even hotter for tomorrow. 116. Over there Palm Springs California seems like it's one of the hottest cities 116 Today 119 degrees for tomorrow. Death Valley California going up to 126 degrees today. It's very serious heat it's there for an extended stay off in the desert southwest. Very serious stuff. Temperatures are in the 100 and teens over a large area. Temperatures are in the hundreds as well over a large area, including much of Oklahoma expecting highs in the hundreds much of Kansas and places further north than that as well.
