Record Heat From Mexico To New England

There are several important topics discussed in this episode including a short segment on the cicadas, an alternative effective way to know when a tornado will hit your area, a new color coded system that will be used this Summer by the National Weather Service and mentions the upper limit of heat that the human body could endure. In this episode we discuss an intense but short lived 3 day heatwave over South Texas, Mexico and to a lesser extent other parts of the Gulf Coast. This heatwave is from Tuesday - Thursday May 6th - May 8th 2024. In this episode we read a little from The "Washington Post" which discussed record warmth from Mexico to Southern New England. This episode also discusses an updated system that the National Weather Service will be using to publicize heat dangers. This episode discusses some of the heat indices and very dangerous Wet Bulb Globe temperatures that are occuring in Southeastern Texas. This episode discusses the way to measure wet bulb temperature which is slightly different from wet bulb globe temperature. This episode discusses Wet-bulb-globe temperature which is often referred to as “Wet-bulb” temperature. In cold weather the term Wet-bulb temperature accurately refers to Wet-bulb temperature. In hot weather it usually refers to Wet-bulb-globe temperature. Wet bulb temperature, black globe temperature and dry bulb temperature are all necessary in order to figure out the Wet-bulb-globe temperature. There are other variables needed as well such as sun angle, solar radiation (cloud cover) and wind speed. This episode discusses an intense early season heatwave that is expected to expand and maximize from Mexico to Texas over the next couple days. This will expand further along much of the Gulf Coast reaching a peak on May 9th for most locations. There will be a small window of time when the heat will become life threatening for athletes in some locations. WBGT are considered unbearable at 35°C/95°F. Recent studies show that it's close to unbearable at 86° 87°F / 30°C. This episode discusses the isolated spots of 90°F/32°C WBGT in Texas. We discuss 2 cities regarding this. We discuss how this will be occurring in these 2 cities around 1pm Wednesday and 1pm Thursday May 9th 2024. The NWS has a peak WBGT occuring in parts of South Texas on Wednesday at 93°F/34°C. This heat is of a magnitude that might even be greater than last Summer. The rest of the episode discusses the heatwave including the humidity. At this point, the peak indices will be slightly lower with this event than last Summer's due to the slightly lower dew points. This heat is also not nearly as widespread as it was last Summer. However, last summer's heat didn't get started until mid-June. We discuss areas of extreme temperatures of 45°C+/113°F+ in places that have minimal humidity. We discuss the placement of the dry-line in relation to Brownsville Texas. We discuss the Wet-bulb temperatures Forecasted by the European model (in this context it does not mean WBGT only WBT). We discuss the ending of this heat within the United States. We make brief mention of the current severe weather outbreak including nighttime tornadoes going on in the Plains. This episode focuses on one of the most fascinating places in the world for a heart and humidity enthusiast. As humid as the Gulf Of Mexico is (along with its surrounding states) it's power doesn't hold a candlestick to the Persian Gulf. This episode discusses some of the water temperatures that occur in the Persian Gulf. We discuss the impact this had on the historical floods that took place in parts of Iran, Onan and the United Arab Emirates. The main focus is the United Arab Emirates because it's easier to find weather information about the UAE and they also have a fascinating cloud seeding program. We discuss cloud seeding and the different approaches UAE uses vs. Israel. It should be noted that the highest widespread totals of rain may have occurred in Iran with several cities of 10+ inches. Colorado Summer Snowstorm of 2020 (4 minutes)

A strong upper level low brought an end to record heat, and provided Denver its second earliest measurable snowfall on record. Numerous heat records were set leading up to the snowfall, and several new snowfall and cold records were also broken in this abrupt bout with winter.On September 5, 2020, Denver set its all time record high for September, reaching 101 degrees during the afternoon. This was also the latest date a 100 degree reading has ever been observed in Denver. Another daily record high was then tied on September 6 when Denver hit 97 degrees. September 7th was the last day of heat across the eastern plains of Colorado, when Denver's high temperature reached 93. That tied us for the record for the number of 90 degree days for a year (73), and was also the warmest temperature ever recorded before a day of measurable snowfall.By the evening of September 7th, a series of cold fronts progressed southward from Wyoming into Colorado, dropping the temperature down to the low 30s by early Tuesday morning. Snow developed across the Front Range and foothills overnight, while a mix of rain and snow developed along the I-25 metro corridor. A few locations picked up light snow accumulations in the morning. Accumulating snow was mostly confined to the higher elevations much of the day Tuesday, before spreading across the plains during the late afternoon and evening. Snow spread across the far eastern plains overnight, and tapered off by Wednesday morning. Total snowfall accumulations were 1 to 3 inches across much of the eastern plains, 3 to 6 inches for cities along the mountains (including Boulder and the western portions of Fort Collins), and 4 to 10 inches for the mountains and foothills of the Front Range. A total of 5.6 inches of snow was measured at the NWS Boulder office, while Denver officially measured a total of 1.0 inches. This episode discusses the snow totals that occured along and east of the Colorado mountain range in the March 13 - 15 2024 snow storm. There is a focus on the larger metropolitan city of Denver. Find out which cities received 5 feet of snow and if AccuWeather's forecasted snowfall max was accurate. As usual, much of the information from this episode comes from the National Weather Service. Usually it's directly from their website but in this case it comes from the newspaper that tends to gather much information from the National Weather Service, the Washington Post. You will learn why despite seeing an enormous snow total of 2 feet in Denver, this storm will likely be quickly forgotten. For more information regarding the development of this storm listen to the previous episode that discussed the forecasting of this storm. That episode includes the place it originated from, the various ingredients that needed to come together to produce such a storm. Topics such as upsloping, moisture feed along with what makes this storm really unique is all discussed. Learn about how the uniqueness of this storm created difficulty in forecasting the weather for places on the west side of the mountain range. It should be pointed out that although this episode discusses the general snow totals of this storm as reported on March 15th, there was some snow that fell afterwards for many of these cities but that snow was light.
