Hashem Saves In The Blink Of An Eye

We often witness Hashem's hand in the extraordinary and unexpected. We are reminded of the milestones that G-d has performed and continues to perform for us daily. The splitting of the Red Sea is one such momentous event - when it would seem impossible to escape from an enemy advancing upon them, G-d parted the sea so they could march through safely on dry land. The Torah speaks of how miraculous salvation happens even quicker than the blink of an eye (Shmot 14:30). It was "in a split second," as Rashi puts it, that Hashem saved Am Yisrael from specific danger. This highlights two important points about our relationship with G-d. First, Hashem always provides us with salvation and support when needed. And second, Hashem's power is dynamic and instantaneous - our prayers are answered in a split second by an omnipotent force. We must never forget the miracles that G-d has done for us in our lives, those of generations past and those yet to come. We can take comfort in knowing that no matter what challenges or obstacles arise on our journey through life, Hashem will be there at every step to lend us aid and guidance. The Torah's View on Competition (Pesach Takeaway)

Competition gives us a unique perspective on the world, gives us a sense of accomplishment, and can be incredibly rewarding. The Torah teaches us that completion is essential and should not be taken lightly. We must strive to improve ourselves to reach our full potential while never using competition as an excuse to bring another person down. The ancient Jewish sages taught that success comes from hard work and dedication rather than taking shortcuts or belittling others. Completing tasks that are meaningful to us will result in growth and development both mentally and spiritually. Achieving something reminds us of our capabilities, opening new possibilities for additional accomplishments. In addition to providing a sense of accomplishment, completing tasks can also create a connection between ourselves and God. By actively striving to achieve our goals, we demonstrate that we believe in the greatness of something greater than ourselves. The Torah says, “You shall serve the Lord your God with all your heart and soul” (Deuteronomy 10:12). This verse emphasizes the importance of hard work and dedication to show reverence for something bigger than us. Jews still mark the days between Passover and Shavuot in a "Counting of the Omer." The period of 49 days counted is known as the "Omer period" or "the Omer." Each day, Jews recite a special blessing in the synagogue or at home. During this counting period, there are various customs that many Jewish communities observe, such as refraining from haircuts, getting married, and even listening to music. According to Maharal, there is a symbolic contrast between the omer offering (offered on Passover) and the Shavuos sacrifice provided upon the conclusion of the omer. It was the night of Pesach, and the family had gathered together for their Seder. The house was filled with laughter and conversations as aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends arrived to celebrate. As they took their places at the table, they began to sing songs of gratitude and praise while they feasted on matzo ball soup, brisket, and kugel. The youngest grandchild proudly read out the four Hebrew questions enthusiastically. Everyone smiled, marveling at his recitation. The youngest then proceeded to open up the Haggadah as all eyes fixed upon him. He turned the pages slowly and read each statement aloud that represented a part of the great Exodus story. Then, family members around the table shared stories of their ancestors before them and how those individuals had gone through difficult times in life. It was a fun-filled night enjoyed by all involved as every family member retired contentedly, knowing that Pesach's timeless message had been passed down for generations. Passover, or Pesach in Hebrew, is a Jewish holiday commemorating the Israelites' liberation from slavery in ancient Egypt. It is celebrated for seven days, with the first and last days being special holidays. On the first night of Passover, Jews gather around the table to celebrate freedom and tell the story of their ancestors' exodus from Egypt. The first night of Pesach is an integral part of the holiday. During this time, families come together to share a meal known as a Seder. This meal includes traditional foods such as matzah (unleavened bread), charoset (a sweet mixture of apples and nuts), and maror (bitter herbs). As they eat, family members take turns reading from a book called the Haggadah which tells the story of how God freed the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. At each stage of the Seder, special rituals are performed to remind us of our ancestors' journey out of Egypt. For example, during karpas (the vegetable course), we dip parsley into salt water to symbolize tears shed by those enslaved in Egypt. The night of Pesach is about remembering our past and looking forward to our future. We use this time to reflect on what it means to be free and how we can work towards achieving freedom today. We also make sure that everyone at our table feels included by inviting guests so they can learn more about our culture and history. Attending a funeral can be an emotionally difficult experience, but it is essential to honor the deceased and begin the mourning process. According to Jewish tradition, witnessing the day of death is necessary as part of this process. The purpose of attending a funeral is not only to provide comfort and solace for grieving but also to provide an opportunity for reflection on our own mortality and spiritual growth. The Talmud (Moed Katan 27a) teaches that there should be no separation between people in life or death. We must come together at a time of sadness in solidarity with our fellow Jews and reflect on how we can use this moment to grow spiritually. In addition, gathering together during a person's funeral is a way to provide honor and respect for the deceased as they are laid to rest. Attending funerals also reminds us of our mortality, encouraging us to make the most of every moment on earth. As King Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 7:2, "It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting; For that is the end of all mankind." Purim and it's Unique Mitzvah of Intoxication

The Jewish holiday of Purim is among the most joyous holidays on the Jewish calendar. It is a time to celebrate and recognize the miraculous victory of the Jews over their enemies in ancient Persia, as told in the Purim story in the book of Esther within the Torah. One key aspect of celebrating this holiday is drinking. Alcohol consumption is traditionally considered an essential part of many religious festivals, including Purim. The Talmud states it is a mitzvah (commandment) to get so intoxicated on Purim night that one cannot tell 'cursed be Haman' from 'blessed be Mordechai.' This suggests that drinking alcohol should not be considered immoral or forbidden on this holy day. In addition, drinking alcohol is seen as a way of remembering the ancient miracle and expressing joy in the present day. So, raising a glass or two on Purim night is customary to celebrate this memorable holiday! The Purim story reminds us that everything, even events beyond our control, ultimately happens with Hashem's will. As we learn from the Vilna Gaon, it was no coincidence that Achashverosh and his kingdom uprooted themselves to settle in Shushan - the same small town where a pious Jew named Mordechai lived. This was part of Hashem's plan to save the Jewish people from Haman's genocidal plot. This reminder is especially poignant as we approach Purim.
