In this episode of the Prayer Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe explores the mystical and powerful Ana Bekoach prayer, attributed to the Tanaic sage Rabbi Nechunya ben HaKanah, which is recited at the end of the morning offerings and before Shabbos to signify a spiritual transition from the physical world of Asiyah (doing) to the higher realm of Yetzirah (creation). Comprising seven lines with six words each, totaling 42 words, the prayer reflects the 42-letter name of Hashem used in creation, with each line corresponding to a divine attribute, a day of creation, and the menorah’s branches, and its acronyms forming sacred names that are not pronounced to maintain their sanctity. Rabbi Wolbe explains its role as a plea for redemption, asking Hashem to release the Jewish people from limitations and protect them from adversities like anti-Semitism, as exemplified by recent tragedies in Jerusalem and Gaza. Drawing from the Arizal and Talmud (Kiddushin 71a), he highlights the prayer’s deep mystical significance, its connection to the Shema, and its ability to open channels of divine blessing (shefa), emphasizing the need for humility and purity when engaging with it. Rabbi Wolbe encourages daily recitation to renew oneself, connect to Hashem’s kingship, and emanate godliness, concluding with a blessing that all prayers be accepted. In this episode of the Jewish Inspiration Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe explores the origins and significance of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, noting it commemorates the sixth day of creation when Adam and Eve were formed, making it a two-day holiday worldwide. He describes it as a day of divine judgment for all humanity, drawing from the Mishnah in Tractate Rosh Hashanah, which outlines four annual judgment periods: Pesach for grains, Shavuot for fruits, Rosh Hashanah for human deeds (determining life or death), and Sukkot for water. Rabbi Wolbe emphasizes its dual nature as both solemn judgment and joyful celebration, where God desires to bestow goodness, urging listeners to prepare by realigning with divine will and crowning God as king.Rabbi Wolbe delves into the phrase "Kivnei Maron" from Psalms, interpreting it through Talmudic lenses: judging speech for truthfulness, individual talents and potential (illustrated by the Netziv’s story), and one’s influence on others. He stresses personal accountability for fulfilling God-given abilities, avoiding self-limitation, and positively impacting the community to merit favorable judgment. Practical advice includes believing in oneself and children, volunteering to become indispensable, and genuinely desiring spiritual growth, as all blessings for the year are decreed on Rosh Hashanah, linking to the subsequent days of repentance and Sukkot.Recorded at TORCH Centre in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on September 7, 2025, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on August 9, 2025 Listen, Subscribe & Share: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jewish-inspiration-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1476610783Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4r0KfjMzmCNQbiNaZBCSU7) to stay inspired! Share your questions at [email protected] or visit torchweb.org for more Torah content.   About the Host:Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe, Director of TORCH in Houston, brings decades of Torah scholarship to guide listeners in applying Jewish wisdom to daily life.  To directly send your questions, comments, and feedback, please email: [email protected] Support Our Mission:Our Mission is Connecting Jews & Judaism. In the 13th episode of the Ask Away series on the Everyday Judaism Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe responds to a variety of student questions, exploring the meaning and origin of Amen as an affirmation of truth derived from El Melech Ne’eman, clarifying that the person reciting a blessing does not say Amen but others should to join in the blessing’s merit. He addresses whether saying Amen at a communal Motzi is appropriate, discusses the importance of integrity in light of Bernie Madoff’s actions, and explains how to overcome negative traits like cruelty or anger through small, consistent steps toward God-like qualities, as taught in Mussar. Rabbi Wolbe also emphasizes the priority of supporting Torah study through non-profits as a form of charity, the value of anonymous giving, and the spiritual significance of the Mishnah recitation after Torah study with a minyan, concluding with a call to verify rabbinic teachings with sources and a blessing for a meaningful week.In this episode of Ask Away we address these questions and topics:Here are the questions asked by the students in the provided transcript of the Ask Away series on the Everyday Judaism Podcast:Ed: What is the origin of Amen, and if it is said after a blessing, does the person who gives/recites the blessing say Amen?Jimmy: When we say the HaMotzi at our dinner table or any of our meals and we all say Amen, are we incorrect?Ed: You said that Jews are not cruel, and if they are cruel, you got to inspect their lineage. Did anybody ever inspect Bernie Madoff's lineage?Anna: If you find yourself with a trait of cruelty, is there no workaround? You just do teshuvah and change your ways, or is there another approach, like becoming a butcher or surgeon for someone who favors bloodletting?Anna: Are non-profits considered poor in the context of the obligation to help the poor?Anna: If someone doesn't ask for charity, but you give to them anyway (e.g., a smile, food, or beverage), is that the same mitzvah as charity, or is it a different mitzvah?Jimmy: What is the good side of the trait of anger? (Combined with an online listener’s question about how to be more patient.)Carlos: If we talk about Midrash and Gemara in classes, why doesn't the Rabbi end his classes with Rabbi Chananya ben Akashya Omer? And much more ... Ever felt the transformative power of a sincere apology? Our exploration into the Talmud (Yoma 86A) unveils the profound impact of repentance and the varying motivations behind it. We delve into the raw honesty of repentance fueled by love, fear, and pain, revealing how each plays a different role in our relationship with God. In this episode of the Prayer Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe explores the Ketores (incense offering), the final and most powerful part of the morning offerings discussed in the context of Parshas Ki Seitzei, read during the month of Elul. He explains that the Ketores, detailed on pages 34–39 of the Wasserman Siddur, is spiritually significant, as the Zohar teaches it nullifies negative forces in the world through its aroma. Rabbi Wolbe emphasizes its potency, noting that it surpasses even the Shema and Amida in some aspects, often recited with a minyan to maximize its impact. He delves into the symbolism of numbers, highlighting that 10 represents holiness (e.g., Ten Commandments, ten verses in Rosh Hashanah prayers), while 11 and 9 signify evil forces. The Ketores uses 11 spices to counter these forces, with specific weights (e.g., 70, 16, 12, 9 mane) to disrupt their sequence and overpower evil, as seen when Aaron used incense to stop Korach’s rebellion. Rabbi Wolbe connects the 11 amot depth of Noah’s Ark and the 11 verses in V’Yiten Lecha to this protective power. He discusses the inclusion of chelbenah (galbanum), a foul-smelling spice, to symbolize incorporating the less righteous, as their negative traits can be transformed in a positive environment, like a yeshiva, mirroring the Yom Kippur prayer’s inclusion of all Jews (Kol Nidre). The Ketores must include all 11 spices, or it incurs severe consequences, underscoring the need for precision in recitation, as if offering it in the Temple.Rabbi Wolbe explains the use of salt as a preservative, dipped three times with challah to chase away evil, and notes the exclusion of honey, despite its transformative power, due to Torah prohibition and cost considerations. He highlights the spiritual ascent of the Ketores’s aroma, transforming physical elements into a divine connection, and cites the Shulchan HaKadosh to emphasize feeling the teshuvah of the offerings over mere understanding. Reciting Ketores protects individuals, families, and the Jewish nation. Rabbi Wolbe concludes by connecting the shofar’s sound in Elul to sending prayers to God, urging listeners to reflect on their past year and seek teshuvah to clear spiritual obstacles, wishing all a meaningful week. As the calendar moves us closer to Rosh Hashanah, have you ever taken a moment to reflect on the spiritual significance of this time? Does the concept of Gehenom as a soul-cleansing process, akin to a power wash, intrigue you? Our latest episode takes you on a profound journey where we unravel the mysteries of spirituality and delve into the significance of the High Holidays. Inspired by the midrash of Moses' ascent into the heavens, we reflect on the praises of angels in each firmament and what that tells us about the power of true repentance. We ponder over the concept of Teshuvah, comparing God's forgiveness to the erasing power of a pencil. As we draw parallels between the High Holidays and accountability, we question if maybe our current Bar Mitzvah celebrations are missing their true essence. As we prepare for Rosh Hashanah, we discuss the importance of writing down our prayers and the profound act of 'blowing the shofar'. As the countdown begins, we shed light on the challenges faced by American Jews, the Torah Observant Community, and the crucial need for forgiveness. This episode is an invitation to embark on a spiritual journey, to reflect and introspect, and to prepare collectively for the High Holidays. This episode (#52) of the Jewish Inspiration Podcast by Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe is dedicated in Honor of Alan & Haley Finkelman!****To listen to other podcasts by Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe: https://linktr.ee/ariwolJewish Inspiration Podcast: https://inspiration.transistor.fm/episodesParsha Review Podcast: https://parsha.transistor.fm/episodesLiving Jewishly Podcast: https://jewishly.transistor.fm/episodesThinking Talmudist Podcast: https://talmud.transistor.fm/episodesUnboxing Judaism Podcast: https://unboxing.transistor.fm/episodesRabbi Aryeh Wolbe Podcast Collection: https://collection.transistor.fm/episodesPlease send your questions, comments and even your stories to [email protected] visit www.torchweb.org to see a full listing of our Jewish outreach and educational resources available in the Greater Houston area and please consider sponsoring a podcast by making a donation to help support our global outreach at https://www.torchweb.org/donate. Thank you!For a full listing of podcasts available by TORCH at https://www.TORCHpodcasts.comRecorded in the TORCH Centre - Studio B to a live audience on October 2020, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on September 14, 2021Re-broadcast on August 29, 2023★ Support this podcast ★ ★ Support this podcast ★

In this episode of the Parsha Review Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe explores Parshas Ki Seitzei, the sixth portion in the Book of Deuteronomy, read during the month of Elul, a time of introspection before Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Rabbi Wolbe begins with Deuteronomy 21:10, which describes going out to war against enemies, interpreting the true battle as the internal struggle against the Yetzer Hara (evil inclination). He emphasizes that this parsha, always read in Elul, reflects the spiritual war against personal temptations, with Hashem promising victory to those who make the effort. Referencing Deuteronomy 28:47, Rabbi Wolbe notes that failing to serve Hashem with joy amidst abundance leads to spiritual downfall, a challenge as relevant today as in past generations. He contrasts two types of Teshuva (repentance): Teshuva me’yirah (out of fear), which turns sins into mistakes, and Teshuva me’ahavah (out of love), which transforms sins into mitzvot, as taught in the Talmud (Yoma 86). Quoting the Orchos Tzaddikim and Talmud Yoma, he shares a teaching about Moshe ascending the seven firmaments, where angels praise progressively greater divine gifts—culminating in Teshuva, which reaches God’s throne of glory, as per Hosea 14:2. Rabbi Wolbe illustrates this with a story of an elderly man whose past sins, through Teshuva me’ahavah, became the source of his righteousness. He shares a personal anecdote about apologizing to another rabbi, turning a moment of friction into a strengthened friendship, showing how challenges can elevate relationships when approached with love. Rabbi Wolbe urges listeners to face their personal battles—whether work, health, loneliness, or parenting—with heartfelt teshuvah, drawing inspiration from children’s pure prayers, and to trust in Hashem’s promise of success. He concludes with a blessing for a Shabbos filled with spiritual victory and connection to Hashem. In this episode of the Parsha Review Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe explores Parshas Shoftim, the fifth portion in the Book of Deuteronomy, which outlines the establishment of a just society through judges, officers, and the pursuit of righteousness. Rabbi Wolbe begins with Deuteronomy 16:18-20, emphasizing the command to appoint judges and officers at all gates to ensure fair judgment, and the iconic verse “Tzedek, tzedek tirdof” (“Justice, justice you shall pursue”), highlighting the need for integrity free from bribery, which can corrupt even the wise and just. He connects the prohibition against planting a tree for idol worship near God’s altar (Deuteronomy 16:21) to the sin of arrogance, which God despises most, as it elevates oneself above others and distorts one’s role as a servant in God’s world. Rabbi Wolbe explains that a king must carry a Torah scroll to remain humble, a reminder for the Jewish people as the chosen nation to uphold higher standards of honesty and responsibility, not arrogance. He shares a story about Rabbi Moshe Feinstein, who, for 14 years, returned Social Security checks sent erroneously due to a mistaken birth date, exemplifying the integrity expected of God’s chosen people. Another story recounts a Russian couple who, unable to access a mikvah, abstained from intimacy for years to adhere to Torah laws, demonstrating profound commitment.Rabbi Wolbe urges listeners to appoint “judges and officers” in their personal lives by seeking mentors or friends to provide honest feedback, as illustrated by a story of a friend, Dan Coleman, who initially resented a rabbi’s interrogation but later valued it as preparation for divine judgment. He emphasizes the importance of self-reflection—looking in the mirror to confront one’s flaws—and seeking external perspectives to overcome personal blind spots, especially during Elul’s introspective period. Rabbi Wolbe concludes by encouraging listeners to embrace vulnerability, accept constructive criticism, and pursue personal growth to align with divine justice, wishing all a meaningful Shabbos. In this episode of the Parsha Review Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe delves into Parshas Re’eh, the fourth portion in the Book of Deuteronomy, emphasizing its profound inspiration and guidance for living as God’s chosen people. Focusing on Deuteronomy 13:5, Rabbi Wolbe highlights the verse’s commands to follow Hashem, fear Him, observe His commandments, listen to His voice, serve Him, and cling to Him. Quoting Rashi, he explains that “clinging to Hashem” means emulating His ways through acts of loving-kindness, such as visiting the sick (Bikur Cholim), burying the deceased, and comforting mourners, as God did for Abraham and Moses. Rabbi Wolbe stresses that these acts must be performed with the same heartfelt sensitivity and dignity as God’s actions, not for personal gain but out of reverence for Hashem. He shares a story of a rabbi refusing a Bikur Cholim visit, noting that true visitation involves genuine care for the individual’s needs, not just fulfilling a mitzvah.Rabbi Wolbe also recounts personal experiences benefiting from Satmar Bikur Cholim’s remarkable support in hospitals like Good Samaritan, Hackensack, and Montefiore, where they provide food, accommodations, and even emotional care, such as gifting a wig to a mother in distress. A guest, Mr. Schwartz from Satmar Bikur Cholim, joins to describe their 75-year commitment to serving 18 hospitals daily with a $3.5 million budget funded by donations, never turning anyone away regardless of background. He shares how their services, including kosher kitchens and Shabbos accommodations, ease the burdens of patients and families, and appeals for support during the Elul campaign. Rabbi Wolbe emphasizes that emulating God goes beyond actions to include the manner—loving, thoughtful, and selfless—as seen when God waited for Abraham to serve passersby, prioritizing human kindness (Ben Adam L’Chavero) before divine service (Ben Adam L’Makom). He concludes by urging listeners to perform mitzvot with divine sensitivity and to support Bikur Cholim, wishing all a Shabbos filled with meaningful connection to Hashem. Prepare to embark on a spiritual journey as we navigate through the wisdom and unique character of the Jewish month of Elul. As the dawn of a new month approaches, we're given an opportunity for introspection and transformation. Elul, a time of spiritual renewal and reconnection with God, stands as our beacon. Rabbi Wolbe will guide us towards understanding how this period presents a unique opportunity for change and reconnection with God.The month of Elul symbolizes a time of renewal, much like its mazal, the Virgin. Drawing a unique parallel, we compare this spiritual month to the amnesty period during Rudy Giuliani's tenure as the mayor of New York City. This was a time when parking violators were given a chance to start afresh. Similarly, El El is our period of spiritual amnesty, an opportunity to negotiate a fresh start with God. Tune in for an inspiring discussion that will leave you ready to embrace the coming month with hope, introspection, and a fervent desire for positive change. Let's seize this moment to awaken ourselves to our purpose in this world and make the necessary changes for a brighter future. This episode (#214) of the Jewish Inspiration Podcast by Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe is dedicated in Honor of Amy Davis on her Birthday!****To listen to other podcasts by Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe: https://linktr.ee/ariwolJewish Inspiration Podcast: https://inspiration.transistor.fm/episodesParsha Review Podcast: https://parsha.transistor.fm/episodesLiving Jewishly Podcast: https://jewishly.transistor.fm/episodesThinking Talmudist Podcast: https://talmud.transistor.fm/episodesUnboxing Judaism Podcast: https://unboxing.transistor.fm/episodesRabbi Aryeh Wolbe Podcast Collection: https://collection.transistor.fm/episodesPlease send your questions, comments and even your stories to [email protected] visit www.torchweb.org to see a full listing of our Jewish outreach and educational resources available in the Greater Houston area and please consider sponsoring a podcast by making a donation to help support our global outreach at https://www.torchweb.org/donate. Thank you!For a full listing of podcasts available by TORCH at https://www.TORCHpodcasts.comRecorded lve in the TORCH Centre - Studio B from a live audience presentation on August 17, 2023, in Houston, TexasReleased as Podcast on August 18, 2023 ★ Support this podcast ★

In this episode of the Parsha Review Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe delves into Parshas Devarim, the opening portion of the Book of Deuteronomy, which serves as a review (Mishneh Torah) of the Torah’s teachings, encapsulating Moses’ final remarks to the Jewish people. Rabbi Wolbe focuses on the first verse (Deuteronomy 1:1), which lists seemingly extraneous locations—such as the wilderness, Arava, and Dizahav—where Moses spoke to the Israelites. Quoting Rashi, he explains that these are veiled critiques of the Jewish people’s past sins, including the complaints after Egypt, the Midianite women, the spies, the manna, Korach’s rebellion, and the Golden Calf. Moses delivers these critiques gently to avoid direct confrontation, reflecting the Torah’s sensitivity to prevent embarrassment.Rabbi Wolbe ties this to the upcoming month of Elul, a time for introspection and gentle self-critique, and shares his grandfather’s advice to young husbands to avoid critiquing their wives for three years to preserve their relationship. He references a Talmudic teaching from Yevamot 65b, which mandates offering constructive criticism only when it will be accepted, and withholding it otherwise, emphasizing that effective critique requires knowing the recipient well and prioritizing their growth over personal catharsis. Rabbi Wolbe recounts a story about Rabbi Yaakov Galinsky visiting Rabbi Hetskel Levenstein during shiva, where Levenstein lamented that no one offered him introspective critique about his wife’s passing, unlike the sages who lovingly prompted Rav Huna to reflect on his loss of 400 barrels of wine (Tractate Berachot 5b). This underscores the value of constructive feedback from trusted friends. Rabbi Wolbe encourages embracing criticism as a path to self-improvement, as taught in Ethics of the Fathers (6:6), and warns against arrogance that rejects critique. He concludes by urging listeners to use gentle, loving critique to foster personal growth and prepare for Rosh Hashanah, wishing all a meaningful Shabbos. In this episode of the Parsha Review Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe explores Parshas Eikev, the third portion in the Book of Deuteronomy, rich with divine guidance for the Jewish people as they prepare to enter the Land of Israel. Rabbi Wolbe begins with Deuteronomy 7:12, which promises that observing and performing God’s commandments (mitzvot) will ensure the fulfillment of the covenant and blessings promised to the patriarchs. Rashi interprets “Eikev” (meaning “heel”) as a call to value even the seemingly minor mitzvot that one might “trample” underfoot, emphasizing that every commandment holds profound significance. Rabbi Wolbe addresses why God’s promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob focus solely on the Land of Israel, not the Torah, explaining that the Land is Hashem’s palace, and the Torah is the manual for proper conduct within it. The Torah’s observance is implied as essential for dignified living in this sacred space. He highlights Deuteronomy 8:10, recited in Birkat Hamazon (Grace After Meals), which instructs to bless Hashem for the “good land” after eating, noting the Zohar’s teaching that all global blessings flow through Israel.Rabbi Wolbe shares a story of a rabbi illustrating the biblical obligation to thank God after eating, contrasting it with the rabbinic blessing before meals, and recounts the Ger Rebbe’s insight that gratitude (Modim) outweighs requests in prayer, as seen in the Hallel prayer’s emphasis on thanking Hashem. He underscores the importance of Birkat Hamazon as a biblical commandment that ensures livelihood and success when recited with focus, per the Sefer Hachinuch. Rabbi Wolbe encourages listeners to embrace gratitude for life’s blessings—food, taste, and sustenance—recognizing them as divine gifts channeled through the Land of Israel, and to approach Birkat Hamazon as a highlight of spiritual connection, not a rushed obligation. He concludes with a blessing for a Shabbos filled with abundance and divine goodness. In this episode of the Parsha Review Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe introduces Parshas Va'eschanan, which follows Tisha B’Av, a day of mourning for the destruction of the two Temples and other tragedies in Jewish history. The episode focuses on Moses’ heartfelt pleas—515 prayers—to enter the Land of Israel, which God ultimately denies, commanding him to stop to avoid compelling divine acquiescence. Rabbi Wolbe is joined by his nephew, Avram Blackman, a seventh-grader from Toronto, who shares a profound insight on the parsha. Avram highlights Moses’ resilience, noting that despite his unanswered prayers, Moses continued to teach and strengthen the Jewish people, delivering the Shema and Torah without complaint. Avram connects this to a personal story about his rebbe, who, unable to speak due to a medical procedure, wrote personalized, heartfelt letters to each student on the last day of school, pouring his love and pride into words that carried lasting impact. Avram compares this to the Torah itself, likening it to a divine letter from Hashem, written to endure beyond spoken words, ensuring an eternal connection. He addresses the question of why Moses prayed 515 times if his request was denied, explaining that prayer is about building a relationship with God, not just achieving desires. Each prayer brought Moses closer to Hashem, just as his rebbe’s letters deepened the bond with his students. Rabbi Wolbe reinforces this, emphasizing that prayer elevates us spiritually, regardless of the outcome, and encourages listeners to see every prayer as a step toward divine closeness. The episode concludes with a blessing for fulfilled prayers and a meaningful Shabbos. In this episode of the Jewish Inspiration Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe discusses the significance of Tisha B’Av, the ninth of Av, a day of mourning in the Jewish calendar commemorating the destruction of both Temples and other tragedies. He explains that during the month of Av, joy is minimized but not eliminated, as the obligation to remain joyful persists. The episode delves into the historical context of the spies’ negative report about the Land of Israel, which led to the Jewish people’s unwarranted crying, prompting God to decree future suffering on this date. Rabbi Wolbe emphasizes that Tisha B’Av is a time to feel the pain of the Almighty and the Jewish people, reflecting on the loss of the Temple as a means to connect with God, who resides within us, not merely in a physical structure.Rabbi Wolbe connects historical tragedies to modern pain, such as the ongoing hostage crisis in Gaza and the loss of nearly 900 soldiers, urging listeners to empathize with others’ suffering and God’s “homelessness” due to the Temple’s absence. He cites the Talmud’s teaching that a generation without a rebuilt Temple is as if it destroyed it, calling for small, intentional steps to bring godliness into daily life—through mitzvahs, Torah study, or kindness—to rebuild the spiritual Temple. The episode concludes with a prayer that this Tisha B’Av be the last, hoping for a rebuilt Temple and a renewed connection to God for all Jews seeking their heritage.Recorded at TORCH Studios (C) to an online TORCHzoom.com audience on July 18, 2025, in Passaic, New Jersey.Released as Podcast on August 3, 2025 Listen, Subscribe & Share: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jewish-inspiration-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1476610783Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4r0KfjMzmCNQbiNaZBCSU7) to stay inspired! In this episode of the Parsha Review Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe explores the combined Torah portions of Matos and Mas'ei, which conclude the Book of Numbers. He highlights the turbulent history of the Jewish people in Numbers, marked by crises like the spies, Korach’s rebellion, and the Baal Peor incident, setting the stage for Deuteronomy’s review of the Torah’s teachings over Moses’ final 36 days. Rabbi Wolbe delves into Matos, which opens with the laws of oaths, emphasizing the sacredness of one’s word. He stresses that in God’s world, every spoken commitment must be fulfilled, as one’s word reflects their relationship with the divine attribute of truth (Emet). He shares stories of sages like Rabbi Siegel, who left a wedding early to honor a promise to a child, and Rabbi Nosson Tzvi Finkel, who, despite severe Parkinson’s, attended a bris to keep his word, illustrating the meticulous care sages took to uphold truth. Rabbi Wolbe recounts an anecdote about Rabbi Yaakov Kamenetsky, who chose an authentic sermon over a polished one during a rabbinic interview to avoid misleading a congregation, underscoring the importance of absolute truth. The episode also covers the tribes of Reuven, Gad, and half of Menashe opting to settle in Transjordan, contingent on aiding the conquest of Israel, highlighting communal responsibility. Rabbi Wolbe defines spirituality as infusing physical actions—like prayer or mitzvot—with divine meaning, contrasting this with mere religion, and urges listeners to live with absolute truth to emulate God. He concludes by encouraging self-evaluation to ensure one’s actions align with divine truth, preparing for the ultimate accountability before God.  In this episode of the Parsha Review Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe discusses Parshas Pinchas, focusing on the story of Pinchas’s zealous act against Zimri and Cosbi, who publicly defied God’s will by engaging in illicit relations, as described in Numbers 25. Rabbi Wolbe highlights the danger of blurring moral lines, as Zimri attempted by bringing a Moabite woman into the Jewish community, comparing it to Rebecca’s relief upon learning her conflicting womb movements were due to twins with distinct destinies, not a single confused child. He emphasizes that clarity in commitment to Torah and mitzvahs is crucial, drawing parallels to Haman’s and Amalek’s attempts to assimilate and confuse the Jewish people, urging listeners to avoid compromise in spiritual matters and to define their stance firmly on the side of holiness and light.Rabbi Wolbe encourages small, intentional steps toward observance without compromising core commitments, using examples like health goals to illustrate the importance of mental resolve even if actions lag. He stresses the need for wisdom to distinguish between holy and unholy, as recited in Havdalah and Talmudic prayers, to avoid confusion. A story of a newly observant Jew publicly affirming their identity as a religious Jew underscores how verbalizing commitment clarifies one’s path. Rabbi Wolbe concludes by urging listeners to manifest their spiritual goals through clear identification with Torah values, fostering a deeper connection to God and a purposeful Shabbos. In the final episode of the Gate of Generosity series (Day 98, Orchos Tzaddikim, page 578, Treasure for Life edition) on the Jewish Inspiration Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe emphasizes the importance of using wealth generously to acquire mitzvahs, such as purchasing a costly Esrog, as exemplified by Rabban Gamliel, to demonstrate devotion to Hashem. He compares this to investing in relationships by bringing home small gifts, like flowers, to nurture love and connection, urging listeners to prioritize mitzvahs over material luxuries like car upgrades, and to beautify mitzvahs with items like a fine menorah or Shabbos food to express love for God.Rabbi Wolbe encourages generosity beyond money, such as lending books or household items through gemachs (free loan societies), even if they return damaged, as this is part of the mitzvah. He stresses sharing Torah wisdom as the highest form of generosity, citing Rabbi Noah Weinberg’s teaching to “teach what you know,” as it guides others toward eternal life. While warning against squandering wealth on personal desires, he advocates giving to the poor with the best intentions, promising divine rewards unseen by any eye, concluding the Gate of Generosity with a call to support Torch’s global Torah outreach.Recorded at TORCH Centre in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on March 10, 2025, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on July 18, 2025 This series on Orchos Tzadikim/Ways of the Righteous is produced in partnership with Hachzek.Join the revolution of daily Mussar study at hachzek.com.We are using the Treasure of Life edition of the Orchos Tzadikkim (Published by Feldheim) Listen, Subscribe & Share: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jewish-inspiration-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1476610783Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4r0KfjMzmCNQbiNaZBCSU7) to stay inspired! In this episode of the Jewish Inspiration Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe continues his discussion on the Gate of Generosity from Orchos Tzaddikim (Day 97, page 573, Treasure for Life edition), emphasizing the profound impact of charity (tzedakah) and generosity. He highlights how tzedakah uplifts nations, citing the Jewish community's outpouring of support after October 7th, including Torch’s contribution of thousands of watches for soldiers in Israel. Rabbi Wolbe underscores that generosity extends beyond money to include kind words, thoughts, and actions, all of which accompany a person to the world to come, as supported by Talmudic teachings and verses from Psalms and Isaiah.Drawing on biblical figures like Abraham, King David, and King Solomon, Rabbi Wolbe illustrates how their tzedakah brought honor, life, and divine praise, noting that charity is so powerful that it redeems Israel and exalts God. He emphasizes that the world was built on kindness (olam chesed yibane), urging listeners to embrace generosity as a core trait that engenders blessings and eternal rewards. The episode ties into the Torch campaign, encouraging sponsorship to support global Jewish learning, reinforcing that every act of giving—whether material or spiritual—elevates both the giver and the community.Recorded at TORCH Centre in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on March 10, 2025, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on July 16, 2025 This series on Orchos Tzadikim/Ways of the Righteous is produced in partnership with Hachzek.Join the revolution of daily Mussar study at hachzek.com.We are using the Treasure of Life edition of the Orchos Tzadikkim (Published by Feldheim) Listen, Subscribe & Share: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jewish-inspiration-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1476610783Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4r0KfjMzmCNQbiNaZBCSU7) to stay inspired! In this episode of the Ask Away series on the Everyday Judaism Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe addresses a variety of listener questions about Jewish practices and beliefs at the Torch Center in Houston. He clarifies that one does not need to stand when a covered Torah scroll is at rest on the bimah, but standing is required during its transportation, such as when it’s removed from the ark or carried, with varying opinions on standing during its reading or blessings. On writing in sacred texts, Rabbi Wolbe explains that notes can be taken to aid Torah study if done respectfully, avoiding excessive markings that diminish a book’s sanctity, and encourages maintaining a notebook for learning, as historical sages did. He addresses the disposal of holy texts in a genizah, a designated burial for worn-out sacred items, contrasting past preservation efforts with modern abundance due to printing and digital resources. Finally, Rabbi Wolbe attributes the root of antisemitism to a historical jealousy of the Jewish people’s unique relationship with God and the Torah, exacerbated when Jews fail to uphold their responsibilities, urging greater commitment to Jewish values to mitigate such tensions. In this episode of Ask Away we address these questions and topics:Sitting while the Torah is out of the Ark, when it’s covered and uncovered, or regarding the person holding the Torah during the Haftorah reading? Is it permissible to write notes in a book like the Book of Judges during a Torah study class? Does it matter if notes are written in pen or pencil? Is it okay to own a Torah book you haven’t yet learned from but intend to study? How does the concept of genizah (storing or burying sacred texts) align with the practice of preserving or burying holy texts? Is it permissible to delete digital files containing Hashem’s name, such as on a phone? What is the root of antisemitism, especially given current global issues?Does the rule of placing books from greatest to least importance apply only when they are laid on a table, not on a bookshelf? And much more ... In this episode of the Parsha Review Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe explores Parshas Balak, focusing on the story of Balak, the king of Moab, who hires the powerful prophet Bilaam to curse the Jewish people (Numbers 22). Rabbi Wolbe recounts the riveting narrative where Bilaam’s donkey, divinely enabled to speak, rebukes him for striking it, symbolizing resistance to his mission to curse the Jews. Rashi’s commentary highlights the donkey’s reference to “three times” as an allusion to the Jewish people’s observance of the three festivals (Pesach, Shavuot, Sukkot), which Bilaam seeks to undermine. Rabbi Wolbe explains why the festivals define the Jewish people, emphasizing the miraculous nature of Jerusalem’s Temple Mount, which, like a deer’s hide, supernaturally expands to accommodate millions during these pilgrimages without anyone feeling cramped. This contrasts sharply with Bilaam’s frustration when his donkey pins his leg against a wall, revealing his inability to tolerate minor discomfort, unlike the Jewish people who trust in Hashem’s providence. Rabbi Wolbe draws a broader lesson, contrasting Bilaam’s arrogance and reliance on material wealth with the Jewish people’s faith in Hashem’s control, as seen in historical miracles like the Six-Day War and the protection of Jewish homes during festival pilgrimages. He critiques the modern notion of “financial security” as a form of arrogance, urging listeners to let go of self-reliance and trust in Hashem while still acting responsibly. Using the metaphor of a tractor-trailer stuck under an overpass, he suggests “letting the air out of our arrogance” to align with divine will. The episode concludes with a call to live with faith, recognizing that Hashem orchestrates every outcome, and to embrace this trust for a meaningful Shabbos and life. In this episode of the Jewish Inspiration Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe continues his exploration of generosity, focusing on Day 96 from Orchos Tzaddikim (page 567, Treasure for Life edition). He emphasizes that generosity is a habit, a muscle strengthened through consistent giving, regardless of one’s financial means. Citing the Rambam, he explains that giving small amounts frequently, like a dollar a million times, builds this habit more effectively than a single large donation. Rabbi Wolbe shares personal anecdotes, such as a man who always donates to the synagogue’s charity box despite limited means, and his own efforts to give eagerly during the Torch campaign, highlighting the importance of giving with joy and humanity, not reluctance or kvetching, to instill a culture of generosity in future generations.Rabbi Wolbe stresses the highest form of charity: giving anonymously, where neither the giver nor the recipient knows the other’s identity, as exemplified by organizations like Tomche Shabbos, which discreetly supports families in need. He recounts stories, including one where he fulfilled a friend’s request to feed a hungry person in Israel, underscoring the privilege of giving with kindness. Quoting scriptures and sages, he warns against giving with a sour expression or avoiding charity, equating such avoidance to idolatry, as it prioritizes money over God’s will. The episode concludes with a call to treat the poor with love, as they may be God testing one’s generosity, with rewards proportional to the kindness shown.Recorded at TORCH Centre in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on March 10, 2025, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on July 8, 2025 This series on Orchos Tzadikim/Ways of the Righteous is produced in partnership with Hachzek.Join the revolution of daily Mussar study at hachzek.com.We are using the Treasure of Life edition of the Orchos Tzadikkim (Published by Feldheim) Listen, Subscribe & Share: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jewish-inspiration-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1476610783Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4r0KfjMzmCNQbiNaZBCSU7) to stay inspired! Have you ever wondered why a pagan prophet's words are featured so prominently in the Torah? Join us as we explore the enigmatic story of Parsha Balak, where King Balak's relentless efforts to curse the Jewish people through Balaam the prophet are thwarted by divine intervention. We unravel Balaam's complex character, revealed through his bizarre interaction with a talking donkey and his covetous nature. In particular, we scrutinize the poignant verse from Chapter 23, Verse 10, where Balaam paradoxically wishes to die as righteously as the patriarchs despite failing to live a life of righteousness. This episode powerfully illustrates the futility of seeking repentance at the eleventh hour and underscores the daily opportunities to connect with God through the 613 commandments. We then delve into the spiritual treasure trove that is the Shema, drawing wisdom from the Zohar. We discuss how the Shema's 248 words correspond to the 248 limbs of the human body, emphasizing the power of its recitation in dispelling negative energies. Simple yet profound morning rituals like washing hands, wearing tzitzit, and putting on tefillin are highlighted, offering practical guidance on living a meaningful Jewish life. With an engaging analogy involving a chocolate bar, we reflect on how dedicating even a small portion of our day to these mitzvot can yield profound spiritual rewards. Wrapping up, we encourage listeners to maximize every moment by connecting with the Almighty through His commandments and Torah study, enriching our lives in service to Hashem. May we all be blessed to live this way. Amen. In this episode of the Jewish Inspiration Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe explores the 17th gate of generosity from Orchos Tzaddikim (page 561, Treasure for Life edition) during a "Mussar Mondays" Masterclass. He redefines generosity as a heart-driven trait encompassing not just financial giving but also kindness, wisdom, and physical effort, using Abraham’s hospitality and advocacy as a model. Generosity, he explains, elevates one spiritually and socially, yielding rewards in this world and the next, as illustrated by a story of a man in Ashdod whose father’s kindness decades earlier led to an unexpectedly lavish wedding for his daughter.Rabbi Wolbe emphasizes that generosity is a divine loan, citing King Solomon’s teaching to “cast your bread upon the water” for future returns. He highlights three forms of generosity—monetary, physical, and intellectual—and encourages proactive giving without calculation, as God replenishes the giver. Tied to the Torch campaign at GiveTorch.net, the episode inspires listeners to embrace generosity as a transformative act that aligns with divine will and fosters connection, urging them to judge others favorably and share wisdom to uplift the world.Recorded at TORCH Centre in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on March 10, 2025, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on July 6, 2025 This series on Orchos Tzadikim/Ways of the Righteous is produced in partnership with Hachzek.Join the revolution of daily Mussar study at hachzek.com.We are using the Treasure of Life edition of the Orchos Tzadikkim (Published by Feldheim) Listen, Subscribe & Share: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jewish-inspiration-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1476610783Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4r0KfjMzmCNQbiNaZBCSU7) to stay inspired!
