Every week, the Parsha (portions of) the Torah are read in our Synagogues and communities, with unique stories and invaluable lessons to be learned. One such class taught by this week’s parsha is that sometimes, tremendous focus and concentration are necessary to accomplish great things. Moshe demonstrated this quality throughout his life, as he isolated himself to speak directly with Hashem (God). By reflecting upon this lesson, we can learn how to implement critical concentration in our lives, allowing us to achieve our goals while staying humble and in tune with God’s will. There Is No Finer Quality Than Acting With Tzniyus
There Is No Finer Quality Than Acting With Tzniyus

This Dvar Torah on the Parsha explains why the second set of Luchos endured eternally while the first did not. The secret behind this success lies in the concept of tzniyus, or privacy. When Hashem gave us the Ten Commandments for a second time, it was done with more significant consideration for privacy and awe than before. Giving us these laws with such sensitivity allowed them to be eternalized, and even today, we still abide by their framework. The parsha provides an essential lesson about cherishing our relationship with G-d and recognizing that it should be done respectfully and privately. By understanding the importance of tzniyus, we can ensure our connection with Hashem remains solid and eternal. This dvar torah is an important reminder to act with integrity, respect, and humility when interacting with Hashem and people. By doing so, we can ensure that our actions align with the Ten Commandments given at Mt. Sinai and continue to live according to them for eternity. Dvar Torah on Parshas Vayakhel-Pekudei | How To Make The Forbes List
Dvar Torah on Parshas Vayakhel-Pekudei | How To Make The Forbes List

In this episode of The Torah Podcast: Without prior knowledge of weaving, sewing, or constructing, how could the Jewish people build the Mishkan? The Ramban's answer in parshas Vayakhel is genuinely inspiring. He explains that under the guidance of Hashem, a few individuals could find within themselves the strength and determination to succeed despite the seemingly impossible task set before them. The lesson here is timeless – it takes grit and determination to build great things and achieve goals that appear spiritually unachievable. This same concept applies today when we look at those who have made successful companies or written critical commentary on Torah texts. It all comes down to drive, grit, and strong faith in oneself - knowing that with Hashem's help, anything can be achieved. With this mindset firmly rooted in our souls, there is no limit to what we can accomplish. It is this same drive and determination that the individuals in parshas Vayakhel had, which we can all emulate today. By believing in ourselves and investing our time, energy, and effort into whatever God asks of us, we can achieve great things - no matter how impossible they may seem. We must take one step at a time towards our goal with faith and confidence, knowing Hashem will provide us with the necessary resources for success. Nothing stops us from making the impossible possible – just as those who built the Mishkan did!Highlights:-Tap into your inner strength and determination to achieve great things-Believe in yourself and Hashem, and you can accomplish anything-Find the grit to push forward even when the task ahead seems impossible-Be inspired by those who have achieved greatness against all oddsSee the Ramban inside for yourself! In today's short Torah Talk:The Mesillas Yesharim teaches us that the yetzer hara can be overcome if we analyze our actions and strive to improve rather than choosing comfort over effort. To do this, we must recognize when these excuses are coming from the yetzer hara and decide not to listen. The Nesi'im tarried donating to the Mishkan in our parsha. Although they had the right intentions, their implied rebuke teaches us how a person can overcome laziness and reach greatness through hard work and commitment. We must look to the stories of the Nesi'im as inspiration, striving to push ourselves closer to achieving our full potential in our Divine Service. By recognizing that true greatness lies beyond comfort, one can create a path toward success in life. In today's short Dvar Torah on Parshas Vayakhel-Pekudei:The Jewish people demonstrated their commitment to serving God when constructing the Mishkan according to His specifications. We must strive to have this same enthusiasm and dedication in our lives. This means following God's laws and instructions, no matter the cost. It also means that our actions should reflect our beliefs: we should do all we can to live according to God's will. This same attitude of sincerity and devotion drove the Jewish people to build the Mishkan many years ago. Let us strive to make this idea a soundtrack for our lives today by living according to God's commandments and showing sincere devotion in all aspects of life. May we be inspired by the dedication of those who built the Mishkan and use it as a reminder to always strive for God-centered living. All For The Boss
All For The Boss
Mar 18, 2023
2:34
Rabbi Yaakov Yosef Herman was known as a Torah giant, and his acts of kindness were famous throughout the Jewish world. He built an entire brand around his good deeds. His inspiring life was told over In the book called "All for the Boss." He often went far out of his way to help others in need, whether offering them money, food, or simply lending an ear. Rabbi Herman truly believed that all our blessings come from G-d and that by doing what we can to improve other people's lives, we are ultimately helping Hashem. Rabbi Herman used his own time and resources to provide charity to those less fortunate than himself. He did this without hesitation or expectation of anything in return. His selfless acts earned him the respect and admiration of those around him, and his story has been passed down through generations as an example of how to live a life filled with kindness. Rabbi Herman's dedication to helping others was one of the most inspiring examples of charity and generosity we can learn from today. His name is synonymous with giving, and his legacy continues in the lives of countless people he helped. He truly embodied the idea that by giving back to society, we ultimately give back to G-d. May his memory be a blessing! Save Yourself. Get A Rebbe.
Save Yourself. Get A Rebbe.
Mar 19, 2023

We need to heed the warnings of wise people around us and take steps to protect ourselves from potential catastrophes. The Jewish people could have avoided much difficulty by heeding Mordechai's advice and not attending the party. This same lesson can be applied today, for we all need guidance from knowledgeable individuals in our lives, and this ensures that we are taking the best course of action. A Rabbi or Rebbe can provide valuable insight into difficult situations, helping us make informed decisions that minimize risks and maximize rewards. By following their wisdom, we may avoid many potential calamities. By listening to wise advice from those we trust, we can rest assured that we are taking steps to protect ourselves and our loved ones from harm. The Jewish people did not heed Mordechai's warnings, but we must not make the same mistake. Let us strive to learn from their example and continually seek trustworthy guidance on how to best prepare for whatever life throws our way. No matter what challenges come our way, when we follow wise counsel and remain vigilant in safeguarding ourselves and our loved ones, no amount of adversity can stand in our way. The story of Mordechai and the Jewish people in Persia is a reminder to listen to the proper authority figures at the right time. Save Yourself. Get a Rebbe. We must take the time to recognize Hashem's gifts of life and love and thank Him for them. Rav Yeruchom Levovitz encourages us to compose our own book of psalms, our gratitude journal filled with thank-you notes to G-d for all the blessings He has bestowed upon us. This is a way to show appreciation and express our value for those gifts. Writing down our gratefulness helps us stay mindful of Hashem's grace and reminds us that it's essential to pause, reflect, and be thankful each day. We should count our blessings regularly to live with gratitude, joy, and peace. Only then can we truly understand and appreciate just how much Hashem does for us. Rav Yeruchom Levovitz teaches us to recognize the good and express our thanksgiving. Indeed, writing a personal book of psalms is an excellent way to practice being thankful and mindful of Hashem's gifts.• Recognizing Hashem's gifts of life and love should be a priority.• Rav Yeruchom Levovitz suggests composing a gratitude journal - a book of psalms - to express appreciation for the blessings bestowed by G-d.• Writing down one's gratefulness keeps them mindful of Hashem's grace and reminds them to pause, reflect, and appreciate the gifts.• Counting blessings regularly can lead to living with gratitude, joy, and peace.• Expressing thanksgiving is an essential part of understanding Hashem's endless generosity.See the text inside for yourself! Ready. Set. Action.
Ready. Set. Action.
Mar 21, 2023
2:23
The Torah is a book of life; its teachings are meant to bring joy and fulfillment to our lives. The mitzvos (commandments) were given to help us grow spiritually. Still, sometimes it can be hard to understand how something seemingly mundane such as donning tefillin or tying tzitzit, can have spiritual significance. But through connection, light and holiness infuse even the simplest of actions. When we take the mantles of these mitzvos, we create a special bond between G-d and us – a relationship that surpasses mere understanding. Even though leather may seem unlikely for this purpose, it is a seemingly dry callous material. Yet, tefillin can become a vessel of holiness, a connection to something more significant. The power of creation is seen in every aspect of our lives – from the most subtle details of daily life to the grandest moments. When we participate in these mitzvos, we open ourselves up to receive G-d's divine love and understanding, allowing us to experience true joy and fulfillment. This is a secret of creation. Through this humble act of tying leather straps around our arms or forehead, we create an eternal bond between Hashem and us – a lasting relationship. Rav Shach on Small Aleph in Vayikra (Parshas Vayikra)
Rav Shach on Small Aleph in Vayikra (Parshas Vayikra)
Mar 22, 2023
3:43
Rav Shach explains that when Moshe wrote the word Vayikra, he used a small aleph as part of the word. He explains that this was to teach us an important lesson. By making the aleph smaller than the other letters, Rav Shach shows us that we must be humble and realize our smallness in relation to Hashem. This is why it is written "Vayikra" with a small Aleph - Hashem called unto Moses" - because even though Moshe was on a very high spiritual level, he still employed new tactics to fight the Yetzer Hara every single day. By emphasizing this humbleness through the size of the letter, Moshe teaches us all a timeless lesson. Pesach 2023
Pesach 2023
Mar 27, 2023
4:01
Passover, or Pesach in Hebrew, is a Jewish holiday commemorating the Israelites' liberation from slavery in ancient Egypt. It is celebrated for seven days, with the first and last days being special holidays. On the first night of Passover, Jews gather around the table to celebrate freedom and tell the story of their ancestors' exodus from Egypt. The first night of Pesach is an integral part of the holiday. During this time, families come together to share a meal known as a Seder. This meal includes traditional foods such as matzah (unleavened bread), charoset (a sweet mixture of apples and nuts), and maror (bitter herbs). As they eat, family members take turns reading from a book called the Haggadah which tells the story of how God freed the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. At each stage of the Seder, special rituals are performed to remind us of our ancestors' journey out of Egypt. For example, during karpas (the vegetable course), we dip parsley into salt water to symbolize tears shed by those enslaved in Egypt. The night of Pesach is about remembering our past and looking forward to our future. We use this time to reflect on what it means to be free and how we can work towards achieving freedom today. We also make sure that everyone at our table feels included by inviting guests so they can learn more about our culture and history. The night of Pesach is an opportunity to unite as a community and celebrate freedom while reflecting on our shared history as Jews. Whether celebrating with your family or attending a Seder with friends, it will surely be an unforgettable experience! A World Where You Can Fly (Parsha)
A World Where You Can Fly (Parsha)
Mar 28, 2023
4:15
In the world of spirituality, material things are not as important within this realm. Here the focus is on spiritual growth and understanding; knowledge, wisdom, and compassion are held in higher regard than material possessions. The power of love, kindness, forgiveness, and understanding far outweighs any tangible item or accomplishment. This spiritual world brings an appreciation for life and all its beauty - the natural wonders, animals, plants, and people that inhabit it. The Jewish holiday of Pesach, or Passover, is a time to celebrate freedom. It commemorates the Israelites’ liberation from slavery in Egypt, but it also serves as a reminder that we can all be free from bad habits and behaviors. Pesach is the perfect time to reflect on our freedoms and how we can use them to make positive life changes. We can start by recognizing the destructive habits holding us back and then taking steps to break them. This could include anything from unhealthy eating patterns to procrastination or even addiction. It’s important to remember that breaking bad habits isn’t easy, and it takes time and dedication. Having a support system of friends and family who understand what you’re going through and can help keep you motivated is also helpful. Additionally, it may be beneficial to seek professional help if needed. By celebrating Pesach, we can remind ourselves of the power of freedom and use it as an opportunity for personal growth. We can take this time to reflect on our own lives, identify areas where we need improvement, and commit ourselves to make meaningful changes for the better. Dvar Torah on Parshas Tzav | Ashes of Glory

In this week's Torah Podcast, The Jewish mitzvah (commandment) of Terumas Hadeshen is a ritual that involves taking a small portion of ashes from atop the altar each day and setting them aside. Terumas Hadeshen teaches us about continuity, and setting aside part of the ash from the previous day reminds us that while our service may change, it originates in yesterday's work. Through this mitzvah, we come to understand that even as time passes, there is something tangible that remains to connect us to the past and guide us into the future. The Hotza'as Hadeshen also reminds us not to rest on our laurels and fall into complacency due to previous accomplishments. We must strive for excellence each day regardless of what has been accomplished in days prior and approach our service of Hasehm with passion and enthusiasm.Summary:• Each day in the Mikdash, the Kohen's service began with the mitzvah of Terumas Hadeshen, by which a kohen separated and placed ash next to the altar.• This mitzvah was not part of regular housekeeping as it required a kohen and was done ceremoniously.• It served to remind those coming to serve Hashem that in service of Hashem, they need not reinvent the wheel.• The mitzvah of Terumas Hadeshen taught continuity and building on the past, while Hotza'as Hadeshen taught the need to approach each day with new purpose and vigor. The Kohen, or High Priest, is an important figure in Judaism, and he is responsible for performing the sacred rituals and ceremonies of the faith. As such, he must be dressed appropriately for his role. The Kohen's traditional attire includes a custom-fitted linen tunic, and this unique garment requires a tailored fit. The Pesach Seder With Rav Hutner

It was the night of Pesach, and the family had gathered together for their Seder. The house was filled with laughter and conversations as aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends arrived to celebrate. As they took their places at the table, they began to sing songs of gratitude and praise while they feasted on matzo ball soup, brisket, and kugel. The youngest grandchild proudly read out the four Hebrew questions enthusiastically. Everyone smiled, marveling at his recitation. The youngest then proceeded to open up the Haggadah as all eyes fixed upon him. He turned the pages slowly and read each statement aloud that represented a part of the great Exodus story. Then, family members around the table shared stories of their ancestors before them and how those individuals had gone through difficult times in life. It was a fun-filled night enjoyed by all involved as every family member retired contentedly, knowing that Pesach's timeless message had been passed down for generations. Pesach Seder With The Family Or The Chofetz Chaim?
Pesach Seder With The Family Or The Chofetz Chaim?
Apr 3, 2023

Seder night is the highlight of Pesach for many Jewish families, but it can be challenging to keep children excited and engaged in the rituals. The key is to make it fun and interactive. Here are some tips on how to keep your children enthused throughout the evening: 1. Tell stories – Telling stories is a great way to help children better understand the meaning behind Seder night. Choose stories or parables that relate directly to Pesach, such as why we eat matzah or cover our eyes during the Haggadah prayer. 2. Include kids’ songs – Children often find traditional music dull, so introduce upbeat kids’ tunes and classic Pesach melodies. Ask everyone to join in and sing, creating a more relaxed and joyous atmosphere. 3. Utilize games – Introduce creative games into your Seder night activities, such as charades or word puzzles related to Pesach themes. You can even make up your own game! 4. Set out special treats – Give children something to look forward to by setting out a plate of special yummy snacks just for them (e.g., chocolate coins). Not only will it keep their attention and curiosity piqued, but it’s also an excellent way for kids to learn about different Pesach symbols like maror and haroset. 5. Ask questions – Keep children actively engaged by asking questions throughout the Seder night. These can range from simple ones, such as why we eat matzah, to more complex ones, regarding the deeper meaning of Pesach. Make sure to involve everyone in the discussion and ask each person to share their thoughts and ideas. Following these tips ensures that your family’s Pesach seder night is meaningful and enjoyable for everyone! With some effort and creativity, it can be an exciting evening that your children will never forget. Enjoy!Consider adding this exciting bag of Pesach Seder props to bring your Seder to life! First Date Seder
First Date Seder

Making the Pesach Seder fun and interactive is integral to connecting with our Jewish heritage and passing on traditions to future generations. The seder plate, which traditionally contains a roasted shank bone, matzah, maror (bitter herbs), charoses (a mixture of fruit and nuts), karpas (a vegetable, usually onion or parsley), and salt water, can be used to create exciting activities for the whole family! One fun activity that can be done with the seder plate is a "quest"—have each person at the table take turns finding an item on the seder plate. Whoever finds it first will get to tell everyone what it means and why we use it during the seder. You can also ask participants to act out a scene from the Passover story, with each person assigned a different role as they tell the story of our Exodus from Egypt. In addition to involving everyone in activities, you can make your seder more interactive by creating a "storyboard" around the outside of the table. Place pictures and symbols that remind us of our heritage and its traditions so that while eating and drinking at the table, you can still remember why we celebrate this memorable holiday. Finally, spicing up your Pesach Seder doesn't have to stop at activities—you can add a touch of fun by incorporating food into the festivities! Some ideas for creative dishes include matzah lasagna, potato kugel, macaroons, and more. Not only will these traditional dishes taste great, but they will also keep everyone engaged as we remember the story of our deliverance from Egypt. Making the Pesach Seder fun and interactive doesn't have to be complicated. With a few simple ideas and some creativity, you can create memories that last well beyond this holiday season—and remind us of why we celebrate it in the first place! As we proceed, we understand that contemporary dreams and prophetic messages are only for the most devout individuals, revealing how our dreams often echo our daytime thoughts and obsessions. Whether it's a business tycoon dreaming of a major deal, a young kid envisioning a game-winning shot, or a spiritual seeker dreaming of Torah greatness, we discover that dreams are an intimate reflection of our innermost desires. Ready for an enlightening journey that questions why Yosef, in the Torah, left his father Yaakov mourning without reassurance about his safety? We promise to take you on a thought-provoking exploration of this complex issue as we compare it to personal experiences like preparing for camp or the significance of writing letters home. We ponder various possible explanations, including the captivating perspective of Mir Mashiach of Yeruchom Levovitz. Wrapping up the discussion, we take a light-hearted detour as we recollect our amusing letter-writing adventures.Shifting gears, we examine the role of Joseph's dream and its impact on his decision to write to his father, seemingly contradicting the fifth commandment of honoring one's parents. Could Joseph, or anyone, go against a commandment to fulfill their destiny? The Ramban's complex answers push us further into this intriguing puzzle. We'll also explore the somewhat controversial viewpoint of Rabbi Yeruchom that the world comes before the Torah. Lastly, we'll cast light on the concept of Seychel, or common sense, as a unique gift that aligns us with the Torah. Join us for this engaging and insightful discussion! Have you ever wondered about the mystical connection between a Talmudic sage and divine intervention? Rabbi Glatstein joins me in unraveling the enigma of Rav Meir, whose plea "Elokai d'Meir Aneni" resonates as a beacon of hope through the ages. Our conversation takes you on a journey through the narrative of Rav Meir's sister-in-law's remarkable rescue, as recorded in the Gemara in Avodah Zara, and highlights how his teachings have impacted Jewish thought. The Klozenberger Rebbe's reliance on Rav Meir's prayer during the Holocaust is just one example of its timeless relevance. I also unveil the personal odyssey that led me to a year-long project and the eventual creation of a book that probes the depths of Rav Meir's impactful wisdom. As we anticipate the release of a book that promises to stitch together logic and love within rabbinic learning, you'll hear our excitement for a tome that goes beyond the surface, aiming to transform its readers. Southern Spirits and Shema Prayers: A Journey Through Jewish Life Below the Mason-Dixon Line

Growing up amidst the charming quirks of Southern life and the hallowed traditions of Judaism, my Virginia roots are as entwined with the scent of mama's morning grits as they are with the spiritual cadence of the Shema prayer. Pour yourself a bourbon-spiked coffee and join us on a nostalgic trip back to a Hebrew school where allegiance was pledged to both the Star of David and the Stars and Stripes. We look at how these morning rituals—grounded in regional culture or religious devotion—reflect a universal dedication to a higher purpose that transcends the Mason-Dixon Line. This episode is a tapestry woven with the threads of Southern Jewish identity, where I recount the meaningful act of pledging allegiance to faith alongside the country. We don't pay homage to the Shema as a daily declaration but delve into its powerful lineage—a reenactment of the moment when Jacob's sons sealed their commitment to God. Through personal anecdotes and reflections, we explore how this tradition resonates deeply within our lives, reminding us that, no matter where we're from, our days begin with affirming our values and a promise to serve something greater than ourselves. So, grab your seat at the table—Yankees and Southerners alike—and let's raise our cups to a day started with purpose and a pledge.
