Doctors told her she had just 6 to 9 months to live. Her immediate response captured her spirit: “Oh no, that won’t work—I already paid for a race 10 months away.” In that moment, Orly became a cancer patient, but she refused to let the disease define her. She continues to undergo treatment, including chemotherapy and occasional radiation—always with grit, humor, and resilience. While some days are harder than others, Orly is determined not to let cancer become her entire identity. She remains deeply committed to spreading awareness about the power of movement and exercise, particularly in the frum community, where these conversations can sometimes be overlooked. Orly is currently training for a 10K in November to raise awareness for colon cancer, and a half marathon in January. This led to a prestigious Sabbatical Fellowship from the MacArthur Foundation to study the determinants of health-promoting and health-damaging behaviors alongside many leading behavioral clinicians across the nation. In 1990, Dr. Rozanski joined the cardiology staff of St. Lukes/Roosevelt Hospital (now Mount Sinai St. Lukes and Mount Sinai West Hospitals) where he eventually served as Chief of Cardiology before assuming his current positions. Dr. Rozanski is noted for his unique clinical and academic focus and novel research that uniquely integrates the fields of Preventive Cardiology with Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine. In addition, Dr. Rozanski is a leading expert in applying Cardiac Imaging for optimal Risk Assessment and Clinical Decision Making among patients who are candidates for cardiac testing due to risk factors or symptoms which are suggesting of heart disease. She completed training at New York Presbyterian Hospital’s personality disorders unit where she provided individual and group Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and participated in case consultation with Otto Kernberg, M.D. She then provided Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and comprehensive DBT at Northwell Health’s Behavioral Health College Partnership. Upon completing her training at Northwell Health, she recognized the need for trauma-focused training for her DBT clients who completed stage 1 DBT. At Rutgers University’s college counseling program, she focused her training on evidence-based trauma treatments including Prolonged Exposure (PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).Dr. Kobernick has advanced training in DBT and specialized training in adaptations of DBT for adolescents and children. She has been supervised by Francheska Perepletchikova, PhD, developer of DBT for children (DBT-C), and is a trainer for DBT-C. While Dr. Kobernick enjoys practicing DBT, she is trained in other evidence-based modalities and is passionate about training and supervising other clinicians in her hopes to disseminate these modalities within the Orthodox Jewish community. She has also received specialized training in suicide prevention, evidence-based approaches in addiction treatment, CBT for insomnia, Motivational Interviewing, Psychological First Aid, Teaching and Supervising CBT from the Beck Institute, Behavioral Parent Management Training, Trauma Art Narrative Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Trauma-Focused CBT for children. Rivki has worked closely with Rabbis and Kallah teachers to create specialized treatment plans that meet the religious needs of her clients. Rivki is an instructor for the Herman & Wallace Pelvic Institute, where she provides continuing education for healthcare professionals in the area of pelvic health. Dr. David Gorski is a surgical oncologist at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, specializing in breast cancer surgery and a professor of surgery at Wayne State University School of Medicine. Dr. Gorski attended the University of Michigan, where he received an MD in 1988. In 1989, he entered a residency in general surgery at the University Hospitals of Cleveland. Gorski left residency for a PhD in cellular physiology at Case Western Reserve University, completed in 1994. Dr. Gorski continued his residency (1993–96) and completed a surgical oncology research fellowship (1996–99) at The University of Chicago. He is the author of a blog, Respectful Insolence, and the managing editor of the website Science-Based Medicine, which are both “ science skeptic “ sites. Avigail Gimpel is a mom and educator who is the author of Hyper Healing: The Empowered Parent’s Complete Guide to raising a healthy child with ADHD symptoms. Avigail received her BA from Touro college and completed her graduate studies at Touro college graduate school for Special Education in Manhattan, New York. She taught in Yeshiva Darchei Torah in Far Rockaway from 1995 to 1998, where she developed an intervention program for student struggling with ADHD symptoms, after which she married and made aliyah.In Israel she earned advanced degrees in teaching reading to children with Dyslexia and cognitive education for children with ADHD symptoms.After returning to Israel, she immersed herself in studying and developing treatment options for ADHD for her own kids and many struggling students. She collaborated with her father-in-law, Dr. Amnon Gimpel (psychiatrist and neurologist), and developed a parent training program.
