Moed Katan 16a:

2:17

If someone visits the Kosel on Erev Shabbos, does he tear kriyah? What if he’s not crying—should he tear anyway? In this episode, we tackle the core question: Is kriyah a reaction to existing emotion, or a halachic tool meant to create that emotion? We explore the geder of kriyah in aveilus and for seeing the Makom HaMikdash, based on the sugya in Moed Katan and Rav Moshe Feinstein’s teshuvah in Igros Moshe. A clear breakdown of the lomdus and how it plays out in halacha lemaaseh.

Moed Katan 12a: Why Getting Paid on Chol Hamoed Is Its Own Issur — Beyond Melacha

Jul 30, 2025

2:24

We often think of Chol Hamoed restrictions as revolving around melacha—but there's a separate prohibition against earning money, even when no technical melacha is involved. In this episode, we explore why that is. The answer lies in the Torah's description of the moed as a mikra kodesh — a time meant to be elevated, protected from weekday distractions. We'll examine how Chazal used this principle to build a framework that preserves the unique atmosphere of the days, and why even a perfectly permissible task becomes problematic when it becomes a paid job.

Jul 25, 2025

2:49

Moed Katan 10b:What Qualifies as a Davar Ha’avud on Chol Hamoed?📖 Description:Chol Hamoed presents a unique halachic challenge for business owners. While most melacha is forbidden, the Gemara in Moed Katan 10b makes an exception for cases of davar ha’avud—preventing financial loss. But what exactly is considered a loss? In this episode, we clarify the distinction between actual loss of capital and merely missing out on potential profit (meni’as revach), based on Shulchan Aruch O.C. 539 and the Chazon Ish’s perspective. Through practical examples—like seasonal merchandise or declining market value—we explain when the halacha permits opening a store and when it remains prohibited. A must-listen for anyone involved in commerce over Yom Tov.

Torah vs. Mitzvah: When Learning Must Wait📝 Episode Description:This episode dives into the Talmudic passage in Moed Katan 9b, where the Gemara grapples with a striking contradiction: Is Torah study greater than all other pursuits—including mitzvot—or must it sometimes step aside? We explore the distinction the Gemara makes between a mitzvah that others can fulfill and one that only you can do. Why should even the most sacred act of learning be interrupted? Isn’t Torah study an all-encompassing obligation?Drawing on the insights of R’ Elchanan Wasserman and the Aruch HaShulchan, we examine two profound approaches: one that defines Torah study as a personal obligation limited to moments of availability, and another that sees Torah’s value as inherently tied to action. This thought-provoking discussion challenges us to rethink the role of Torah—not just as study, but as a force that shapes our priorities and brings purpose to our lives.

Moed Katan 2a: Introduction to Hilchos Chol Hamoed

Jun 30, 2025

3:57

🎙️ Podcast Episode Title:"Chol HaMoed: Enjoyment First, Work Last"🎧 Description:What’s the real reason melacha is prohibited on Chol HaMoed? Is it a Torah prohibition—or rabbinic? And why do some melachos feel stricter than others? In this episode, we clarify the halachic status of work on Chol HaMoed, based on classic sources and contemporary analysis. Some Rishonim hold that melacha is assur de’oraisa, straight from the Torah. Others say it’s derabanan, a rabbinic boundary. But either way, the core idea is the same: these days were designed for enjoyment—spiritual and physical. That’s why even seemingly minor tasks can be completely forbidden—because they pull you out of the Yom Tov mindset. The Chachamim were given full authority to define which forms of work are allowed and which interrupt simchas Yom Tov.Whether it’s repairing your shoes, answering emails, or running errands—this episode will help you understand not just the rules, but the reason behind them: to make Chol HaMoed a real celebration, not just a break in routine.

וגם – האם צריך להזכיר את הטוב והמטיב בתוך על המחיה עם המשפט "כי אתה טוב ומטיב לכל"?🎙️ Episode Description (English):The fourth bracha of Birkat HaMazon — HaTov VeHaMeitiv — wasn’t originally about food at all. It was established in response to the miracle of Beitar. So why is it part of bentching? Is it a continuation of the first three brachos or just an added bonus? This episode explores its halachic geder and major nafka minos — like what happens if you forget Retzei on Shabbos but already started HaTov VeHaMeitiv. Are you still in the middle, or do you have to start over? And when saying Al HaMichya, do you need to mention HaTov VeHaMeitiv with the phrase "ki Atah Tov uMeitiv lakol"?

Jun 22, 2025

Is the bracha on Chatzi Hallel based on it being a real obligation or just a minhag? We explore the machlokes between the Rambam, Rif, and Rabbeinu Tam: Is a bracha said only with a tzibur, or even by a yachid? Is there no bracha at all because it’s just a minhag? We’ll clarify the psak of the Shulchan Aruch and Rama, explain what Ashkenazim and Sephardim do, and discuss what to do if you’re in the middle of Pesukei D’zimra when the tzibur starts Hallel. Jun 22, 2025

2:09

This episode dives into the core chakirah behind the Gemara’s question: when it asks whether a yachid can read Torah al peh for the tzibbur, is the issue a din in krias haTorah—that the mitzvah requires ksav and a Sefer Torah? Or is the question rooted in the general issur of saying Torah sheb’al peh by heart? We’ll explore the yesodos in the Gra, the Maharam Mintz, and the Magen Avraham, and bring out key nafka minos: Is it a problem in the cheftza of the Torah being said, or in the gavra’s manner of fulfilling the mitzvah?

We’ll explore nafka minos between the two, such as whether one must be standing, whether birkas haTorah is required beforehand, and whether it must be said specifically during the day. Jun 13, 2025

2:22

In this episode, we explore the deeper reason why Chanukah is celebrated for eight days—not just seven. If the miracle of the oil began on night two, why add an extra day? We delve into the idea that the miracle wasn’t just in the oil lasting, but in what it revealed: that even the seemingly “natural” is truly miraculous. Just as vinegar can burn like oil when willed by Hashem, so too, every moment of light and life is a gift. We end with a powerful vort from Rav Shmuel Rozovsky on the phrase “Bnei binah yemei shemonah”—reminding us that true understanding means recognizing Hashem in all eight days.
