Heatwave in U.S. Canada, United Arab Emirates 7/14/24

The imagery included a screenshot of conditions at a major city along the Persian Gulf at 4pm on July 14th, 2024. The city is in the United Arab Emirates which is located at 24.3° N latitude. Using the National Weather Service Wet Bulb Global Temperature calculator it becomes apparent that the WBGT was 93°F at that time. This translates to 34°C. This is the very hottest of human survival. At the time of the recording of this episode it was unknown that the heat was this extreme. Had it been known the episode would have been designated to discuss this point alone. It is commonly believed that when a wet bulb temperature reaches 95°F/35°C humans will die within 6 hours. The same is true regarding WBGT. However, it should be pointed out that when the WBGT reaches 95°F during the daytime, there would presumably be some relief by going to a shaded area making the heat less deadly. The same could not be said regarding WBT alone. This episode was recorded in the hottest part of the month within the hottest month of the year. The weather map reflects this as the synoptic weather setup is bringing very significant heatwaves to at least 3 parts of our country. The most populated state included in this heatwave is New York City. The city with the most unique spin on this heatwave is Denver Colorado. The place with the most dangerous heat in the U.S. is the Midwest cornbelt and Omaha Nebraska in particular. The most headline friendly news event is the Extreme Heat Warning issue for areas near the Arctic Ocean. This warning was issued by Environmental Canada and is in effect for the northern Arctic Coast, This episode also discusses concepts such as compressional warming its connection to a cold front. We speak about the Bermuda High and it's impact on Baltimore in particular. We make mention of the warm deep waters in the Gulf and the impact this could have on hurricanes. We discuss states such as Tennessee, North Carolina and Colorado. Those 3 states are experiencing record heat. Deadly heat continues along the coastal cities of United Arab Emirates. This is by far the hottest place in the world right now as heat indecies go into the 130's (132°F/55°C) with Wet Bulb Temperatures between 86° - 90°F/ 32°C and Wet Bulb Global Temperature of 90°F+ (93°F/34°C). There are several important topics discussed in this episode including a short segment on the cicadas, an alternative effective way to know when a tornado will hit your area, a new color coded system that will be used this Summer by the National Weather Service and mentions the upper limit of heat that the human body could endure. In this episode we discuss an intense but short lived 3 day heatwave over South Texas, Mexico and to a lesser extent other parts of the Gulf Coast. This heatwave is from Tuesday - Thursday May 6th - May 8th 2024. In this episode we read a little from The "Washington Post" which discussed record warmth from Mexico to Southern New England. This episode also discusses an updated system that the National Weather Service will be using to publicize heat dangers. This episode discusses some of the heat indices and very dangerous Wet Bulb Globe temperatures that are occuring in Southeastern Texas. This episode discusses the way to measure wet bulb temperature which is slightly different from wet bulb globe temperature. This episode discusses Wet-bulb-globe temperature which is often referred to as “Wet-bulb” temperature. In cold weather the term Wet-bulb temperature accurately refers to Wet-bulb temperature. In hot weather it usually refers to Wet-bulb-globe temperature. Wet bulb temperature, black globe temperature and dry bulb temperature are all necessary in order to figure out the Wet-bulb-globe temperature. There are other variables needed as well such as sun angle, solar radiation (cloud cover) and wind speed. This episode discusses an intense early season heatwave that is expected to expand and maximize from Mexico to Texas over the next couple days. This will expand further along much of the Gulf Coast reaching a peak on May 9th for most locations. There will be a small window of time when the heat will become life threatening for athletes in some locations. WBGT are considered unbearable at 35°C/95°F. Recent studies show that it's close to unbearable at 86° 87°F / 30°C. This episode discusses the isolated spots of 90°F/32°C WBGT in Texas. We discuss 2 cities regarding this. We discuss how this will be occurring in these 2 cities around 1pm Wednesday and 1pm Thursday May 9th 2024. The NWS has a peak WBGT occuring in parts of South Texas on Wednesday at 93°F/34°C. This heat is of a magnitude that might even be greater than last Summer. The rest of the episode discusses the heatwave including the humidity. At this point, the peak indices will be slightly lower with this event than last Summer's due to the slightly lower dew points. This heat is also not nearly as widespread as it was last Summer. However, last summer's heat didn't get started until mid-June. We discuss areas of extreme temperatures of 45°C+/113°F+ in places that have minimal humidity. We discuss the placement of the dry-line in relation to Brownsville Texas. We discuss the Wet-bulb temperatures Forecasted by the European model (in this context it does not mean WBGT only WBT). We discuss the ending of this heat within the United States. We make brief mention of the current severe weather outbreak including nighttime tornadoes going on in the Plains. This episode focuses on one of the most fascinating places in the world for a heart and humidity enthusiast. As humid as the Gulf Of Mexico is (along with its surrounding states) it's power doesn't hold a candlestick to the Persian Gulf. This episode discusses some of the water temperatures that occur in the Persian Gulf. We discuss the impact this had on the historical floods that took place in parts of Iran, Onan and the United Arab Emirates. The main focus is the United Arab Emirates because it's easier to find weather information about the UAE and they also have a fascinating cloud seeding program. We discuss cloud seeding and the different approaches UAE uses vs. Israel. It should be noted that the highest widespread totals of rain may have occurred in Iran with several cities of 10+ inches.
