I turn to music in emotional times in life. It’s the way I connect to myself, to other people, and most of all to religion and G-d. During the last 10 days I’ve been humming, singing, listening, and playing music. Using technology to remotely connect and sing with @dschwartz_arts was a bonding and therapeutic experience. It helped me realize how music is always there for me. There is a part of this song that speaks to me most: הלב שלי נקרע לשניים
חציו אשם וחציו לשם שמים
Right now our hearts are divided in two. In one sense we have pushed our spiritual health to the side to care for our physical health. Shuls are closed. Schools are cancelled. Minyanim are on hold. For many, Kaddish can’t be said. But in truth we have this opportunity to care for ourselves physically in a way that elevates our spiritual wellbeing. We are back to the basics - focusing on ourselves and our families. But it is so inspiring that we have elevated technology to connect to our brothers and sisters all over the world. Finding ways to go above an beyond to continue our religious and spiritual practices.
I pray that all those who need it will have a speedy recovery, and I look forward to when this infection stops spreading and we once again will be able to return to our shuls and schools and our normal routines and that am Yisroel is elevated because of all this and we bring moshiach quickly and return home once and for all! •
