The imagery included a screenshot of conditions at a major city along the Persian Gulf at 4pm on July 14th, 2024. The city is in the United Arab Emirates which is located at 24.3° N latitude. Using the National Weather Service Wet Bulb Global Temperature calculator it becomes apparent that the WBGT was 93°F at that time. This translates to 34°C. This is the very hottest of human survival. At the time of the recording of this episode it was unknown that the heat was this extreme. Had it been known the episode would have been designated to discuss this point alone. It is commonly believed that when a wet bulb temperature reaches 95°F/35°C humans will die within 6 hours. The same is true regarding WBGT. However, it should be pointed out that when the WBGT reaches 95°F during the daytime, there would presumably be some relief by going to a shaded area making the heat less deadly. The same could not be said regarding WBT alone. This episode was recorded in the hottest part of the month within the hottest month of the year. The weather map reflects this as the synoptic weather setup is bringing very significant heatwaves to at least 3 parts of our country. The most populated state included in this heatwave is New York City. The city with the most unique spin on this heatwave is Denver Colorado. The place with the most dangerous heat in the U.S. is the Midwest cornbelt and Omaha Nebraska in particular. The most headline friendly news event is the Extreme Heat Warning issue for areas near the Arctic Ocean. This warning was issued by Environmental Canada and is in effect for the northern Arctic Coast, This episode also discusses concepts such as compressional warming its connection to a cold front. We speak about the Bermuda High and it's impact on Baltimore in particular. We make mention of the warm deep waters in the Gulf and the impact this could have on hurricanes. We discuss states such as Tennessee, North Carolina and Colorado. Those 3 states are experiencing record heat. Deadly heat continues along the coastal cities of United Arab Emirates. This is by far the hottest place in the world right now as heat indecies go into the 130's (132°F/55°C) with Wet Bulb Temperatures between 86° - 90°F/ 32°C and Wet Bulb Global Temperature of 90°F+ (93°F/34°C). An impactful winter storm has developed over Colorado. In fact, the National Weather Service is calling this a historical storm. The development of this storm has been the question of the week for forecasters and its development is an exciting moment for weather enthusiasts. Blizzard warnings have been issued for parts of Colorado. A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Denver. This past Sunday we did an episode on this podcast that mentioned the European computer model forecasting 6 -12 inches for areas well to the South East of Denver and 6 inches for Denver. The National Weather Service said in most likelihood an Impactful Winter Storm will not develop. That was Sunday. Well it's now Thursday. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning and is currently forecasting 6 - 14 inches for Denver with over 3 feet in other parts of the state. Low pressure of 29.6 tracks from the Southern High Plains to Mid-Atlantic area. Precipitation of a convective nature is occurring even on its cold side bringing thundersnow to areas that don't normally see this. Portions of Kansas will be seeing it's heaviest snowfall in 60 years as 12+ inches falls within a relatively short period of time. Storm starts to develop a negative tilt as it brings in strong Arctic air on its back side while copious gulf moisture feeds into the system. Areas that receive 0.5 inches of ice or more could expect to see at least some power outages. This storm will impact many major cities across states in the central U.S. to Mid-Atlantic. This includes St.Louis, Cincinnati, Baltimore and even Washington D.C. where 5 to 10 inches is currently forecasted. This episode discusses all this in more detail. In addition this episode discusses an impactful lake effect snow event that may set itself up over portions of the Chicago area and Southeast Wisconsin tonight and tomorrow Monday 1/6. Stay safe. Information regarding the geographical heights of the heat domes, the strength of the upper Midwest storm system and the international heat discussion comes from the European computer model as advertised on windy.com 12pm CDT Wednesday May 14th. Temperatures are given using the faranheit system. For point of reference- 113°F = 45°C. 90°F = 32°C and 122°F = 50° C. And the mention of Caspian Sea is referring to the countries to the east of Caspian Sea. This episode was made Wednesday May 14th, 2025 and is the 3rd episode to cover the Midwest weather for Thursday 5/15/25 regarding both heat and severe weather potential. It's also the 3rd episode to cover the Texas heatwave. The following is an overview: An enhanced severe weather risk has been issued by the Storm prediction center for a significant portion of the Great lakes area for Thursday, severe weather outbreak in an area in the Midwest is expected on Friday and a severe weather outbreak expected areas to the south of that on Saturday but less significant. Major Heat is expected in Texas today and temperatures reach 90° for the first time for many cities from New Orleans Louisiana all the way to Chicago along with many cities in between and to the north. Extreme heat is expected to overtake the entire country of Israel this Shabbos and very intense Heat for today for areas to the east of the Caspian Sea, areas along the India Pakistan border and this heat will redevelop later on in the next two week forecast cycle.
