Inspirational Extended Warmth Locks Into Midwest to End September and October (Early). (Made 9/26) Extended Heatwave by end of this week. Powerhouse Heat Dome of 591 decimeter settles over Southern Missouri and Illinois on Saturday 9/30/23. Heat Dome weakens slightly on Sunday to 588 but remains stationary through Midweek next week. This will bring widespread 80's across all 10 Midwest States + South Central States as well. Some isolated spots of 90s will take place. Due to the Easterly component to the wend around the Mississippi river going eastward, temps will be cooler near the Lake in Chicago. This weather pattern is known as an Omega Block. In an Omega Block All Cold Air From Canada is Directed to the West Coast. This Cold air is forecasted to make it to the Midwest bringing snow to parts of the great lakes and Iowa by the end of October. However, the GFS model has this happening as early as about October 8th (Simchat Torah holiday). Stay tuned for later updates. 90° Heat heads to Omaha. High's from 77° - 86° (25 - 30° C) for Chicago. High's 80' for Most Midwest with 50' and 60's at night. Warm and Dry weather arrives in time for The Holiday Of Succot providing Ideal conditions for Both sleeping and Eating Outside in the Succa (hut with no rain protection). This includes ALL cities in MidwestBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/weather-with-enthusiasm--4911017/support.

Extended Heatwave by the end of this week. But 1st a cut off low pressure storm system which originated from the pacific Ocean continues to bring heavy rain with storms across Minnesota and it's surrounding states to the South and East. This Cut Off low is difficult to forecast because it does not have the jet stream associated with it. In fact it will be the high pressure ridge that will eventually push this low out of here. Until it does there are approximately 2 waves of precipitation that may impact the Chicago area on Tuesday 9/26/23. The 1st is for the morning rush hour and the 2nd is for the evening rush hour. The storm's impact on St.Louis will be dependent upon a surge of Gulf moisture which most models keep it East of The Mississippi. Therefore this system is not currently forecasted to have a significant impact in St.Louis. However, there is a marginal risk for severe weather for parts of both Missouri and Illinois. Cloud to ground lightning, large hail and even a couple of damaging tornadoes remains possible even in Chicago. In between the system and the ridge there could be isolated lake effect rain showers near parts of Lake Michigan. All rain shuts down and Friday onward no rain for many days. Low Pressure of 29.6 moves across the Midwest Monday and Tuesday and affects the East Coast into Wednesday. Severe Weather risks to the south a solid rain for Chicago Monday night. This is a complex system. The complexity can interfere with the accuracy. The effects this system has in New York depends upon if/when a piece of energy gets ejected from the southwest states. A secondary low will develop off the Mid-Atlantic Coast this week. A dry weak cold from affects Chicago Thursday Evening.Arctic air moves in behind a low-pressure system next weekend. Snow showers along the front are a good possibility but there are a lot of unknowns with this system. Enthusiastic delivery of 7 day weather synopsis
Nov 20, 2023
18:27
Enthusiastic delivery of 7-day weather synopsis with likely improved accuracy due to better communication about the weekend system. This episode makes reference to several National Weather Services throughout the country. This includes New York, Buffalo, St.Louis, Kansas City, Chicago, Midland TX Bismark, N.D. In addition, this episode contains info from the National Weather Service in Holley, N.J., New Orleans, South Bend, Cleveland, Norman, OK, Detroit, Milwaukie, and Duluth (or whichever one includes Lake Superior). Several other forecast discussions from additional forecast offices were used in preparation for this podcast. This includes Omaha, Des Moines, Green Bay, Wisconsin, Anchorage, Amarillo, TX, Ohio (the one that covers Cincinnati), and additional offices. Additional resources used in preparation for this episode were 3 weather articles in the Washinton Post. The computer models advertised on Windy.Com were also used in preparation, especially the European model. This is used together with the guidance offered from the forecast discussions of various national weather services. The long-term weather forecasters mentioned in this episode are believed to be from AccuWeather. This episode incorporates previous knowledge that is known to the Podcaster from being a weather Enthusiast from the time he was three. Some of that information comes from meteorologists Dave Murray and Tom Skilling. Occasionally the New York Times. The enthusiasm expressed in this episode comes from the podcaster's natural love for weather and fascination with forecasting (as do all the episodes). Some of this love was transmitted from the human voice on the NOAA weather radio. The material in the Washington Post is frequently written by Mathew Cappucci. This one includes information from Dan Stillman and possibly others, especially Jason Samenow. This episode adds clarification and has some additional info including a small discussion about El Nino. We discuss Google's new Forecasts made through artificial intelligence. It's more accurate than the European model. We make some comparisons between this week's weather pattern and a pattern back in January 2021 (and December 2019 and 2020).Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/weather-with-enthusiasm--4911017/support.

It's Mid December. We are in the midst of a heavy snowfall in one of our most southern states. The Texas Panhandle is under a Winter Storm Warning for 4 - 8 inches of snow. All eyes now turn to the formation of a Gulf Low. It's forecasted to intensify as it moves up the coast. Snow enthusiasts would ordinarily be ecstatic, especially those that live from the Mid-Atlantic area northward. However, the forecast does not match up to what our ears hear. It's snowing in Texas but there is no Arctic air in sight. And the East Coast forecast has no mention of snow. Why? This episode deals with some of this. Answers to these questions are dealt with in many of the episodes made this week. Hurricane Hunters flew into the storm system in the Gulf of Alaska on Friday 1/5/24 and gathered information about this storm to improve the forecasting accuracy. This storm reached the Pacific coast Saturday night. It moved South along the California coast on Sunday 1/7/24 as mentioned in this episode. This storm in combination with the trailing Alberta Clipper behind it will be responsible for a major weather pattern change bringing winter from Montana into the Plains and the Midwest. The storm system crosses the Rockies and redevelops on Monday over the Texas panhandle into a stronger low-pressure system of 29.4. The storm becomes negatively tilted as it undergoes rapid intensification. The storm intensifies to category 1 hurricane strength by Wednesday morning of 28.9 as it moves into the Eastern Great Lakes. The track of the storm heads to Interstate 44 in Missouri from Texas and then Interstate 70 in Illinois. The system then moves Northeast passing south and east of Lake Michigan. Summer heat and humidity develop in south Texas along with an enhanced severe weather risk. At the time of this episode, the risk was a 3 but as of early Monday morning, the risk has increased to a 4 out of 5, especially for areas near southeast Louisiana. This means there is a 40% chance for severe weather within a 25-mile radius in this area or more accurately 40% coverage. This risk includes tornadoes, damaging (58+mph) wind gusts, and damaging hail (1+ inch in diameter). This storm system and especially its abundant moisture is the result of the El Nino weather pattern. As is typical in El Nino years there is minimal phasing between the subtropical and polar jet stream. As a result, the air will not be that cold behind the system. Nonetheless, the combination of evaporative cooling and dynamic cooling along with it being the coldest time of year will help the precipitation fall as snow, especially during the heavier precipitation rates. In addition, thundersnow is likely to develop in parts of Northern Missouri and nearby areas. Chicago lies in the most difficult part of this storm to forecast. In this episode, we speak all about this storm along with the Chicago forecast which will likely see 3 to 6 inches. The official amounts will likely be closer to 6 but unofficially the amount on the ground might be closer to 3 or 4 due to possible melting along with the witness of the snow. This El Nino weather pattern will take upon a new twist starting Thursday the first day of the Lunar month Shvat as an Arctic air mass finally makes its into the midwest behind an Alberta clipper. This will be the 1st of 3punches of Arctic Air. Snow will likely fall with each Arctic front. Gulf moisture will likely be ingested into system number 2. This episode contains more information about this active weather pattern.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/weather-with-enthusiasm--4911017/support.

This episode discusses the snow totals that occured along and east of the Colorado mountain range in the March 13 - 15 2024 snow storm. There is a focus on the larger metropolitan city of Denver. Find out which cities received 5 feet of snow and if AccuWeather's forecasted snowfall max was accurate. As usual, much of the information from this episode comes from the National Weather Service. Usually it's directly from their website but in this case it comes from the newspaper that tends to gather much information from the National Weather Service, the Washington Post. You will learn why despite seeing an enormous snow total of 2 feet in Denver, this storm will likely be quickly forgotten. For more information regarding the development of this storm listen to the previous episode that discussed the forecasting of this storm. That episode includes the place it originated from, the various ingredients that needed to come together to produce such a storm. Topics such as upsloping, moisture feed along with what makes this storm really unique is all discussed. Learn about how the uniqueness of this storm created difficulty in forecasting the weather for places on the west side of the mountain range. All this info is inside the episode on forecasting this storm. Info from that episode comes from the National Weather Service and the various computer models as advertised on Windy.com. It should be pointed out that although this episode discusses the general snow totals of this storm as reported on March 15th, there was some snow that fell afterwards for many of these cities but that snow was light. Colorado Summer Snowstorm of 2020 (4 minutes)
Colorado Summer Snowstorm of 2020 (4 minutes)
Mar 18, 2024
4:10
A strong upper level low brought an end to record heat, and provided Denver its second earliest measurable snowfall on record. Numerous heat records were set leading up to the snowfall, and several new snowfall and cold records were also broken in this abrupt bout with winter. On September 5, 2020, Denver set its all time record high for September, reaching 101 degrees during the afternoon. This was also the latest date a 100 degree reading has ever been observed in Denver. Another daily record high was then tied on September 6 when Denver hit 97 degrees. September 7th was the last day of heat across the eastern plains of Colorado, when Denver's high temperature reached 93. That tied us for the record for the number of 90 degree days for a year (73), and was also the warmest temperature ever recorded before a day of measurable snowfall.By the evening of September 7th, a series of cold fronts progressed southward from Wyoming into Colorado, dropping the temperature down to the low 30s by early Tuesday morning. Snow developed across the Front Range and foothills overnight, while a mix of rain and snow developed along the I-25 metro corridor. A few locations picked up light snow accumulations in the morning. Accumulating snow was mostly confined to the higher elevations much of the day Tuesday, before spreading across the plains during the late afternoon and evening. Snow spread across the far eastern plains overnight, and tapered off by Wednesday morning. Total snowfall accumulations were 1 to 3 inches across much of the eastern plains, 3 to 6 inches for cities along the mountains (including Boulder and the western portions of Fort Collins), and 4 to 10 inches for the mountains and foothills of the Front Range. A total of 5.6 inches of snow was measured at the NWS Boulder office, while Denver officially measured a total of 1.0 inches. Learn about the impacts this system will have on other Midwest cities such as Milwaukee Wisconsin, Minneapolis Minnesota and Bismarck North Dakota. We discuss how this system will impact the East Coast with a focus on New England. We discuss which part of Canada this system originated from. We speak about the storm's moisture feed and whether it's from the Gulf of Mexico or the Pacific Ocean.
