Here is a table of contents summarizing the weather podcast, focusing on extreme weather events and conditions globally, with a special emphasis on heatwaves and high dew points, and ending with the songs that played in the background. Chapter 1: Introduction and Extreme Heat in the Persian Gulf (00:08) The podcast begins by highlighting extreme weather conditions, particularly the phenomenal dew points and wet bulb temperatures in the Persian Gulf, where dew points reach the upper 80s and wet bulb temperatures are expected to hit 90 degrees, potentially reaching the upper limits of human tolerance. Temperatures in Iran's Great Salt Desert are forecasted to soar, with surface temperatures possibly exceeding the official record due to a lack of weather stations. Shuster, Iran, is mentioned as a city where temperatures frequently reach the 130s, although official records may not reflect this due to the distance of the nearest weather station. Chapter 2: Heat Dome in the US and High Dew Points (03:19) The discussion shifts to a strengthening heat dome in the US Midwest and East Coast, with forecasts indicating it will intensify over the next two weeks. High dew points are noted not only in the Persian Gulf but also in the United States, especially around the Gulf of Mexico and the Midwest corn belt, creating swamp-like conditions. The air originates from the Gulf of Mexico, traveling over a thousand miles, and the corn belt enhances the humidity levels. Chapter 3: Extreme Heat in Dubai and the Caspian Sea (04:28) The podcast revisits the United Arab Emirates, focusing on Dubai, where temperatures remain consistently in the mid-90s, driven by high dew points leading to heat indices approaching 130. The conversation then turns to the Caspian Sea in Russia, where unusually high ocean water temperatures, similar to those in the Gulf of Mexico, lead to very humid conditions. The possibility of weather phenomena similar to Tornado Alley in the US occurring near the Caspian Sea is speculated due to the presence of both humid and dry air masses. Chapter 4: Global Weather Observations and the Lack of Hurricanes in July (08:43) The podcast notes intense warmth in the Arctic regions of northern Canada and Alaska, with temperatures expected to reach the 80s. Intense heat is also observed on the West Coast of the US, particularly on the eastern side of the Cascades. The lack of hurricanes in July, despite warm ocean temperatures, is attributed to the plume of Sahara dust that interferes with hurricane development. Chapter 5: Heat Advisories and Closing Remarks (10:54) Heat advisories are in effect across the northern states of the Midwest, with a large area of excessive heat warnings covering much of the Midwest and South Central states. The heat dome is expected to center over the mid-Atlantic area later in the week, bringing super hot weather. The podcast concludes with encouragement to stay healthy and hydrated.Chapter 6: Songs Played During the Podcast (12:30) The podcast concludes by identifying the songs played in the background, including "Journey through the Desert" by Trace Way, and several Blue Dot Sessions tracks such as "Skyway", "Borrow", "Molly Molly" and "Glass Beads", ending with a track listed as "L I T E 20, saturation 25".Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/weather-with-enthusiasm--4911017/support.

White Hurricane: The Great Lakes Storm of 1913In November 1913, two storm systems phased over the Great Lakes into a meteorological bomb sailors still call the White Hurricane, the Big Blow, and the Freshwater Fury. Hurricane-force gusts, 35-foot seas, and whiteout snow sank about a dozen freighters and killed an estimated 250 people — the deadliest natural disaster in recorded Great Lakes history. This Weather With Enthusiasm episode walks the meteorology day by day, the Lake Huron six-hour catastrophe, land impacts from Cleveland to Port Huron, and what a modern NWS/NOAA model reconstruction reveals about winds and waves the captains faced without radar, satellites, or shipboard radio.Chapters:• Cold open — three names for one storm• Mild November setup and the race to finish shipping season• The Pre-Storm (Nov 7–8)• Sunday’s meteorological bomb (Nov 9)• Winds, fetch, and 35-foot seas on Lake Huron• Lake Carriers Association testimony• Ships lost and the human cost• Cleveland blizzard and shoreline impacts• Forecasting limits of 1913• Modern NWS/NOAA reconstruction• Lessons for Great Lakes November weatherMusic: “Our Names Engraved” by Blue Dot Sessions (CC BY-NC) — sessions.blueAI-assisted narration disclosed.#WeatherWithEnthusiasm #WhiteHurricane #GreatLakes #1913Storm #FreshwaterFury #BigBlow #LakeHuron #MaritimeHistory #NWS #NOAA #Blizzard #NovemberGale #Shipwreck #WeatherHistory #Meteorology #ClevelandSnow #BombCyclone #GreatLakesShipping #WeatherPodcast #HistoricalWeatherBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/weather-with-enthusiasm--4911017/support.Weather with Enthusiasm is produced by Kol Simcha Productions.New episodes drop daily (B'N)— a morning forecast at 7 AM and historical deep dives Tuesdays and Thursdays. Contact: [email protected] content is thoroughly researched and factually verified. Rabbi Yosef Tendler zt”l (1932–2012) was the longtime menahel (principal) of Mechinas Ner Yisroel, the high school of Yeshivas Ner Yisroel in Baltimore, and a major figure in American Torah chinuch. monastically id:Early Life and LearningBorn December 15, 1932, in New York, he was the son of Rav Isaac Tendler, a talmid of Radin. He studied at Rabbi Jacob Joseph and Yeshiva University before spending a transformative summer under Rav Aharon Kotler zt”l at Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood. He remained there for about 11 years and was among the first American-born talmidim of Rav Aharon—at a time when Lakewood had only about two dozen students. Rav Aharon chose him as one of four who helped prepare the shiur and had him review it for the other American-born students. monastically id: monastically id: monastically id:Leadership at Ner YisroelEncouraged by Rav Aharon Kotler and Rav Dov Schwartzman, he came to Ner Yisroel around 1961 to teach 12th grade. By 1964, at about age 32, he was appointed menahel of the Mechina—initially as a “temporary” role that lasted nearly 50 years (about 47–50 years until his petirah). He brought the intensity and fire of Lakewood to Baltimore and worked closely with Rosh Yeshiva Rav Yaakov Yitzchok Ruderman and Rabbi Naftali Neuberger. monastically id: monastically id: monastically id:Impact and CharacterHe was known for deep personal care for every student, discipline paired with genuine knowing of each boy, mussar and hashkafah that shaped character, and a sense of malchus (dignity and presence). He helped prepare students for marriage and life beyond yeshiva and, with the yeshiva leadership, played a role in efforts that supported Iranian Jewish students after the fall of the Shah. Thousands of talmidim credit him with molding them into bnei Torah. monastically id: monastically id: monastically id:Petirah and LegacyHe passed away on Tu B’Shvat 5772 (2012) in Baltimore. His yahrtzeit is observed on Tu B’Shvat. His legacy continues through shiurim (many digitized from cassette), the memories of his students, and institutions such as Kollel Nachlas Yosef in Baltimore, named in his memory. monastically id: monastically id: monastically id: monastically id:His life and approach are the focus of your episode “A Melech Who Planted Seeds: Remembering Rabbi Tendler and Ner Yisroel.”Episode TitleA Melech Who Planted Seeds: Remembering Rabbi Tendler and Ner Yisroel***Chapter Breakdown1. The Story of Abarbanel's Lost and Found Torah CommentaryDon Isaac Abarbanel (1437–1508) was a Portuguese rabbi, statesman, and biblical commentator who began writing his commentary on the Nevi'im Rishonim (the Former Prophets) while still living in Lisbon, serving as a trusted financial adviser to King Alfonso V. When Alfonso died and his successor, King John II, turned against the Jewish community, Abarbanel was forced to flee for his life across the border into Spain in 1483, leaving his home, his position, and his unfinished manuscript behind. For a decade, that manuscript was gone — lost in the chaos of his sudden exile. Abarbanel went on to serve the Spanish crown, only to be expelled again in 1492 when Ferdinand and Isabella ordered all Jews out of Spain; he escaped to Naples with what little he could carry. Then, remarkably, while sheltering on the Greek island of Corfu around 1493, Abarbanel came across a copy of that very manuscript he had believed lost forever in Lisbon. Moved by this unexpected discovery, he rededicated himself to the work and completed the commentary in 1496 while living in Monopoli, Italy. It became one of his most enduring contributions to Jewish biblical scholarship — a testament to how, even after two forced exiles, a piece of his life's work found its way back to him on an island shore.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/torah-with-simcha--4985090/support.Torah with Simcha is produced by Kol Simcha Productions.New episodes released regularly — exploring Torah, Jewish thought, and the wisdom that connects ancient text to everyday life.Contact: [email protected] is shared for educational, spiritual, and inspirational purposes. Title: **Aliyah to Eretz Yisrael: Individual vs. Collective**Timestamp Breakdown:* **00:00-02:43:** Recap of previous discussion on the mitzvah of living in Eretz Yisrael, its various interpretations, and the concept of Divine will for Jews in and outside the land.* **02:44-04:46:** Introduction to the topic of collective Aliyah and the Rash Bash's view on the oaths preventing a mass Aliyah, specifically not to hasten the end of exile or use force.* **04:47-07:22:** Discussion on the elusive source of the oaths and the Rash Bash's interpretation regarding not hastening the end of Galus (exile). The speaker touches upon the unique modern situation where the land was granted by the UN.* **07:23-08:33:** Example of B'nai Ephraim attempting to leave Egypt early and their destruction, as a cautionary tale against hastening the end.* **08:34-10:04:** Distinction between individual Aliyah (permissible) and national Aliyah (not permissible) according to the Rash Bash and Marsha, especially when it involves force or hastening the end.* **10:05-13:46:** Debate on whether the oath applies to individuals, the impossibility of regulating individual Aliyah to prevent a collective violation, and the conclusion that there's no individual obligation to go.* **13:47-18:03:** The question of going to Eretz Yisrael with permission from governments/UN. Marsha's view: permission makes it permissible.* **18:04-20:20:** Nishmas Cholchai and Yoel Moshe's counter-argument: even with permission, it can still be considered "Yad Chazaka" (strong hand/force) and violate the oath, citing the Exodus from Egypt.* **20:21-23:10:** Rashi's interpretation of "not going with force" (individuals can go, but not with extra force) and the Gemara in Yuma demonstrating that even with permission (e.g., Ezra's Aliyah), not all returned to avoid hastening the end of exile.* **23:11-26:24:** Ramban's "unbelievable" view that Hashem's promise of preservation applies primarily in exile, not necessarily in Eretz Yisrael, and the implications for collective Aliyah.* **26:25-29:56:** The view that going up with permission is still a violation of the oath, and the concern that an early return could lead to further sin and a second exile.* **29:57-32:55:** The shocking view of the Maharal from Prague: even if forced by nations under threat of death, one should not violate the oath and go to Eretz Yisrael.* **32:56-38:59:** The "six oaths" and the extreme interpretation from P'ri Tzaddik: not to "daven too much" for the end of exile, as even prayer can hasten it, illustrated by Moshe Rabbeinu's prayers.* **39:00-43:31:** The purpose of the oath: not to go up "like a wall" even if we feel worthy (Torah and good deeds) or even if there's great evil among nations. It's about waiting for Hashem's revealed will.* **43:32-46:01:** The duration of the oath (some say 1000 years, others indefinitel) and the argument that even if nations broke their part of a reciprocal oath, Jews are still bound by theirs.20 Hashtags:#Aliyah #EretzYisrael #JewishLaw #TorahStudy #Mashiach #Exile #Galus #Oaths #Halacha #Ramban #RashBash #Maharal #Israel #Zionism #JewishPhilosophy #DivineWill #Redemption #Tefillah #RabbinicDiscourse #JewishHistoryBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/torah-with-simcha--4985090/support.Torah with Simcha is produced by Kol Simcha Productions.New episodes released regularly — exploring Torah, Jewish thought, and the wisdom that connects ancient text to everyday life.Contact: [email protected] is shared for educational, spiritual, and inspirational purposes. Title: Honoring Extended Family: A Deeper Look into Kibbud Av Va'Eim Timestamp Breakdown: 0:00 - 0:56: Introduction to the topic: honoring one's older brother and father's wife (stepmother), even if she's not one's biological mother. The discussion starts with Rebbe's instruction to his children. 0:56 - 1:59: Rebbe's final words to his children: "Be careful about the covenant of your mother." Initial confusion: why instruct this, as honoring parents is already known? 1:59 - 2:30: Clarification of Rebbe's statement: "mother" here refers not to their biological mother, but to their father's wife (stepmother). 2:30 - 3:09: The source for honoring a stepmother: "Et Avicha" in the Torah, which is interpreted to include "Es Aish Es Avicha" (the wife of your father). 3:09 - 4:06: The source for honoring an older brother: an extra "vav" in "Et Imcha" ("vav yitzeira") is interpreted to include "Achicha HaGadol" (your oldest brother). 4:06 - 5:12: When is the mitzvah to honor a stepmother applicable? The Gemara answers it's only during the father's lifetime, not after his death. This explains Rebbe's specific command. 5:12 - 7:07: Rambam's view on honoring a stepmother: it's included in honoring one's father, thus only applicable during the father's lifetime. 7:07 - 8:13: Transition to honoring an older brother. Ramban's view: the obligation to honor an older brother is also only during the father's lifetime, as degrading his children causes the father pain. 8:13 - 9:13: Rambam's differing view on older brother: it's implied that the obligation to honor an older brother continues even after the father's death. 9:13 - 11:01: Elaboration on why honoring an older brother might continue after the father's death, unlike honoring a stepmother. It's not just about the father's honor. 11:01 - 13:17: Further discussion on the differing opinions regarding the duration of honoring an older brother, and if it applies to any older sibling, not just the eldest. 20 Hashtags: #KibbudAvVeEim #JewishLaw #Halacha #FamilyHonor #Stepmother #OlderBrother #Rambam #Ramban #Gemara #TorahInterpretation #Mitzvah #JewishEthics #FilialPiety #Respect #FamilyDynamics #RabbinicTeachings #ReligiousDuty #SiblingRespect #DeathAndMitzvah #JewishWisdomBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/torah-with-simcha--4985090/support.Torah with Simcha is produced by Kol Simcha Productions.New episodes released regularly — exploring Torah, Jewish thought, and the wisdom that connects ancient text to everyday life.Contact: [email protected] is shared for educational, spiritual, and inspirational purposes. The Great Smog of London: December 1952Weather With Enthusiasm — Episode 11Historical Extreme Weather Series━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━EPISODE SUMMARY━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━Five days in December 1952 turned London into a death trap. A stalled high-pressure system — an anticyclone — trapped millions of tonnes of coal smoke, sulfur dioxide, and acid particulates over the city in a dense, yellow-green fog that reduced visibility to near zero and killed thousands. This episode covers the meteorology, the human toll, the government cover-up, and the law that changed the world.━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━KEY FACTS━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━Dates: December 5–9, 1952Location: London, EnglandDeath toll: ~4,000 (1952 government estimate) | ~12,000 (modern research, 2004)Injuries/illnesses: ~100,000Duration: 5 days━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━METEOROLOGICAL DETAILS━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━• December 4: anticyclone settled over windless London — created a temperature inversion• Cool stagnant air trapped below warmer air — zero wind to disperse pollutants• Daily pollutant output during the smog: 1,000 tonnes smoke particles, 140 tonnes HCl, 14 tonnes fluorine compounds, ~370 tonnes SO2 (converted to ~800 tonnes H2SO4)• Sulfuric acid formed in fog droplets — effectively acid fog breathed by millions• Coal sources: home fireplaces, Fulham/Battersea/Bankside/Greenwich/West Ham power stations, diesel buses, steam locomotives━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━GOVERNMENT RESPONSE & LEGACY━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━• Initial government report (never finalized) attributed deaths to influenza• E.T. Wilkins, Atmospheric Pollution officer, found ~12,000 total deaths through mortality tracking• Feb 1953: Labour MP Marcus Lipton raised 6,000 deaths + 25,000 sickness claims in Parliament• 1956: British Parliament passed the Clean Air Act — world's first comprehensive national air pollution law• Established smoke-free zones, restricted coal burning, offered grants to switch to gas/oil/electricity• Updated in 1968 — became global template for environmental regulation━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━SOURCES━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━• Wikipedia: Great Smog of London — https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great Smog of London• Britannica: Great Smog of London — https://www.britannica.com/event/Great-Smog-of-London• National Geographic: The Great Smog woke the world to coal dangers — https://www.nationalgeographic.com/history/article/great-smog-of-london-1952-coal-air-pollution-environmental-disaster• London Museum: The Great Smog of 1952 — https://www.londonmuseum.org.uk/collections/london-stories/the-great-smog-of-1952/• Met Office: The Great Smog of 1952 — https://weather.metoffice.gov.uk/learn-about/weather/case-studies/great-smog• Texas A&M GeoNews: London Fog 1952 research — https://geonews.tamu.edu/news/2016/11/london-fog-1952.php━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━HASHTAGS━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━#GreatSmog #London1952 #WeatherHistory #AirPollution #CleanAirAct #ExtremeWeather #WeatherWithEnthusiasmNew episodes every Tuesday and Thursday.Morning forecasts every day at 7 AM on Spreaker.Support the show: $5/monthBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/weather-with-enthusiasm--4911017/support.Weather with Enthusiasm is produced by Kol Simcha Productions.New episodes drop daily (B'N)— a morning forecast at 7 AM and historical deep dives Tuesdays and Thursdays. Contact: [email protected] content is thoroughly researched and factually verified. A 596 decameter (dam) closed upper-level ridge — one of the strongest ever recorded over this region — is centered over the Ohio Valley, pumping oppressive heat and moisture into Chicago and surrounding areas. Highs in the lower 90s°F with dew points near 80°F are expected, producing heat indices of 105-110°F. An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect through Thursday.=== NWS LINCOLN IL DISCUSSION (Barnes, 5:22 AM CDT) ===596 dam closed contour heat dome over Ohio Valley — historically rare signature. NBM model running 2-4°F too warm; actual highs likely lower 90s rather than mid/upper 90s. Heat index exceeds 105°F through Thursday. SW winds gusting 25 kt.=== NWS CHICAGO LOT DISCUSSION (Ratzer, 2:02 AM CDT) ===H5 ~5960m (~596 dam). Extreme Heat Warning through Thursday. 80°F dew points observed Monday afternoon in southern CWA. Heat index 105-110°F. Lake Michigan water temps: Chicago Shore 66°F, Wilmette 62°F, Chicago Crib 61°F.=== 1995 HEATWAVE COMPARISON ===The 1995 Midwest heat wave remains the benchmark. St. Louis hit a dew point of 83°F on July 14, 1995. Appleton, WI recorded a 90°F dew point — the probable Western Hemisphere record — with a heat index of 153°F. The 1995 wet bulb temperature reached approximately 85°F (29°C). The 500mb ridge in 1995 peaked around 594-596 dam over the Great Plains; today's ridge matches or exceeds that at 596 dam over the Ohio Valley.=== CLOSED CONTOUR HEAT DOME SCIENCE ===A "closed contour" means the 500mb height lines form complete loops — no open pathways for cooler air to enter. Most heat domes do NOT produce closed contours; a closed 596 dam contour is extremely rare and represents an exceptionally locked, stagnant ridge. Not all heat domes are closed contour events.=== CORN BELT MOISTURE SCIENCE ===Corn fields act as natural evapotranspiration engines. A single mature corn plant transpires 50+ gallons of water per growing season. With millions of acres of corn in Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa all in active growth phase, the atmosphere is loaded with moisture from below — supplementing Gulf of Mexico moisture streaming northward. This is why Midwest dew points can spike to 80°F+ even without direct Gulf influence.=== WET BULB / WBGT SCIENCE ===Wet bulb temperature (WB) measures what your body actually feels when sweating. At 92°F air temp with 80°F dew point, the wet bulb approaches 84-85°F — near the physiological survivability limit for even healthy adults with shade and hydration. Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) adds solar radiation load; WBGT >32°C (89.6°F) is considered the military/OSHA "extreme danger" threshold.=== ORTHODOX COMMUNITY FORECASTS ===• St. Louis, MO: Mid-upper 90s, heat index 100-110°F. Extreme Heat Warning through Friday. NWS LSX.• Lakewood, NJ: Low-mid 90s, heat index 98-105°F. NWS PHI.• Borough Park, Brooklyn NY: Upper 80s-low 90s, humid. Heat Advisory. NWS OKX.• Baltimore, MD: Lower 90s, heat index 100-107°F. NWS LWX.• Philadelphia, PA: Lower-mid 90s, heat index 100-108°F. Heat Warning.• Atlantic City, NJ: Upper 80s-low 90s, sea breeze influence moderate.=== ISRAEL & DEAD SEA ===Jerusalem: 40-43°C (104-109°F), typical summer ridge. Low humidity (15-25%). Dead Sea: air temps 40-47°C; water temp ~31°C (88°F). Record at Sedom: 51°C. Mediterranean sea breeze provides relief to coastal Tel Aviv but Jerusalem's inland elevation (~750-800m) retains heat without sea-breeze relief.=== INDIA EXTREME HEAT / WORLD RECORD DEW POINTS ===India's Gangetic Plain and Rajasthan experience dew points of 85-90°F during peak monsoon onset with heat indices routinely above 130°F. The probable world record dew point: 95°F (35°C) at Dhahran, Saudi Arabia on July 8, 2003, with an air temp of 108°F (42°C) — producing a heat index of approximately 172°F.=== NAM vs GFS MODEL ACCURACY ===NAM (North American Mesoscale): Higher resolution (3-km), better at capturing local dew point pooling and mesoscale details. GFS: Global model, coarser, tends to underestimate extreme dew point events in the corn belt. For this event, NAM dew point forecasts of 78-82°F appear more accurate than GFS's 74-76°F projections.=== EPISODE FOOTER ===Morning forecasts air at 7 AM every day on Spreaker. This episode of Weather With Enthusiasm examines observations from the nearby South Haven Regional Airport, NOAA climate normals, National Weather Service storm reports, and NOAA Lake Michigan buoy data. It compares rainfall totals and timing, temperature and dew-point thresholds, heat index, unusually cool days, severe weather, and lake-water temperatures. The statistical verdict: through departure morning, 3.20 inches of rain fell, approximately 47% above the completed-day normal, while completed days averaged 3.7°F above normal for daytime highs. The session included four 90°F days, a peak calculated heat index near 105°F, a July 3 squall line, and a 1.73-inch daytime rain event on July 5.Methodology note: July 16 observations were partial through approximately 10 a.m. EDT. Completed-calendar-day climate comparisons therefore use June 24 through July 15, while event totals extend through departure morning July 16.No camp-specific illness outbreak, private-beach connection, or attributable camper quotation was verified, so none is presented as fact. This episode contains AI-generated narration and production elements. When the Sun Lies: Shawn Hunter and the Decision That Put Players FirstEpisode 4 | Weather With Enthusiasm | July 5, 2026The sky was blue. The radar was empty. Not a cloud in sight. And Impact Field's July 5th game was canceled anyway. This is the story of antecedent soil moisture, the limits of engineering, and one owner who chose safety over revenue — twice in the same afternoon.WHAT HAPPENED:The Chicago Dogs vs. Winnipeg Goldeyes game, scheduled for 3:00 PM with a delayed start of 4:45 PM, was ultimately canceled at 5:15 PM. The infield was deemed unplayable despite completely clear skies. The only puddle in the entire stadium was the one two-year-old Mookie created when he spilled his water cup.THE SCIENCE — ANTECEDENT SOIL MOISTURE:The U.S. Soil Conservation Service defines three antecedent moisture conditions:- Condition I: Dry (wilting point) — soil absorbs rain aggressively- Condition II: Average — normal after several dry days- Condition III: Wet (field capacity) — soil profile is fullBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/weather-with-enthusiasm--4911017/support.Weather with Enthusiasm is produced by Kol Simcha Productions.New episodes drop daily (B'N)— a morning forecast at 7 AM and historical deep dives Tuesdays and Thursdays. Contact: [email protected] content is thoroughly researched and factually verified. Impact Field: Field Science — Shawn Hunter, The Man, The Drainage System, The DecisionEpisode 3 | Weather With Enthusiasm | July 5, 2026It's 4:04 PM at Impact Field in Rosemont, Illinois. The sun is out. Not a cloud in the sky. And the game has been delayed nearly two hours. This episode explains why — and why that's actually a testament to smart engineering and even smarter leadership.WHAT YOU'LL HEAR IN THIS EPISODE:🏟️ WHY THE OUTFIELD IS SAFE (BUT THE INFIELD ISN'T)The outfield grass is structurally sound — turf traction holds even when wet. The infield skinned dirt is a different story: clay-heavy soil loses its structural integrity when saturated from below. Cleats punch through. Players fall. That's why kids are freely playing catch in the outfield while the infield crew is working overtime.🔧 THE 5-STEP CONDITIONING PROCESSWhat you're watching on the infield right now:1. Leaf blowers blast surface water away2. Rake and drag open the surface3. Calcined clay broadcast across the dirt4. Work the clay into the surface5. Tamp and test firmness — repeat until safe💧 CALCINED CLAY: THE SCIENCECalcined clay is kiln-fired at 1,200–1,400°F (per Turface specifications — not 1,800°F as sometimes misreported). The firing creates 74% pore space. That pore structure pulls moisture from the surface, firms the top layer, and gives cleats something to grip. Under good conditions: 45–90 minutes to effectiveness.🚰 THE 16,000 GPM PUMP STATIONMetropolitan Industries installed a 4-pump submersible system with 12-inch discharge piping and an emergency generator. It was spec'd for this specific site because Rosemont has a flood history going back to the village's founding in 1956 — when Willow Creek flooded so badly that rowboats were a household necessity. The pump station moves 16,000 gallons per minute. It's been running.🌧️ ROSEMONT'S FLOOD HISTORYIncorporated 1956. Village's own Instagram: "From a tiny flood-plagued corner of Cook County..." September 3, 2018 — Impact Field's first season — 2.5 inches fell in 25 minutes. Fans were evacuated. The field flooded. The drainage system spec (1 inch per 25 minutes handling capacity) was designed by Roger Bossard BEFORE that game, not after.📊 HOW MUCH RAIN FELLOfficial O'Hare (KORD) data: July 2: 1.64", July 3: 1.71", July 4 storm event: approximately 3". Month-to-date through July 4: 3.53" at O'Hare. Field-level in Rosemont likely 3.5–6" given localized storm cells.🌤️ THE RAIN FORECAST FOR THIS AFTERNOONNWS Chicago AFD (issued 1:52 PM CDT, forecaster Doom): "Isolated thunderstorm can't be ruled out north of I-80, but odds best prior to 3–4 PM... latest satellite trends show no distinct signs of new development." It is now past 4 PM. The window has closed. HRRR (High-Resolution Rapid Refresh, 3km model) shows dry through the evening. GFS and ECMWF agree. Rain probability: single digits. The sky is clear.🌟 SHAWN HUNTER — THE OWNERShawn Hunter (S-H-A-W-N H-U-N-T-E-R) is the founder, CEO, and majority owner of the Chicago Dogs. Before baseball, he was President of the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes and EVP of the Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets. He's the man who closed the David Beckham-to-LA Galaxy deal. Today, he got on the mic himself. He offered every fan a full refund. He opened the field. He put safety first. That's not a business decision — that's a philosophy.WEATHER DATA SOURCES:- NWS Chicago Area Forecast Discussion (LOT): https://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=LOT- HRRR model guidance via Windy.com- MWRD rainfall data- Turface/Profile Products calcined clay specifications- Metropolitan Industries pump station documentationNew episodes every morning at 7 AM on Spreaker, plus historical weather deep-dives every Tuesday and Thursday at 7 AM CDT.Support the show: $5/month keeps Weather With Enthusiasm on the air.Tags: weather, baseball, Impact Field, Chicago Dogs, Shawn Hunter, Rosemont, drainage, field science, NWS Chicago, HRRR, calcined clay, flood historyBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/weather-with-enthusiasm--4911017/support.Weather with Enthusiasm is produced by Kol Simcha Productions.New episodes drop daily (B'N)— a morning forecast at 7 AM and historical deep dives Tuesdays and Thursdays. Contact: [email protected] content is thoroughly researched and factually verified. Sunny. No Rain. Game Delayed. The Field Science Behind the Delay at Impact Field — Chicago Dogs vs. Winnipeg Goldeyes, July 5, 2026It's sunny. The radar is clean. Not a drop of rain is falling. And the game is delayed 1 hour 45 minutes. Here's why — and why the history of this land made it almost inevitable.=== WHAT HAPPENED ===The Chicago Dogs owner addressed fans, offered refunds to everyone staying and free future tickets to anyone who left. Fans played catch on the field while the grounds crew applied calcined clay conditioner to firm up the surface. New first pitch: 4:45 PM CDT.=== THE RAINFALL DISCREPANCY ===Owner cited ~6 inches. Official NWS O'Hare CF6 record shows:- July 2: 1.64"- July 3: 1.71"- July 4 storm: ~3" at O'Hare per MWRD/NWS (after morning obs cutoff)- Month-to-date through July 4: 3.53" officialMWRD confirmed the McCook TARP system (Cook County flood control) filled 6 times this year — more than the prior 5 years combined.Local field-level measurements at Impact Field, a low-lying site, likely exceeded the airport gauge. The real total near the stadium: 3.5–6 inches over several days.=== WHY THE DRAINAGE SYSTEM WASN'T ENOUGH ===Roger Bossard's celebrated drainage system handles 1 inch / 64,000 gallons on the playing surface in 20–25 minutes — from an acute single event. When the soil column is cumulatively saturated over multiple days, it reaches "field capacity" — gravity drainage stops, the subbase has no remaining capacity, and the surface loses structural support from below. The top layer looks dry. The field is sunny. But the turf will slide and give way under lateral force, creating serious injury risk.=== THE CONDITIONER ===Calcined clay (Turface MVP or Diamond Dry) — kiln-fired at ~1800°F, becomes highly porous and absorbs surface moisture rapidly. Addresses the top 2–3 inches only. Under a lake breeze, firms the surface in 45–90 minutes.=== ROSEMONT'S FLOODING HISTORY ===The Village of Rosemont incorporated in 1956 partly to address flooding. Willow Creek flooded so regularly that rowboats were a household necessity. First village president Donald Stephens made correcting flooding a founding mission. The Impact Field site sits on that same low-lying Chicago lake plain between I-294 and O'Hare.=== 2018 FLOODING AT IMPACT FIELD ===September 3, 2018 — the first season. 2.5 inches fell in 25 minutes. Fans were evacuated. Documented by Live Storms Media: "Insane CG barrage and flooding at Impact Field." This is why Bossard built what he built.=== CURRENT WEATHER (as of ~3 PM CDT) ===NWS AFD issued 1:52 PM CDT by forecaster Doom: "Latest satellite trends show no distinct signs of new development anywhere around the area — confidence to there being little to no impacts north of I-80." HRRR, GFS, ECMWF all show dry conditions at Rosemont through the evening. The 4:45 PM game should be played in sunshine.=== SOURCES ===- NWS O'Hare CF6: https://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=LOT&issuedby=ORD&product=CF6- MWRD TARP storm update July 4: https://mwrd.org/news/1030-am-storm-update-mwrds-tarp-systems-manages-heavy-rainfall- NWS Chicago AFD: https://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=LOT&issuedby=LOT&product=AFD- Rosemont history / Willow Creek flooding: Encyclopedia of Chicago- 2018 Impact Field flooding: Live Storms Media (YouTube, Sept 3 2018)Tags: weather, Chicago Dogs, Impact Field, Rosemont, rain delay, baseball, field science, soil saturation, groundskeeping, calcined clay, Turface, NWS Chicago, flooding, Chicago historyBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/weather-with-enthusiasm--4911017/support.Weather with Enthusiasm is produced by Kol Simcha Productions.New episodes drop daily (B'N)— a morning forecast at 7 AM and historical deep dives Tuesdays and Thursdays. Contact: [email protected] content is thoroughly researched and factually verified. Game Day Weather: Impact Field, Rosemont, ILChicago Dogs vs. Winnipeg Goldeyes — Sunday, July 5, 2026 | First Pitch 3:00 PM CDTA complete meteorological breakdown of weather conditions for today's game.=== THE STADIUM ===Impact Field | 9850 Balmoral Ave, Rosemont, IL 60018Coordinates: 41.983°N, 87.874°W | ~12 miles NW of downtown Chicago=== WEATHER SUMMARY ===NWS Chicago AFD issued 12:23 PM CDT, forecaster Yack.Pattern: Baggy shortwave trough over western Great Lakes. Broad surface low over southern Lake Michigan. Very saturated low levels — dew points near 68°F (tropical threshold). IFR fog and low stratus through midday.KEY FINDING FOR ROSEMONT: Primary storm axis is near/south of the Kankakee River Valley (30-40% chance), and as a precaution north to I-80 (20-25%). Rosemont sits 20+ miles north of I-80 — in the favored DRY zone.At First Pitch (3 PM CDT):- Temperature: ~75-78°F- Dew Point: ~68°F (humid but comfortable with lake breeze)- Sky: Mostly cloudy- Wind: NNE 10-15 mph gusts to 20 mph- Precipitation Probability (Rosemont): ~20%- Severe Threat: Virtually ZERO (limited wind shear, weak instability)=== NWS TERMS EXPLAINED IN THIS EPISODE ===- Baggy shortwave trough: Diffuse, spread-out dip in the jet stream — not a focused punch- Shortwave trough: Small-scale dip in the jet stream driving rising air and weather- Surface low: Low pressure at ground level drawing air inward and upward- Very saturated low levels: Air near the surface is soaked with moisture (dew point 68°F)- Wind shear: How wind speed/direction changes with altitude — limited today = brief pulse storms only- Instability: Atmospheric fuel for thunderstorm updrafts — much weaker than heat dome days- GFS, NAM, HREF, NBM: Weather models used to generate forecast guidance- Ensemble spread: Range of solutions across multiple model runs=== IMPACT FIELD DRAINAGE — THE SECRET WEAPON ===Built in 2018 with one of the best drainage systems in minor league baseball. Can absorb 1 inch of rain (64,000 gallons) and return to playable condition in 20-25 minutes.Source: Daily Herald, 2017 pre-opening report.=== RAIN-OUT CRITERIA (American Association / Impact Field) ===Per Chicago Dogs official policy: Games will NOT be postponed before start time except in extreme circumstances.American Association umpires determine delays/postponements once game begins.Actual stoppage triggers: Standing water ≥1/4 inch in batter's box/pitcher's rubber zone, field saturation preventing cleat grip, visibility below 500 feet, OR lightning within 8 miles.Official game: 5 innings completed (4.5 if home team leads). No game: Fewer than 5 innings, cannot resume — must be replayed.=== VERDICT ===Rain-out probability at Impact Field: LOW.- Rosemont is 20+ miles north of the primary storm zone- Severe threat: Virtually zero- ~20% POP in the NWS hourly forecast (8 in 10 scenarios = no rain during game)- If a brief shower does clip the stadium, drainage allows resumption in ~25 min- Lightning within 8 miles is the most likely cause of any delay — and the storm track argues against itRECOMMENDATION: Go to the game. Bring a light rain jacket. Bring sunscreen. Wear comfortable shoes.=== SOURCES ===- NWS Chicago AFD: https://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=LOT&issuedby=LOT&product=AFD- NWS Hourly Forecast (Rosemont): https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?CityName=Rosemont&state=IL&site=LOT&textField1=41.9836&textField2=-87.8742&FcstType=digital- Chicago Dogs Rain Policy: https://thechicagodogs.com/explore-impact/policies/- Impact Field Drainage: Daily Herald, September 2017- CBS Chicago morning forecast: https://www.cbsnews.com/chicago/news/chicago-weather-first-alert-weather/Tags: weather, Chicago Dogs, Impact Field, Rosemont, game day forecast, rain delay, baseball weather, NWS ChicagoBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/weather-with-enthusiasm--4911017/support.Weather with Enthusiasm is produced by Kol Simcha Productions.New episodes drop daily (B'N)— a morning forecast at 7 AM and historical deep dives Tuesdays and Thursdays. Contact: [email protected] content is thoroughly researched and factually verified. Chicago Weather Deep Dive — Heat Dome vs. Thunderstorm SeasonWeek of July 5–11, 2026 | Weather With Enthusiasm🌡️ WHAT JUST HAPPENED: THE HEAT DOME RECAPFrom June 29 through July 4, a powerful upper-level ridge of high pressure locked over the central and eastern US, producing Chicago's most significant heat event in years. Five consecutive days with highs in the low-to-mid 90s. Dew points reached 74–76°F — what NWS meteorologist Brett Borchardt called "air you can wear." Heat index values hit 100–108°F. Overnight lows stayed near 80°F in the city — the most dangerous aspect, preventing the body from recovering from daytime heat stress. Extreme Heat Warnings were in effect for multiple consecutive days.🌩️ WHAT BROKE THE HEATUpper-level short-wave troughs (dips in the jet stream) eroded the ridge late in the week. July 4 storms were organized around a Mesoscale Convective Vortex (MCV) — a spinning mid-level circulation leftover from overnight storm clusters. Precipitable water (PWAT) approached 2" (exceptionally high for Chicago). MUCAPE reached ~3,000 J/kg (extreme instability). Rain rates exceeded 2–4"/hr. Flash flooding across Kane, DuPage, Cook, Will, and Lake (IN) counties.📋 NWS CHICAGO AFD — KEY TAKEAWAYSSource: NWS Chicago/Romeoville AFD issued 6:45 PM CDT Sat Jul 4 2026 — Forecasters Borchardt & Yack☀️ WEEK AHEAD FORECAST• Sunday July 5: Isolated storms south of I-80, far less coverage. Highs upper 70s–low 80s. Moderate swim risk (2–4 ft lake waves).• Monday July 6: Mostly dry, high pressure building. Highs low-to-mid 80s. Very pleasant.• Tuesday July 7: Dry and warmer, mid-to-upper 80s. Southerly winds increase moisture.• Wednesday July 8: WATCH THIS DAY — increasing instability, storm chances return. Highs upper 80s to near 90.• Thursday July 9 – Friday July 10: More active pattern, storm chances increase. West-southwest flow returns. Upper 80s to near 90.🔥 HEAT DOME QUESTION: Will it return? Not in its extreme form next week. The pattern is rebuilding toward above-normal warmth with moisture return, but current guidance does not support a repeat of the extreme heat index values of late June/early July. The brief quiet window Sun–Tue is your best weather of the next 10 days. Temperatures return to upper 80s–low 90s by Wed–Fri with storm chances — not record-breaking heat, but still above normal with humidity.🏙️ LAKE MICHIGAN'S ROLEWith onshore northeast winds this weekend, lakefront neighborhoods will be 8–12°F cooler than inland areas at peak afternoon heating. If you can get to the lakefront Mon–Tue, those are the most comfortable days in the metro.🌡️ CLIMATE CONTEXTChicago's urban heat island effect amplifies heat waves — concrete, asphalt, and steel absorb solar radiation and re-radiate it overnight, preventing rural-style cooling. The 1995 Chicago heat wave (700+ deaths) occurred under similar pattern conditions. The city's cooling center network, check-in systems, and emergency protocols have expanded significantly since 1995 — but they only work when people use them.⚠️ SAFETY RESOURCES• NWS Chicago: weather.gov/chicago• NOAA Weather App: Free, includes Wireless Emergency Alerts• Cook County Cooling Centers: cookcountyil.gov• Signs of heat stroke: confusion, hot dry skin, no sweating — call 911 immediately---Morning forecasts every day at 7 AM on Spreaker, plus a historical weather deep-dive every Tuesday and Thursday at 7 AM CDT. Fort Yukon Alaska is a town of just 580 people. Some say that there is no road to civilization in that a person needs an airplane or a boat to be able to get to main civilization. I've never been there so I can't say if that's true or not. Regardless however temperatures are forecasted to reach heat advisory criteria for the next few days. That's something that we speak about in this episode. We do touch upon climate change because heat in the Arctic is something which impacts the global temperature more significantly than any other part of the world. We briefly explain that. But the main focus is on the weather the heat in Alaska and then a very significant thunderstorm complex as forecast is a develop in the Midwest tomorrow night.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/weather-with-enthusiasm--4911017/support.Weather with Enthusiasm is produced by Kol Simcha Productions.New episodes drop daily (B'N)— a morning forecast at 7 AM and historical deep dives Tuesdays and Thursdays. Contact: [email protected] content is thoroughly researched and factually verified.
