משיחת יום ד' פ' נצבים-וילך, כ' אלול ה'תשכ"ט, להעסקניות ("ליידיס אָקזילערי") דהמוסדות "תומכי תמימים" ו"בית רבקה" ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=20-08-2026 Synopsis The Alter Rebbe illustrates the unique quality of the month of Elul with the parable of a king who leaves his royal palace and goes out to the field, where he receives everyone with a pleasant countenance and where everyone can ask him for whatever they desire. He emphasizes that afterward, the people follow the king back to the city, but once the king reaches the palace, only select individuals can obtain an audience with him, and only after extensive preparation etc. Similarly, Elul is the one opportunity in the year when every Jew – even if one feels that until a moment ago he was still in the “field” and has not yet internalized the fact that it is the month of Elul – can stand face to face with Hashem and ask Him for a good year, and Hashem receives them with a pleasant countenance and smiling face and accepts their requests. Since you are involved in Hashem’s work of spreading Yiddishkeit and supporting educational institutions, etc. – may it be Hashem’s will that you be blessed with a good and sweet year, among the entire Jewish people, especially those who are in Eretz HaKodesh, and may we very soon merit the true and complete Redemption through Moshiach Tzidkeinu.Excerpt from sichah of Wednesday, Parashas Nitzavim-Vayelech, 20 Elul 5729 – to the Ladies Auxiliary of Tomchei Temimim and Bais Rivkah For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=20-08-2026 לזכות ר' אברהם יוסף וזוגתו מרת חוה שושנה שיחיו בויארסקי לכבוד יום הנישואין שלהם ז' אלוללברכה והצלחה בכל הענינים ‏בגשמיות וברוחניות

Moreover, Hashem shows him “a pleasant countenance” and “a smiling face,” and waits for a Jew to approach Him with his requests etc. – all of which gives him the strength to carry out the service of the month of Elul. (2) The daily Chumash for Wednesday of Parashas Ki Seitzei states, “That which issues from your lips you must keep and fulfill”: When a Jew keeps “that which proceeds from his lips” during Modeh Ani at the beginning of the day, it has an effect on his behavior the entire day.Sichah of Wednesday, parashas Ki Seitzei, 6 Elul 5739 – to the campers of camp Emunah For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=19-08-2026

One of the reasons for the prohibition of shaatnez is that wool comes from a living animal, while linen comes from a plant, and they should not be mixed. In terms of a person’s Divine service: There is one mode of service for those on the level of plant life (the beginning of one’s spiritual service), and another for those who have already reached the level of animal life or human life. The prohibition of shaatnez teaches that they should not be mixed; rather, each person must fulfill his service in accordance with his own level. The same applies within a person’s own service: There are some things one must actively perform and draw himself to (the positive mitzvos) and some things from which one must refrain and distance himself (the negative mitzvos), and the two should not be mixed. Despite a common misconception, the prohibition of shaatnez applies even to women, and, based on the Minchas Chinuch, even the prohibition against dressing a child in shaatnez clothing is not merely a part of the general obligation of chinuch, but part of the Biblical law of shaatnez itself.Excerpt from sichah of Tuesday, parashas Ki Seitzei, 1st day of Rosh Chodesh Elul 5744 – to the campers of Gan Yisroel and Camp Emunah For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=18-08-2026 לזכות מרת שיינא בת חנה שתחי' ליום ההולדת שלה ה' אלוללשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

ג' חלקים מהתוועדות כ"ף מנחם-אב ה'תשל"ו ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=17-08-2026 Synopsis The final Mishna in Chullin states: “A person may not take the mother bird with the offspring even in order to purify a metzora. And if regarding an easy mitzvah that costs an issar, the Torah says [in sheini of parashas Ki Seitzei]: ‘That it may be well with you and that you may prolong your days,’ how much more so regarding the more demanding mitzvos of the Torah.” Seemingly, it would make sense to allow taking the mother for use as the living bird in the purification process, because that would last only a few moments, after which it would be sent away? The explanation is as follows: Because both mitzvos express compassion (sending away the mother bird and restoring the metzora to his home), when they coincide, human reasoning (which is influenced by the evil-inclination) would dictate giving precedence to showing compassion for a human being (purifying the metzora) over showing compassion for an animal (sending away the mother bird). Therefore, “in order to subdue one’s inclination,” the Torah commands the opposite: “A person may not take the mother bird with the offspring even in order to purify a metzora.” And this explains the connection between the two clauses in the Mishna: Since the first part of the Mishna emphasizes how easy the mitzvah of sending away the mother bird is (because both the mind and heart support it), the Mishnah continues: “And if regarding an easy mitzvah…the Torah says: ‘That it may be well with you and you may prolong your days,’ how much more so regarding the more severe mitzvos of the Torah.”3 excerpts from farbrengen of 20 Menachem-Av 5736 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=17-08-2026 לזכות גולדא בת פריידא שתחי' ליום ההולדת שלה ד' אלול - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

ב' חלקים משיחת יום ד' פ' שופטים, ד' אלול ה'תשמ"ה, להתלמידים ולהתלמידות דמחנות קיץ יומיים – "צבאות השם" – שיחיו ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=16-08-2026 Synopsis The Alter Rebbe illustrates the significance of the month of Elul with the parable of a king in the field: “Before he enters the city the townspeople go out to greet him and welcome him in the field…Similarly, by way of analogy, during the month of Elul they go out to receive the light of Hashem’s face,” and “when he goes to the city, they follow after him” until they reach the palace. This idea is emphasized particularly among members of Tzivos Hashem: although, as soldiers in Hashem’s Army, their connection to Hashem is apparent all year long, even in their eating, drinking and sleeping etc. (because they recite a bracha over their food etc.), there is nevertheless a difference between the time spent engaging in Torah and mitzvos, and the time spent eating and drinking. But in the month of Elul, the King is with them even when they are “in the field” (i.e. engaged in mundane matters). The sounding of the shofar during the month of Elul reminds us of the renewed coronation of the King on Rosh Hashanah.2 excerpts from sichah of Wednesday, parashas Shoftim, 4 Elul 5745 – to day camp children For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=16-08-2026 לזכות חיים לוי יצחק הכהן בן רוזה חנה שי' ליום ההולדת שלו ג' אלול – לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובותנדבת אביו ‏ר' אברהם הכהן שי'‏

Similarly, although the verse states, “How will Yaakov (the Jewish people, who are compared to the moon) arise, for he is small,” (especially young children, who are small in the literal sense), and although they are in exile (“night”), nevertheless Hashem grants them the strength to illuminate the entire world and to increase in light from day to day. They do this through the “lamp of a mitzvah and light of Torah is light,” including by “appointing judges and officers” at one’s own “gates” to ensure that no undesirable influences enter through them. In this way they inspire other children – even at the other end of the world – to conduct themselves this way, too. Especially during the month of Elul, when “the King is in the field”: Even when the Jewish people are in the “field” of exile because “Tzion is plowed like a field,” Hashem is with them, and “In the light of the King’s countenance there is life.” By carrying out these directives, we merit the fulfillment of the promise that the Jewish people “are destined to be renewed like the moon” – and it will happen now.Excerpt from sichah of Tuesday, parashas Shoftim, 2nd day of Rosh Chodesh Elul 5741 – to the campers of Gan Yisroel and Camp Emunah For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=14-08-2026

This is the unique quality of the revelation of the Thirteen Attributes of Mercy during Elul as compared with their revelation during the rest of the year: in Elul, the revelation relates not only to one’s physical life but also to the life of the soul. Seemingly, being that these are such lofty spiritual levels, how is it possible for every Jew to attain them, especially being that the days of Elul are ordinary weekdays? But the maamar explains that it is specifically during these ordinary weekdays that the King Himself comes to every Jew, even to those who are “in the field,” and whoever desires may approach Him. Moreover, the Torah pleads with, commands, and promises every Jew, even those in the lowly spiritual state of a “desert,” that “From there you will seek Hashem, your G-d, and you will find Him…” – referring to the service of teshuvah.2 excerpts from sichah of Motzaei Shabbos parashas Re’eh, Mevorchim Elul 5739 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=13-08-2026

Moreover, when he comes to the Beis Hamikdash (on a festival) he is allowed to join in the service of the other korbanos during that time (see Rashi). The lesson for the spiritual Sanctuary within every Jew is that when one’s spirit inspires him to undertake a particular form of Divine service – even if that task would ordinarily have been performed by someone else – he is granted the privilege of doing it himself.Excerpt from sichah of Wednesday, second day of Rosh Chodesh Elul 5747 – to summer campers For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=12-08-2026 לע”נ מרת יהודית בת ר' נתן ע"ה פרידמאן, ליום היארצייט שלה כ"ט מנחם-אב. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

And this is a Jew’s mission – to turn every aspect of this world into a true home for Hashem. He empowers us to do so in every place and time; whether on an ordinary weekday or on a day like Yom Kippur, every Jew can bring to fruition the verse, “I will dwell among them” – in a way that resembles the revelation of the Divine Presence in the Holy of Holies on Yom Kippur through the service of the Ketores offered by the Kohen Gadol.2 excerpts from sichah of Monday night, parashas Pinchas, 15 Tammuz 5746 – in Yechidus Klalis for out-of-town visitors For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=11-08-2026

The lesson from the 27th day of the month: The yetzer-hara may try to frighten a Jew by telling him that he is outnumbered by those who don’t follow the Torah or don’t belong to the Jewish people etc. But today’s Tehillim begins: “A Song of ascents. I have called out to Hashem in my distress, and He answered me.” Meaning, even when a Jew is in a state of distress, he must not be discouraged because Hashem is with him, and it is absolutely certain that if one calls, He answers. And this is so certain that it is expressed in a “song” and “ascent” – joyously and rising higher and higher. Similarly, even in the darkness of exile (the greatest possible distress), when we call out by singing Moshiach Now, “He answers us” with the coming of Moshiach Tzidkeinu.Excerpt from sichah of Monday, parashas Shoftim, 27 Menachem-Av – to Tzivos Hashem For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=10-08-2026 לזכות יוסף יצחק בן רחל לאה שי' שפירא ליום ההולדת שלו כ"ז מנחם-אב – לשנת ברכה והצלחה ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

One must be careful not to speak harshly about Jews chas v’shalom, especially in the month of Elul, when one should judge Jews favorably so that he himself will be judged favorably, especially one who needs Hashem to overlook his conduct of chasing after honor and “pursuing bribes” throughout the year etc. Yet they specifically choose the month of Elul to speak harshly of Jews, taking advantage of an occasion when people gather to be inspired etc. And if one argues that Hashem has assigned him this task of delivering rebuke – he should learn from a story the Tzemach Tzedek writes in Derech Mitzvosecha: Reb Mendel Barer was gifted with oratory skills, and when he traveled to Jewish communities, he would be asked to deliver mussar. But he would agree only on condition that he was paid for it. He explained: Really, there is no basis for rebuking Jews, who are the only child of Hashem. Nevertheless, since he has an obligation to support his family, and Hashem arranged by Hashgacha Pratis that his livelihood should come through delivering musar, he has no choice but to do so. But to wait and look forward to the month of Elul so that one can rebuke other Jews is unheard of.Excerpt from sichah of Sunday, parashas Re’eh, 21 Menachem-Av 5744 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=09-08-2026 לע”נ ר' משה ב"ר ניסן ע"ה ליום היארצייט שלו כ"ה מנחם-אב. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.נדבת בנו ר' ניסן שי' פרידמן

Since “my Beloved is mine” depends upon the first part of the verse, “I am my Beloved’s,” the days leading up to this Shabbos should be utilized properly. The connection between parashas Re’eh (“See…”) and the Redemption is that when Moshiach comes, we will study Torah in a manner seeing, as it is written: “…and your eyes will see your Teacher.” We will conclude by appointing everyone as a shliach for tzedakah, which hastens the Redemption, as the verse states, “Tzion will be redeemed with justice, and her captives with tzedakah.” May it be Hashem’s will that we immediately merit the fulfillment of the verse, “See, I am setting before you today....”Sichah of Thursday night, 24 Menachem-Av 5749 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=07-08-2026 לזכות חי' שרה בת נינה שתחי' וויינבוים ליום ההולדת שלה כ"ד מנחם-אבלשנת ברכה והצלחה‏, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות*לזכות מרת שושנה בת גיטל שתחי' ליום ההולדת שלה כ"ד מנחם-אב - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

When the Jewish people are united, even if their spiritual state is not as it should be, they are victorious in battle, both in physical battle and in the battle against the yetzer hara, and moreover, their victory is such that the whole possibility of war is precluded from the outset. This Time of Favor is also associated with the preparation for the month of Elul, when “The King is in the field,” meaning Hashem is close to a Jew even if he is in the spiritual state of a “field,” and Hashem’s closeness causes a fundamental change in one’s overall conduct (as the Alter Rebbe writes in Likkutei Torah on parashas Re’eh).Excerpt from sichah of Thursday, parashas Re’eh, 27 Menachem-Av 5741 (designated a partial fast day) – after Mincha For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=06-08-2026 לע”נ הרה"ח התמים ר' אליעזר דניאל ב"ר שמואל יעקב ע"ה מייערס ליום היארצייט שלו כ"ג מנחם-אב. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

משיחת יום ד' דפ' ראה, כ"ב מנחם-אב ה'תשמ"ו, להילדים והילדות דמחנה קיץ "גן ישראל" "ואמונה" שיחיו ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=05-08-2026 Synopsis This gathering is taking place after you have spent time in summer camp, whose simple purpose is for the body to relax and gain additional strength, but whose inner purpose is for the body’s health to impact the soul’s health. Accordingly, after camp, you should increase in Torah and mitzvos etc. The lesson from revi’i of parashas Re’eh is as follows: The theme of Re’eh (“See”) is that every Jew sees that everything he possesses, and everything in the world, exists only because Hashem “places it before you.” This is emphasized in today’s Chumash, which begins with the verse, “You are children of Hashem your G-d”: Every Jew must conduct himself as befitting a child of the King – eating only kosher food (as today’s Chumash goes on to describe) etc. In this way we merit the fulfillment of the verse at the end of the parashah, “All your males must appear before Hashem your G-d in the place that He will choose” – in the third Beis Hamikdash, which will be built speedily in our days.Excerpt from sichah of Wednesday, parashas Re’eh, 22 Menachem-Av 5746, to the campers of Camp Gan Yisroel and Camp Emunah For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=05-08-2026 לזכות החתן אוריאל מאיר בן דבורה בריינדלוהכלה מרת טובה רבקה בת גילה עלקהשיחיו רבנולרגל נישואיהם בשעה טובה ומוצלחתכ"א מנחם-אב ה'תשפ"ונדבת אחיו שי'

(2) A general lesson from the third day of the week, when “It was good” was said twice, is the principle of “good for Heaven and good for mankind”: a Jew must occupy himself with Torah and mitzvos (“good for Heaven”), and also help other Jews around him (“good for mankind”). And a lesson from shelishi of parashas Re’eh in particular, which warns the Jewish people not to imitate the nations surrounding them: Although the Jewish people are “the fewest of all the nations,” they must not learn from the ways of the nations. Hashem placed the Jewish people among the other nations in order for them to reveal the power of their simple faith that “You have chosen us from among all the nations,” and in this way they merit Hashem’s blessings, as well as the respect of the nations, as Hashem has blessed us in this country.Excerpts from sichos of (1) Tuesday, 23 Menachem-Av 5744, and (2) Tuesday, 26 Menachem-Av 5745, to Kollel Tiferes Zekeinim Levi Yitzchok For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=04-08-2026 לזכות ר' שניאור זלמן בן חוה לאה וזוגתו מרת שיינא בת חנה שיחיו ליום הנישואין שלהם ביום כ"א מנחם-אבלברכה והצלחה בכל הענינים לאויוש"ט*לזכות שטערנא שרה בת חי'ה רחל שתחי' ליום ההולדת שלה כ"א מנחם-אבלשנת ברכה והצלחה רבה ומופלגה בכל בגו"ר מתוך בריאות נכונה ומנוחת הנפש והגוףנדבת בעלה ר' חיים ברוך שי' אלבסקי

משיחת יום ב' דפ' ראה, כ' מנחם-אב ה'תשמ"ו ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=03-08-2026 Synopsis Lately we have witnessed shocking things in the world, in the barbaric ways people treat one another (including at times among Jews) etc. This is yet another sign that the time for the coming of Moshiach has already arrived, as the verse states in Daniel regarding the end of days, “Many will be clarified, whitened, and purified, and the wicked will pervert, and all the wicked will not understand, but the wise will understand”: At that time all will see who is wicked and who is “wise,” and this clarity will benefit the wicked, because as long as they have doubts as to whether they have in fact done something wrong, they will not do teshuvah. (Moreover, some Jews have no “doubts” at all – to the contrary, they stubbornly persist in their behavior and encourage other Jews to follow suit.) But because “None will remain banished from Him,” the truth of their behavior will be made clear to all, and when everyone sees who they really are (“They will be clarified and whitened…”), they, too, will see their true state, and this will inspire them to do teshuvah.Excerpt from sichah of Monday, parashas Re’eh, 20 Menachem-Av 5746 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=03-08-2026 לזכות מנחם מענדל בן נחמה דינה שי' ליום ההולדת שלו כ"א מנחם-אב - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

But the waning in fact represents an increase in bittul, culminating in the ultimate bittul just before the new moon (“venifkadta”), which is followed by the moon’s rebirth and renewal (“ki yipaked moshavecha”). There is a custom to begin wishing one another to be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year beginning on the 15th of Av. Meaning, aside from the fact that “I will bless those who bless you” in general, there is a special emphasis in this regard during this time of year. When speaking to other Jews during the month of Elul about teshuvah, it must be done in way of Torah, “whose ways are pleasant ways” – one must speak of positive things and of blessing etc., and one accomplishes more this way. 20 Av is one of the days on which the Wood Offering was brought in the Beis Hamikdash. The wood was placed in the Wood Chamber to be used by those who did not have wood of their own – an expression of Ahavas Yisroel.Excerpt from sichah of Monday, parashas Re’eh, 20 Menachem-Av 5746 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=02-08-2026 לע”נ מרת טאבא נעכא בת ר' וואלף הלוי ע"ה רוס ליום היארצייט שלה י"ט מנחם-אב. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

When they came to a town, they would ask to be introduced to the guardians of the city, and the townspeople would call for the soldiers and others responsible for maintaining order and security. Rabbi Ami and Rabbi Asi would say to them, “These are the guardians of the city? On the contrary – they are the destroyers of the city!” The guardians of the city are the “scholars and students who study, review, and preserve the Torah day and night…” Although the Torah teaches that “We do not rely on a miracle,” and therefore a city must have guards etc., nevertheless, Rabbi Ami and Rabbi Asi, as the emissaries of Rabbi Yehudah HaNasi, teach that if the first answer to the question, “Who are the guardians of the city?” is the watchmen who operate under the laws of nature etc., this approach destroys the city. Rather, the protection of the city must be based upon and guided by the true guardians – the teachings of the Mishnah, Gemara, and Shulchan Aruch. Only then will the natural measures build and protect rather than destroy. The same applies to the “small city” (the physical body): Although one must safeguard one’s physical health by eating, drinking, and the other natural measures prescribed by the Torah, nevertheless, a person’s day must be founded upon and guided by Torah.Excerpt from sichah of 19 Kislev 5727 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=31-07-2026

The difference is that the first paragraph says “You shall speak of them when you sit in your house…”, meaning that a person himself must “speak of them,” while the second paragraph says, “You shall teach them to your children to speak of them when you sit in your house…” meaning you must teach the children to “speak of them.” In other words, even if someone has already trained himself to study Torah, and he serves as a living example for his children, nevertheless he must devote special effort to bringing his children to do the same: “From when the child begins to speak,” he should be taught “to speak of them and not of idle matters,” not only in school, but also “when you sit in your house….” This caution against idle talk applies to girls as well, if one wants his daughter to remain a faithful daughter of the Jewish people etc. And even someone who is on such a level that he still needs to be cautioned to “Take care lest…you turn astray and serve alien gods” is told, in that very same paragraph, to occupy himself with educating his children in this fashion.

ב' חלקים משיחת אור ליום ד' דפ' עקב, ט"ו באב ה'תשמ"ט ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=29-07-2026 Synopsis The Mishnah states: “There were no festivals for the Jewish people like the Fifteenth of Av...” The reason is because the Fifteenth of Av is the day on which “The moon is in its full state,” an expression of the completeness of the Jewish people, who are likened to the moon and whose calendar is based on the moon etc. The advantage of the 15th of Av over the 15th of Nissan and Tishrei is as follows: Nissan is associated with the service of tzaddikim, while Tishrei is associated with the service of teshuvah. Therefore, the 15th of Tishrei possesses an advantage over the 15th of Nissan, because teshuvah possesses the advantage of an ascent that follows a descent. Similarly, it is understood that the 15th of Av, which follows the greatest descent of all – the destruction of the Beis Hamikdash and the Holy of Holies – is the greatest ascent. In connection with the 15th of Av, the Gemara states: “From this point onward, one who adds will add,” meaning that from the 15th of Av onward, one who increases his nighttime Torah study adds life to his life (Rashi). Accordingly, one should resolve to increase in Torah study (at night) and to arrange farbrengens in connection with the 15th of Av and the Shabbos that follows it.2 excerpts from sichah of Tuesday night, parashas Ekev, 15 Av 5749 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=29-07-2026 לזכות ר' זאב הכהן וזוגתו מרת פריידא הינדא שיחיו טייטלבוים ליובל החתונה שלהם ביום חמשה עשר באבלברכה והצלחה בכל הענינים ‏בגו"ר*לעילוי נשמת הרבנית גיטל לאה בת הרב ישראל ע"ה סלונים ליום היארצייט שלה חמשה עשר באבת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

The beautiful among them would say, ‘Set your eyes on beauty, for a wife is only for beauty.’ Those of distinguished lineage among them would say, ‘Set your eyes on family’…The wealthy among them would say, ‘Set your eyes on those who possess wealth’…The ugly among them would say, ‘Take your acquisition for the sake of Heaven.’” (The Gemara Yerushalmi mentions only two groups: the beautiful (which includes the beautiful, those of distinguished lineage, and the wealthy), and the ugly.) Regarding “the wealthy”: A young woman at the age of shidduchim had no wealth of her own. Since “All the honor of the king’s daughter is within,” Jewish girls did not go out to earn money before marriage; rather they were “wealthy” because their family was wealthy. The general introduction given by all of the groups was: “Young man, please lift up your eyes and see,” meaning, look upward and focus not on what is superficial but on what is fundamental, and then you will merit the match suited for you. Based on this we can also understand how this was appropriate for the day of Yom Kippur. We can also understand why there was a group who considered themselves “ugly”: In their humility, they felt they had nothing of their own. Rather, they attributed everything they had to Hashem.2 excerpts from sichah of Sunday night, parashas Ekev, 15 Av 5743 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=28-07-2026

Because although one must “Be wholehearted with Hashem your G-d,” meaning one must serve Hashem with all one’s faculties, including the intellect in the head and the emotions in the heart, nevertheless intellect and emotion are inherently limited. Divine service can only be unlimited when one is permeated with kabbolas ol, through which he becomes attached to Hashem, Who is Infinite. This form of service is especially important in the era of the Footsteps of Moshiach” (ikvesa d’Meshicha), because in order to overcome the exile, which is called “heels,” one must serve Hashem with the “heel” of holiness.Sichah of 20 Menachem-Av 5721 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=27-07-2026

(Unlike the clouds that killed the snakes and scorpions etc., which were essential.) The question was asked: Seemingly, the Clouds of Glory also served an essential purpose, as the verse states (at the beginning of parashas Ekev), “Your garment did not wear out…,” on which Rashi explains: “The Clouds of Glory would rub their clothes  and press them as is done with laundered clothes, and even their young, as they grew, their clothes grew with them like a turtle’s ‘clothing’ [i.e. its shell] which  grows with it.” The obvious answer is that wearing pressed garments was not essential, but merely a matter of honor, for the following reasons: (1) After the clouds departed, the women had the option of pressing the garments themselves if they wished. (2) We know that the Jewish people took an enormous quantity of clothing with them when the left Egypt. Therefore, if any clothing became worn out after the departure of the Clouds of Glory, they could be replaced by those additional clothes taken from Egypt. (3) The Jewish people had the option of buying new clothing from the inhabited areas they passed by on their journey. As for the issue of the clothing growing with the children, Rashi states clearly that it was like the growth of a turtle’s shell, which happens on its own – it had nothing to do with clouds.2 excerpts from sichah of Tuesday night, 15 Menachem-Av 5739 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=26-07-2026 לע”נ הרה"ח ר' ראובן ב"ר תנחום וזוגתו מרת רבקה בת ר' יחיאל זלמן ע"ה דונין ליום היארצייט שלהם י"א מנחם-אב. ‏ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

The clear lesson for the present era is as follows: there are pessimists who make calculations based on the natural order and conclude that relying on this person or that person has failed and shown that “the kindness of the nations is sin” etc. But one must know that when “I trust in You,” then there will certainly be redemption, and it will be “with peace,” to the extent that “the many were with me” – even “Avshalom’s men davened for Dovid’s victory.” In a person’s Divine service: “Dovid” refers to the yetzer tov, while “Avshalom’s men” refers to the yetzer hara (and those struggling with it). When one trusts in Hashem, he first undergoes an inner transformation, so that the yetzer-hara etc. is transformed to good. Then, this also affects what is outside oneself and the Jewish people – thereby freeing them from all worries, distractions, and threats from the seventy nations and everything associated with them, so that everything is “redeemed with peace” to the point of visible, tangible joy. (Like the law regarding the joy of a festival, which must be experienced even by the physical body).Excerpt from sichah of 19 Kislev 5732 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=24-07-2026 לזכות מנחם מענדל בן דבורה לאה שי' גורארי' ליום ההולדת שלו י"א מנחם-אב - לשנת ברכה והצלחה‏, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות*לזכות ישראל בן נחמה דינה שי' ליום ההולדת שלו י"א מנחם-אב - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

No matter what the “explanations” may be for the lack of Ahavas Yisroel, one must know that the lack of Ahavas Yisroel affects the Nasi of our generation, who sees the truth and desires only the genuine good of every individual. What this means practically is that one must listen to the mara d’asra, even if one does not agree with him, and from now onward, peace should dwell among them. If in general we are obligated to “love truth and peace,” then all the more so in places that have received a special blessing from the Nasi of our generation. But he is pleading: “Stand ready, all of you,” to receive the blessings in a visible, revealed manner, the vessel for which is ahavas chinam. And the truth is that love for another Jew is not “chinam” at all, chas v’shalom, but one hundred percent justified. The matter depends only on one’s will and on preparing to welcome Moshiach Tzidkeinu, who is waiting for the Jewish people to complete the preparations for the Redemption, which include, first and foremost, genuine love between Jews.3 excerpts from sichah of 26 Tishrei 5744, in Yechidus for residents of Kfar Chabad and Nachalas Har Chabad For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=23-07-2026

For example, the first two of the Aseres Hadibros (in revi’i of parashas Va’eschanan): (1) “I am Hashem your G-d…” doesn’t only mean that one must believe in the existence of Hashem and that He took the Jewish people out of Egypt, etc. but also that one must believe that “I am Hashem your G-d” – “your strength and your life-force” – meaning that, while a person is obligated to put in his own effort, it is Hashem who gives him all his faculties, intellect, emotions, and the ability to succeed. (2) “You shall have no other gods….” Doesn’t only mean that one mut not make “gods of silver and gods of gold” etc. in the physical sense, but also that one must not to make an “idol” out of money, gold, or honor, and not even out of one’s own abilities – because all of these are nothing more than “an axe in the hand of the woodcutter.”Excerpt from sichah of 13 Sivan 5738 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=22-07-2026

As the Midrash states, “A lion arose…and destroyed… in order that a lion should come… and build Ariel.” Thus, when one sees that not only has Moshiach still not come, but that there has been another of exile, it is in order to give the Jewish people additional strength in their heartfelt demand that the Redemption come immediately and literally. The connection between 7 Menachem-Av and the Redemption is especially emphasized when it is tied to giving tzedakah. Although we find that nighttime is not generally the time designated for giving tzedakah, nevertheless, when the poor person himself is standing before you and he stretches out his hand, it is obvious that one must give him immediately – and especially since the outstretched hand and the plea of this “poor person” has already been ongoing for nineteen hundred years. First one experiences his own personal redemption, and then, when many individual redemptions are combined, the Redemption of the entire Jewish people occurs. From this we learn that everything a Jew does in thought, speech, and action, to transform the golah into geulah plays an important role in hastening the true and complete Redemption. This is especially so in light of the Rambam’s ruling that a person should always view himself and the entire world as equally balanced, and with just one mitzvah, he “tips the balance...of the entire world to the side of merit and brings salvation and deliverance to himself and to them.”Excerpt from sichah of Thursday, parashas Vayeshev, 19 Kislev 5745 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=20-07-2026 לע"נ הרה"ח הר"ר יואל ב"ר רפאל נחמן הכהן קאהן ליום היארצייט שלו ו' מנחם אב. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

By contrast, because non-Jews were given life only for a limited period of time, not only do their lives ultimately come to an end, but even the life itself is not true life (like a “deceiving river” that is not a true river because it stops flowing even once in seven years). Although the decree that “to dust you will return” applies to both Jews and non-Jews alike, that is only because of the need for free choice; therefore, it applies only to the soul’s descent into this physical world. But in Gan Eden, the truth is revealed: that they are alive forever because of their attachment to Hashem.2 excerpts from sichah of 20 Menachem-Av 5721. The purpose of the festival pilgrimage is that “All your males shall appear before the Master, Hashem” – to connect with Hashem. Similarly, every Jew makes a minor “festival pilgrimage” every day when he connects to Hashem by saying Modeh Ani in the morning. And this is the lesson from this mitzvah: one must not wait to fulfill his commitments in matters of Yiddishkeit until some later time or special date; rather, one should do fulfill them immediately upon the very first “festival pilgrimage” – the Modeh Ani recited every day.Excerpt from sichah of Thursday, parashas Nitzavim, 26 Elul 5745 – to N’shei u’Bnos Chabad. ועוד‏.‏ב' חלקים משיחת אור ליום ד' דפ' דברים, ר"ח מנחם-אב ה'תשמ"ט ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=14-07-2026 Synopsis (1) In a number of ways, Rosh Chodesh is considered like a Yom Tov, especially Rosh Chodesh of the fifth month, which contains the “Fast of the Fifth Month,” which will be transformed “into joy and gladness and happy festivals.” Since the descent associated with the Fast of the Fifth Month is the greatest descent among the four fasts mentioned in the verse, it is understood that the ascent resulting from it is likewise the greatest ascent – namely, the building of the third Beis Hamikdash. In order to hasten it, one should increase in “our deeds and our service,” especially in matters pertaining to the Nine Days. (2) Rosh Chodesh Menachem-Av is the day of yom hilula of Aharon HaKohen, who lived more than 120 years. Since the Mishna says, “Be among the disciples of Aharon,” this should bring long life and good years for every Jew in the literal sense, as souls in bodies etc. May it be Hashem’s will that the positive resolutions taken in these matters bring the Redemption immediately, literally right now!2 excerpts from sichah of Tuesday night, parashas Devarim, Rosh Chodesh Menachem-Av 5749 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=14-07-2026 לזכות פרימא בת פריידא שתחי' ליום ההולדת שלה כ"ט תמוז - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות*לזכות מושקא תחי' יוניק ליום ההולדת שלה כ"ט תמוז - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובותנדבת הורי' ר' דוד וזוגתו מרת חנה שיחיו יוניק

When these words come from the heart, they will enter the heart and accomplish their purpose – strengthening trust in Hashem and increasing Torah and mitzvos. And this is not just some explanation designed to calm people down; this is the reality: The Jewish people stand above the laws of nature, because they are “a people that will dwell alone.” And when the Jewish people stands firmly upon its foundation – “From their beginning I see them as mountain peaks, and I behold them as hills,” referring to the Avos and Imahos – they will proceed securely on their path etc. Likewise, these days should be utilized to increase in tzedakah, with every individual giving a coin or a few coins to tzedakah every morning, and giving double on Friday to account for Shabbos as well.Sichah of Thursday night, parashas Matos-Masei, Erev Rosh Chodesh Menachem-Av 5734 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=13-07-2026 לזכות מנוחה בת שיינא שתחי' ליום ההולדת שלה כ"ח תמוזלשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

When a person has learned and fulfilled everything it says in the previous 1,700 simanim of the Shulchan Aruch, only then one can even begin to think about administering rebuke and punishment, and even then he must question whether the desire to do so really comes from holiness…. On a deeper level: when one does a favor for a fellow Jew, he is certainly fulfilling the mitzvah of Ahavas Yisroel. By contrast, when he relates to another Jew harshly and with judgment, there is room for doubt; perhaps he is motivated by some personal desire or interest. The lesson is that, first and foremost, one must do an actual favor for every Jew, without examining their spiritual standing and condition. Only afterward can one speak words of rebuke and moral instruction, and only in this manner will those words be accepted and accomplish their purpose. As our Sages taught regarding Moshe’s words of rebuke to the Jewish people, “These are the words that Moshe spoke...” (as it says at the beginning of parashas Devarim): Moshe’s rebuke came only “after he had smitten Sichon...” – after first doing kindness and a favor for the Jewish people.Excerpt from sichah of 10 Shevat 5714 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=12-07-2026 לזכות בנציון מאיר הלוי בן חי' שרה שי' וויינבוים ליום הולדת שלו כ"ז תמוזלשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות‏

Similarly, in a spiritual sense, when a person commits a sin, his spiritual life force is diminished – it is a form of “killing.” However, it is an unintentional killing, because the person is tricked by the yetzer-hara who deceives him into thinking that the sin won’t separate him from G-dliness. Then, after the sin “The yetzer-hara rises up and accuses,” claiming to be the “blood avenger” and so on. Since this is a general and ongoing issue in Divine service, and one that will continue until the time when “the mitzvos will cease in the future era,” the appropriate remedy is the six perpetual mitzvos, which protect a person from the punishment of the blood avenger etc.2 excerpts from sichah of Purim 5718 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=10-07-2026 לע"נ מרת ציפא רחל בת ר' אלי'הו ע"ה קרינסקי ליום היארצייט שלה כ"ו תמוז. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.נדבת חתנה ובתה ר' זאב הכהן וזוגתו מרת פריידא הינדא שיחיו טייטלבוים

The reason they did not return is that they were no longer needed: (1) The people did not need protection from the sun’s heat, because Aharon’s passing occurred on Rosh Chodesh Av, when “the sun’s strength weakens.” (2) They did not need protection from the other nations because by now, after the defeat of the king of Arad and Sichon and Og etc., the nations feared the Jewish people even without the Clouds. (3) They did not need protection from the dangerous desert creatures because they had already left the desert, and were now on the eastern side of the Jordan river. (4) In general, the clouds also provided for their future needs (for example, by leveling the mountains ahead of them).3 excerpts from sichah of Motzaei Shabbos parashas Matos-Masei 5739 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=09-07-2026

We see this within the army itself, where there are soldiers on the front lines, and commanders who sit in a protected place far from the front lines and plan the war. Obviously, if the solders were to argue to a commander, “Will your brothers go to war while you sit here” (as it says in shishi of parashas Mattos), and in response the commander were to leave his planning and go out to the front, that would result in the opposite of victory. And the same applies in a broader sense: for the army and its soldiers to succeed in their mission, there must also be those engaged in Torah study and making the spiritual “plans.” Even the most advanced weapons will not help a soldier if he is not alive, and the soldier’s life depends on the Torah studied on his behalf (“for they are our life and the length of our days”); this is the soldier’s spiritual nourishment. And just as a soldier who flees from the battlefield is called a deserter, so too, one who leaves his post at the yeshivah to go and fight is not only not helping the cause, but on the contrary. Likewise, the success of Zevulun in his business affairs comes in the merit of the Torah study of Yissachar.Excerpt from sichah of 6 Tishrei 5728 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=08-07-2026

ב' חלקים משיחת י"ז בתמוז ה'תשמ"ז ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=07-07-2026 Synopsis We learn in today’s Rambam that any Kohen who has a blemish may not enter the Sanctuary, “whether it is a permanent blemish or a temporary blemish.” This teaches us a wondrous lesson about teshuvah: A person might say, “I will sin and then return.’” And although “he is not granted the opportunity to do teshuvah” (because it is the teshuvah that causes him to sin) nevertheless, because “If he pushed forcefully and overpowered his inclination and did teshuvah, his teshuvah is accepted,” a person might still commit a sin in reliance on his subsequent teshuvah. But this halachah teaches us that even a “temporary blemish” prevents him from entering the Sanctuary: Despite the fact that one intends to teshuvah later, and it is certain that he will do teshuvah, he must know that nevertheless, at this moment he cannot enter the Sanctuary and bring himself closer to Hashem. The fact that a moment later he will be able to enter the Sanctuary does not diminish the blemish and loss at this moment in the fact that he cannot. Therefore, even a temporary blemish must be totally avoided.2 excerpts from sichah of 17 Tammuz 5747 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=07-07-2026 לע"נ ר' משה ב"ר יהודה אריה לייב ע"ה דרוק ליום היארצייט שלו כ"ב תמוז. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

The explanation is as follow: The abovementioned halachah in Shulchan Aruch continues, “…unless one does so in the manner of teshuvah, where this affliction is beneficial for him” (and we must say that this benefit is also for his body), and it adds: “Therefore, it is permitted to fast in the context of teshuvah even for one who is unable to fast. And one who is able to fast is permitted even not in the context of teshuvah, but in order to cleanse his soul for Hashem…” (i.e. completing the atonement etc.). Chassidus adds that even this (teshuvah and cleansing of the soul) can be better accomplished by working with the body. (I do not want to call them “secular studies” because the truth is that such subjects should be put to use for holy purposes, such as understanding Torah-related measurements and calculations etc. Otherwise, as the Alter Rebbe says in Tanya, studying such subjects “clothes and defiles the Chochmah, Binah, and Daas of one’s Divine soul...” something very severe, as seen from the fact that impurity affects even a newborn child etc. On the other hand, since such studies exist, it is clear that they can be utilized for holiness or for earning a livelihood etc. But since a person is biased when it comes to his livelihood, one must find someone else to rule for him whether the study is something that defiles the soul or something permissible etc.) It is a necessary, vital, and a very serious matter to ensure that this free time during the summer is filled with holy studies and with Torah and mitzvos. Moreover, it is worthwhile to endeavor that children be sent to summer camps conducted in the spirit of Yiddishkeit, where the children remain in the camp atmosphere for an extended and uninterrupted period of time, the tremendous benefit of which is self-understood.Excerpt from sichah of 13 Tammuz 5742 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=05-07-2026 לע"נ הרה"ח ר' פנחס בן הרב יהושע ע"ה קארף ליום היארצייט שלו כ' תמוז. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.נדבת בנו ר' מנחם מעדל שי' קארף

Moreover, (2) What is the lesson for an ordinary person from the fact that “they were fulfilled in Rebbi and his sons,” when an ordinary person cannot compare to Rebbi and his sons? The explanation lies in the Mishna’s choice of title here – “in Rebbi and his sons” (rather than “in Rabbi Yehudah HaNasi and his sons” or “in Rabbeinu HaKadosh and his sons”) – which teaches us that anyone whose “Rebbi” is a Rabbeinu Hakadosh (by virtue of following in his ways) is included among “his sons” (“‘Your sons’ – this refers to students”), and therefore these seven qualities can be fulfilled in him as well. Additionally: anyone who is fit to teach others must be a “Rebbi” and involve himself in spreading Torah and Yiddishkeit (especially in light of the directive of the Nasi of our generation to spread Torah and Yiddishkeit even to those who do not understand Hebrew or Yiddish etc.). Then one is assured that all seven qualities, which are “becoming for the righteous and becoming for the world,” will be fulfilled in him, whether as a “Rebbi” or as “his sons,” depending on one’s level.2 excerpts from sichah of Motzaei Shabbos parashas Nitzavim 5738 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=03-07-2026 לזכות צבי אבא בן חנה שי' לרמן ליום הולדת שלו י"ט תמוז – לשנת ברכה והצלחה ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות נדבת משפחתו שי'

In the spiritual sense, this means depriving Jewish children of an education in Torah (which is “our life and the length of our days”) and mitzvos (of which it says, “and live by them”). The lesson is that everyone must do everything in his power, and with the fullest force, to “Establish strength out of the mouths of infants and nursing babies,” and thereby “put an end to enemy and avenger.” And already in these final moments of exile, “There will be light for all the Jewish people in their dwelling places,” and the promise will be fulfilled: “Kings will be your nursing fathers and their princesses your nursing mothers.” And “Action is the main thing”: Everyone must devote themselves this task of bringing every Jewish child to the Torah of Life from the moment he is born, and the summer days should be utilized for this purpose. This is the central point of Mivtza Chinuch that was discussed at recent farbrengens, and this leads to all the other mivtzoim etc.Excerpt from sichah of Tuesday, parashas Pinchas, 17 Tammuz 5740 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=02-07-2026

I will not place upon you” from the outset: Because every Jew is an agent of Hashem (and therefore is like Hashem Himself), they, too, can bring about the healing for this time of year in a way that prevents the illness from happening in the first place. And the way to bring healing is set forth in the verse, “Tzion will be redeemed with justice, and her captives with righteousness” – by increasing (particularly in public and with the participation of many) in Torah study and in giving tzedakah. And since “The world stands upon three things,” we should increase in tefillah as well, and all of this should be done with joy.Excerpt from sichah of 16 Tammuz 5735 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=01-07-2026

And who merits such daughters? Tzelofchad – who sacrificed himself by becoming “the one who gathered wood on Shabbos” “so that he would be put to death and others would see,” thereby clarifying the law of one who desecrates Shabbos – an act of mesiras-nefesh for the sake of a Jew who desecrates Shabbos! (Although, as the Acharonim explain, he did not actually desecrate Shabbos, nevertheless, in the eyes of the witnesses and the community it appeared to be a desecration of Shabbos etc.) Therefore, he did not lose his portion in the Land, and he merited that because of his daughters the section dealing with inheritance of the Land was added to the Torah. The lesson for Jewish women in our generation is that they must recognize the great ability, responsibility, and privilege they have been given, to strengthen and spread Yiddishkeit.Excerpt from sichah of 12 Tammuz 5715 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=30-06-2026 לע”נ הרב אורי עזרא ב"ר יוסף יהודה ע"ה ליום היארצייט שלו ט"ו תמוז. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.נדבת בנו ר' ישעי' ‏מנחם מענדל שי' ליפש

Do they think that the Egyptians did not have control over their mothers…Therefore the Holy One, blessed be He, affixed His name to them – a hei on one side and a yud on the other to say – to say: I attest to the fact that they are the sons of their fathers….” That is, Hashem Himself attests (using the first two letters of His Name) that throughout all 210 years of exile in Egypt, where they were the minority and where they were slaves, they nevertheless preserved their modesty; instead of changing their clothing and trying to imitate the Egyptians around them, they conducted themselves as Sarah, Rivkah, Rochel, and Leah had taught them. The lesson for Jewish women, especially at the beginning of the summer, is that there is an equal obligation upon every woman (just as when the Jewish people were counted, each person counted as one) not to alter their mode of dress or their conduct at all, despite being in exile etc., and this way, even before the Redemption, Hashem will attest by His Name to the proper conduct of Jewish women.Excerpt from sichah of Sunday, parashas Bamidbar, 28 Iyar 5728, to N’shei U’bnos Chabad For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=29-06-2026 לזכות מרדכי בן חי'ה ריסא שי' ונגר ליום ההולדת שלו י"ד תמוז - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות.נדבת אביו ר' שמואל שי' ונגר

And since a chossid is “a lamp to illuminate,” any increase in one’s own service will certainly lead to an increase in the service of those around him as well. It is worthwhile and proper to continue and expand the farbrengens of the days of liberation through 13, 14, and 15 Tammuz (which are weekdays, on which means not allowed on Shabbos may be used, forming a “threefold cord.” And even better would be for every individual to accept upon himself three things for each of the three days (three times three) because “A threefold cord is not quickly severed.” We conclude with appointing everyone as a shliach for tzedakah, which is associated with the redemption of 12 Tammuz, just as the redemption of 19 Kislev has a particular connection to tzedakah. This also relates to the beginning of parashah, where Pinchas was granted the Kehuna for himself and for his descendants after him; this is something attainable for every Jew, as the Rambam writes: “Not the tribe of Levi alone, but every person…is sanctified as holy of holies.”Excerpt from sichah of Sunday, parashas Pinchas, 13 Tammuz 5749 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=28-06-2026 לזכות חנה מושקא בת שטערנא שרה שתחי' ליום ההולדת שלה י"ב תמוזלשנת ברכה והצלחה רבה ומופלגה בכל בגו"ר מתוך בריאות נכונה ומנוחת הנפש והגוףנדבת הורי' ר' חיים ברוך ושטערנא שרה שיחיו אלבסקי

This also gives every individual the ability and energy to overcome the difficulties in deed, speech, and thought in their own life. Just as Hashem was with “our forefathers,” so He will be “with us... may He not forsake us nor abandon us,” when we do everything in our power “to walk in his ways that he showed us,” and in this way we experience his liberation today, drawing energy for the entire year.3 excerpts from sichah of 13 Tammuz 5736 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=26-06-2026 לזכות דבורה בת שיינא שתחי' ליום ההולדת שלה י"א תמוזלשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

But the Avos and Imahos exist within every Jew, each of whom is called a son of Avraham, Yitzchok, and Yaakov or a daughter of Sarah, Rivkah, Rochel, and Leah (as is evident to any wise person who looks beyond the surface of things). And since a Jew is above time and place, therefore he is expected to not be affected by time and place, and to be “a people that dwells alone and is not reckoned among the nations,” to the extent that even the nations of the world bless him, as it says in parashas Balak. The lesson is as follows: One must know that even a Jew in our times, in the year 5732, is connected to the Avos and Imahos to the point that they are his strength and power. And since a Jew is inherently above nature, it is also obvious that it is utter foolishness for human beings to try and decide that these powers, which are above nature, should be granted to a gentile.2 excerpts from sichah of 13 Tammuz 5732 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=25-06-2026

Just as a fish cannot live outside water, so too the Jewish people, by its very nature, cannot survive without prioritizing quantity over quality and without keeping Torah and mitzvos, which are “our life and the length of our days.” (As the Alter Rebbe explains, “length of our days means an individual day itself becomes “long”: A day spent only on physical activities such as eating and drinking is not a considered a “day” for a human being at all. When one conducts himself according to Torah throughout the day, that is an ordinary day. And when one learns Torah for one hour with such vitality and enthusiasm that would take someone else twenty-four hours to achieve the same thing – that is a “long day.”) And if one argues: we live in a democracy where coercion is forbidden etc. –the answer is that we are all like people on one ship. One cannot say that since he paid for his cabin he is free to drill a hole in it cabin because he paid for his ticket so he can do whatever he wants. Not only must he not drill a hole in the ship; rather, he must also “compel all the Jewish people,” in pleasant ways and peaceful ways, to keep the ship intact by keeping Torah and mitzvos, as the verse states, “If you walk in My statutes…I will grant peace in the land, etc.,” and “I will lead you upright” to greet Moshiach Tzidkeinu.Excerpt from sichah of 13 Tammuz 5736.
