משיחת יום ד' פ' עקב, כ"ף מנחם-אב ה'תשל"ח ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=23-08-2024 Synopsis This farbrengen is in connection with the passing of someone who gave up his life for spreading Torah and mitzvos under the most difficult circumstances. Indeed, the natural reason for the fact that he passed away before his time is because of the suffering of his imprisonment and exile. Therefore, the practical takeaway from the farbrengen must be to pay no heed to the challenges that may arise in spreading Torah and Judaism (as well as the Sheva Mitzvos Bnei Noach) but to carry on, and when one does so, he will eventually prevail – just as the baal haheilula prevailed back then. And his victory increases from year to year, because the Torah teaches that not only is the soul eternal (which even the gentiles accept), but moreover, after having come down into this world, it continues to be elevated from year to year. This is especially so on a yartzeit, when the soul rises incomparably higher (which is the reason for the special yartzeit minhagim performed in the soul’s merit). In our case, this means to increase, and in an incomparable fashion, in the activities to which the baal haheilula devoted himself, and “the living shall take it to heart” in a joyful manner.Excerpt from sichah of Wednesday, Parashas Ekev, 20 Menachem-Av 5738 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=23-08-2024 לע”נ מרת טאבא נעכא בת ר' וואלף הלוי ע"ה רוס ליום היארצייט שלה י"ט מנחם-אב. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

If you want Eretz Yisrael to be inhabited by Jews – the first thing is to burn the “calf” of the gentiles and know that “the house of Israel is not like all the nations”; rather “it is a nation that will dwell alone, and will not be reckoned among the nations.” A Jew can’t have both; one either chooses the calf or chooses Hashem, and ultimately, those who followed the calf ended up turning around from Eretz Yisrael. And the Bnei Levi, who chased after them and fought them and brough them back, teach us that we must never give up on a Jew: when it comes to keeping mitzvos, there’s no place for “democracy” or the idea that you can’t force someone to do something against their will. To the contrary, the Redemption will come when Moshiach “compels the entire Jewish people to follow it”; this is the way to conquer Eretz Yisrael. When it comes to protecting Eretz Yisrael physically, a person isn’t asked whether he wants to join the army or not, but he is forced – and all the more so when it comes to protecting the soul of Eretz Yisrael. Similarly, when parents hit a child, they put the parents in jail, whereas if they want to “hit” the child’s soul, suddenly they say you can’t mix in to the parents’ decisions, but the reality is that protecting the child’s soul is even more important. And the Bnei Levi were one tribe, the smallest of the tribes, yet they succeeded, because their actions came from the soul.Excerpt from sichah of Wednesday, Parashas Ekev, 20 Menachem-Av 4724 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=22-08-2024

So you appointed a leader to return to Egypt, and you went back eight stations…There, the sons of Levi battled with you…until they forced you to return…” Then, on the verse, “At that time Hashem set apart the tribe of Levi,” Rash writes: “‘At that time’ – During the first year of your departure from Egypt, when you erred with the calf, and the sons of Levi did not err…This verse is juxtaposed to the retreat to Bnei Yaakan, to tell you that here, too, the sons of Levi did not err, but rather remained steadfast in their faith.” The lesson is: as we get closer to the Redemption, if we want to know who will continue on this path and who will become “yordim” (“descenders”) chas v’shalom, we see that those who think it’s necessary to follow the gentiles chas v’shalom and make a golden calf like them – eventually they “descend” from Eretz Yisrael, and not just physically but spiritually – ceasing to put on tefillin, ceasing to keep kosher and Shabbos etc. It is specifically “the tribe of Levi,” who didn’t err with the calf, who guarantees that Eretz Yisrael is a “Jewish land.” [To be continued.]Excerpt from sichah of 20 Menachem-Av 5724 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=21-08-2024 לזכות מנחם מענדל בן חנה יהודית שי' בחורבערגליום ההולדת שלו ט"ז מנחם-אבלשנת ברכה והצלחה ואריכות ימים ושנים טובותלזכות החתן הת' ישראל ארי' לייב שי' קיובמאן והכלה מרת חי'ה מושקא שתחי' ווילענקיןלרגל בואם בקשרי השידוכין בשעה טובה ומוצלחתולזכות הגאולה האמיתית והשלימה תיכף ומי"ד ממ"ש

ב' חלקים מהשיחות יום ג' פ' עקב, ט"ז מנחם-אב ה'תשד"מ, להילדים והילדות – "צבאות השם" שיחיו ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=20-08-2024 Synopsis (1)Parashas Eikev begins: “And it will be, because (‘Eikev’) you will heed…”; and Rashi explains, “If you will heed the minor mitzvos which one tramples with his heels (‘eikev’): one must keep even the mitzvos that the yetzer argues are minor and unimportant, like the mitzvos performed by a young child, and in reward, “Hashem your G-d, will keep for you the covenant and the kindness that He swore to your forefathers. (2) The yetzer comes to a Jewish child and argues: How can you be waiting for the true and complete Redemption and expecting it to come imminently, when I go around and see what’s happening in the world and the difficult exile with so many challenges etc. But the answer appears in an explicit verse in shelishi of Parashas Eikev, “But they are Your people and Your inheritance, which You brought out with Your great strength and with Your outstretched arm”: just like the Exodus from Egypt took place “in the blink of an eye,” so, too, will the coming Redemption. And it’s no wonder, because “they are Your people and Your inheritance.”Two excerpts from sichos of Tuesday, Parashas Eikev, 16 Menachem-Av 5744, to Tzivos Hashem For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=20-08-2024 לזכות מנחם מענדל בן חנה יהודית שי' בחורבערג ליום הולדת שלו ט"ז מנחם-אב – לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובותנדבת בני משפחתו שיחיולזכות ר' אברהם דוד הכהן בן לאה שי' טייטלבוים ליום הולדת שלו ט"ז מנחם-אבלשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

משיחת אור לט"ו באב ה'תשמ"ג ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=19-08-2024 Synopsis The significance of the 15th of Av is explained at the end of Masechta Taanis, “There were no festivals for the Jewish people like the fifteenth of Av and Yom Kippur, on which the daughters of the Jewish people would go out etc.” Every year, the theme of the 15th of Av recurs, and moreover, in accordance with the requirement to “ascend in holiness” – it becomes greater every year. We see this in the fact that the Gemara gives five reasons for the celebration of the 15th of Av, including events spanning the time from when the Jewish people were in the desert (“the deaths in the desert ceased”) until after the destruction of the second Beis Hamikdash (“the slain of Beitar were brought to burial”). Seemingly, if the 15th of Av was already a Yom Tov in the time of the desert, why do we need additional reasons? The answer is simple: when you have more causes for celebration, the celebration is greater. Thus, from the first time the 15th of Av was established as Yom Tov in the desert, the celebration continues to increase, “ascending in holiness.”Excerpt from sichah of 15 Av 5743 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=19-08-2024 לזכות ר' זאב הכהן וזוגתו מרת פריידא הינדא שיחיו טייטלבוים ליובל החתונה שלהם ביום חמשה עשר באבלברכה והצלחה בכל הענינים בגו"ר

משיחת יום ד' דפ' עקב, ט"ו באב ה'תשל"ו ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=18-08-2024 Synopsis Regarding the fifteenth of Av, the Gemara says, “Whoever adds [in Torah study] will add [to his life]; from this day on, “The strength of the sun weakens” and “the nights get longer,” and “night was created only for study.” From this it’s understood that the weakening of the sun is itself a cause for a Yom Tov, because through Torah study, “the voice is the voice of Yaakov,” we weaken the strength of the nations of the world, who count by the sun. And action is the main thing: the point of this farbrengen is that it lead to an increase, in quantity and quality, in the study of Nigleh and Chassidus, and an increase from night to night and from day to day. And then we are promised that “Whoever adds [in Torah study] will add [to his life]” etc. Additionally, since we are preparing for the true and complete Redemption, when no Jew will remain in exile, one should have in mind to give others the merit of his Torah study.Excerpt from sichah of Wednesday, Parashas Ekev, 15 Av 5736 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=18-08-2024

ב' חלקים משיחת פורים תשי"א ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=16-08-2024 Synopsis Being that “You are the least of all the peoples” [as it says in shevi’i of Parashas Va’eschanan], and among Jews themselves – those who are meticulous to keep every minor Rabbinic requirement are the minority, and with every Jew individually, one’s spiritual matters are the minority compared to his physical matters – the question arises: what’s the point of this whole battle for keeping mitzvos etc., if ultimately they will still remain the minority? The answer can be found in recent the recent scientific discovery about the power of the atom: they discovered that what matters is not quantity, but to fully utilize the quality within it, which is done by splitting it – bittul. The lesson is that one must not be deterred by the fact that “you are the least.” Rather, when you reveal and utilize the powers hidden within that small quantity, you can overturn an entire city and conquer the entire world. As we see with “Avraham, who was one” – though he was just one person, he conquered the entire world and “called there in the name of Hashem, G-d of the world” – “he caused others to call.”2 excerpts from sichah of Purim 5711 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=16-08-2024 לע"נ מרת צבי' אדל בת ר' צבי ע"ה ליום היארצייט שלה י"ב מנחם-אב. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

(We’ve been emphasizing lately that every Jewish child should have their own siddur, which will lead them to Torah and tzedakah etc. Seemingly, how does a siddur lead to Torah study? The answer is that Torah study must be preceded by the brachah on Torah, which appears specifically in the siddur etc.) And this is the order of man’s divine service every day, and in life in general: faith, then tefillah, then Torah study and mitzvos. This is also why the beginning of the month of Av requires faith, to not be deterred by the darkness of exile, and tefillah, which binds us above (so that we don’t fall down), and then Torah and tzedakah which will bring us out of exile – “Tzion will be redeemed with justice and those who return to her with tzedakah.”Excerpt from sichah of Thursday night, Parashas Va’eschanan, 15 Av 5738 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=15-08-2024 לע”נ הרה"ח ר' ראובן ב"ר תנחום וזוגתו מרת רבקה בת ר' יחיאל זלמן ע"ה דונין ליום היארצייט שלהם י"א מנחם-אב. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

א' השיחות דיום ד' פ' ואתחנן, י"ג מנחם-אב, ה'תנש"א – לילדים וילדות שיחיו דמחנות קיץ יומיים ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=14-08-2024 Synopsis The Aseres Hadibros (in revi’i of Va’eschanan) has a special connection to Jewish children, because Hashem only agreed to give the Jewish people the Torah when the Jewish people said “Our children will be our guarantors.” In simple terms this means that the fact that we now have the Torah is in the merit of the young Jewish children. And this further emphasizes the great privilege and responsibility every Jewish child in our generation has, to gather and receive the Torah anew, and with greater vitality and excitement, until we merit the true and complete Redemption, when we will hear Torah from Hashem Himself. The way to prepare for the Redemption is by gathering together to daven to Hashem, to study his Torah and give tzedakah, as we will do at the end of this gathering. And very soon we will experience the fulfillment of Moshe’s tefillah as well, “And I entreated Hashem etc.,” to enter the Land with the entire Jewish people.Sichah of Wednesday, Parashas Va’eschanan, 13 Menachem-Av 5741 – to Tzivos Hashem For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=14-08-2024 לזכותנחמה פייגל בת רחל שתחי'ליום ההולדת שלה י"א מנחם-אבלשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

The question only arises for someone who does believe. Because he believes in the eternity of the soul and that all the body’s suffering holds no significance compared to all the pleasures in the world of souls, the question arises: what’s the value of all the physical promises described in the Torah?! The answer is that every detail in the world is a part of Hashem’s intention in all of creation, and when one performs a mitzvah specifically in this world, it cause an “eternal union above” that never ends! But if so, it turns out that if a Jew’s body was killed in Auschwitz, depriving him of doing mitzvos for thirty or fifty or seventy years, all those everlasting unions above are lacking?! And here you can’t answer that the soul continues afterwards to live forever and experience tremendous pleasure, because the fact is that he was deprived of those mitzvos?! But a Jew who believes in the eternal unity of the mitzvos doesn’t ask questions; he believes that “there is justice and there is a Judge.” Yet despite the fact that for vast majority of believers, their faith in Hashem became stronger during the war, we constantly stress in davening that it should be “good for us” and with “visible, revealed good” etc., and this is what the Jewish people demand and deserve!Excerpt from sichah of 11 Nissan 5733 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=13-08-2024

משיחת י"א ניסן ה'תשל"ג ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=12-08-2024 Synopsis A simple explanation regarding the well-known question as to how you can say that “There is justice and there is a Judge,” after what we witnessed during the Second World War, etc.: The question itself is based on the belief that there exists a soul and a body. Everyone understands that the soul is primary; similarly, one’s attachment to their father or mother etc. is to the father and mother’s soul, not their body. And every rational person understands that only the physical body, not the spiritual soul, was subject to the burning at Auschwitz etc. Rachmana litzlan, whereas the souls of the kedoshim, which are primary, continue to exist forever. Thus, just as it is foolish to try and prove from seeing a person suffering, or experiencing pleasure, for one moment, that the person’s entire life was that way – so, too here: the person was observed suffering only for a tiny moment of his eternal life (the soul’s life, which is primary), so it would be foolish to decide on that basis that the entire life was one of suffering. Perhaps this instance of “His wrath for a moment” was the preface to “life resulting from His favor” for thousands of years (and the reward for giving up one’s life in sanctification of Hashem’s name).Excerpt from sichah of 11 Nissan 5733 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=12-08-2024

(2) At the beginning of Parashas Va’eschanan, Moshe Rabbeinu says to Hashem, “You have begun to show Your servant Your greatness etc.” – indicating that it was only in Moshe’s time that Hashem began to show His greatness etc. The Zohar asks: Weren’t there also miracles in the times of the Patriarchs?! And he answers: it was only in Moshe’s time that the Jewish people attained greatness – because that’s when they became a complete and united community of millions of people (men, women, and children), and that is the true greatness of Hashem. The lesson is that everyone should see to it that the entire Jewish people are united through Ahavas Yisrael, and this is “Your greatness.” And it has to start with the children.Excerpt from sichah of Sunday, Parashas Va’eschanan, 7 Menachem-Av 5740 – to children For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=11-08-2024

The second name of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, was Yitzchok, which was the Arizal’s name; this name is associated (not with man’s service, like the name Yosef, but rather) with the reward for the service, and “the reward for a mitzvah is a mitzvah,” which is the greatest cause for “laughter.” The name was given because “whoever hears will rejoice over me” – even someone who hears, and “whoever hears,” becomes full of joy and laughter, thus purifying the world until it becomes imbued with the light of holiness in a manner of seeing, “And your eyes shall see your Teacher,” and thus the Nine Days will be transformed to festivals, and it will be revealed specifically down here, in the physical sense. Two excerpts from sichah of Monday night, Parashas Devarim, 5 Menachem-Av 5748 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=09-08-2024

What is the reason? Because on that day the fish and birds were created” Rashi explains, “They do not toil for their sustenance, rather they are sustained by the kindness of the Holy One, blessed be He.” All aspects of the seven days of creation are repeated anew every week (as we see regarding the Shir Shel Yom, where we recite “the song they would sing in the Beis Hamikdash” – which is the song related to the acts of creation of that day); since Hashem’s creation on the fifth day of the week emphasizes “acts of kindness,” therefore anyone born on that day will be “a person who performs acts of kindness.” The lesson is that while acts of kindness can be performed on many levels (“to satisfy one’s obligation,” “as it should be done”; “beyond the letter of the law” etc.) – but they can also be done in such a way as to “cleave to Him” and “His attributes” – in a manner of “the kindness of the Holy One, blessed be He.”Two excerpts from sichah of Wednesday night, Parashas Chayei Sarah 5744 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=08-08-2024 לע"נ הרה"ח הר"ר יואל ב"ר רפאל נחמן הכהן קאהן ליום היארצייט שלו ו' מנחם אב. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

משיחת פורים ה'תשכ"ה ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=07-08-2024 Synopsis Regarding the relationship between the Jewish people and non-Jews, we find on the one hand that the Torah prohibits stealing from a gentile and even requires helping him etc., but on the other hand, the Torah says not to rely upon them for salvation, because “the kindness of the kingdoms is sin” and they are only “the support of a splintered reed.” Similarly, we find that there were Jewish leaders throughout history who made efforts to influence the non-Jews by paying money etc., even though “the kindness of the kingdoms is sin.” The explanation is: since “one does not rely on a miracle,” one must take action via natural means and hire watchmen when necessary etc. But at the same time, one must also know that by nature itself, “the kindness of the kingdoms is sin,” and they are only “the support of a splintered reed” etc., and “if Hashem will not guard a city, its watcher keeps his vigil in vain.” Therefore, it is necessary first and foremost to make sure that “Hashem guards the city.” And the litmus test that the efforts toward the gentile are appropriate is when it leads to strengthening Torah and mitzvos and trust in Hashem, and when one davens to Hashem beforehand for success and thanks Hashem afterwards when he succeeds…Excerpt from sichah of Purim 5725 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=07-08-2024

ב' חלקים משיחת מוצש"פ פנחס ה'תשל"ח ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=06-08-2024 Synopsis The name of the month is “Menachem-Av,” meaning that the entire month, from its beginning, already offers the “Menachem” (consolation) for the undesirable aspects of the month. This is especially emphasized in our time, when the Redemption is near, to the point that it must be clearly verbalized, which reveals and proclaims and announces everywhere that the time of “Menachem” is beginning. This year is also a leap year, which brings an additional entire month of Torah and mitzvos, thus nullifying “our sins” and thereby nullifying the result of our sins, namely, the fact that “we were exiled from our land,” and thus turning “their mourning into gladness.” Although joy is supposed to be diminished during the Three Weeks, however the joy derived from Torah study (“The orders of Hashem are upright, causing the heart to rejoice”) is a requirement, especially now when it’s necessary to exert special effort for the Redemption, as “Tzion shall be redeemed through justice (Torah) and those who return to it with tzedakah (which encompasses all the mitzvos)” and this should be done with joy.Two excerpts from sichah of Motza’ei Shabbos Parashas Pinchas, 5738 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=06-08-2024

(Although Tisha B’Av this year is postponed to Sunday, and there’s a debate as to whether the entire preceding week is considered the week of Tisha B’Av, however, with regards to increasing in Torah study and tzedakah there’s no room for debate). Obviously this includes the obligation to learn these halachos, yet it’s astonishing that when a stir is made about increasing in Torah study during the Three Weeks, particularly Hilchos Beis Habechirah, no mention is made of studying the halachos of the Three Weeks! In accordance with the verse, “Tzion shall be redeemed through justice (Torah) and those who return to her with tzedakah” – there should be an increase in Torah study, as well as tzedakah, and particularly, giving tzedakah before davening. If the Alter Rebbe wrote that in his times the primary service was through tzedakah, because “The Jewish people are redeemed only through tzedakah,” how much more so nowadays when “all the end times have passed.” And especially at this time of year, when we daven to Hashem for the Redemption with even greater intensity. Whoever hears these words should endeavor not only to fulfill them on their own, but also to publicize them – to bring the “letter” of the Rebbe of our generation to each and every member of the generation. Two excerpts from sichah of Thursday night, Parashas Matos-Masei, Rosh Chodesh Menachem-Av 5748 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=05-08-2024

In the Holy Land it should be done at his physical resting place, but it should also be done everywhere; just as Hashem placed Himself in His Torah, such that by studying Torah, “you take Me,” so it is with tzaddikim who “resemble their Creator” and their teachings. (2) Siyumim should be conducted throughout the Nine Days, including on Tisha B’Av. (3) All the mivtzaim should be strengthened during the Nine Days in particular, especially the Shabbos Candles Campaign; we can understand the great importance of lighting Shabbos candles this week in particular, on Erev Shabbos Chazon. Just as the majority of the journeys took place in the “great and fearful desert,” so it is with everyone’s Divine service; therefore, it is necessary for “Moshe to write the starting points for their journeys” – Moshe’s essence is Torah (which comes from above to below), and he draws down (from the level of “engraving” to the level of “writing”) “their starting points” – the source and origin of every Jew, i.e., the essence of the soul, and brings it down into souls within bodies, as they stand in the “desert of the nations.” This gives them the strength to pass through the forty-two journeys in the desert, etc. But the ultimate purpose is the subsequent elevation from below to above, as the verse concludes, “and these were their journeys with their starting points”: as a result of the journeys, they are elevated to the level of “their starting points” and even higher than that, because the descent is for the sake of ascent. This ascent is achieved through the service of tefilah. This is why it says “these are the journeys” in the plural, because even after leaving constraints and limitations of the first journey from “the land of Egypt,” it’s necessary to continue to rise from strength to strength until reaching the other side of the Yarden etc.2 excerpts from Maamar V’Eileh Masei Bnei Yisroel, Thursday night, Parashas Masei, 24 Tammuz 5736 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=02-08-2024 לזכות בנציון מאיר הלוי בן חי' שרה שי' וויינבוים ליום הולדת שלו כ"ז תמוזלשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובותלזכות מנוחה בת שיינא שתחי' ליום ההולדת שלה כ"ח תמוזלשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

There’s a caveat: being that there are differences of opinion regarding faith and religion, instilling the belief in the Creator and Ruler of the world must be done in a way that isn’t associated with any specific religion. This can be done by instituting a moment of silence in schools, dedicated to thought and reflection about the Creator and Ruler of the world, but without a verbal prayer or anything that could cause disagreements among the administration or students – and the parents will tell the children what to think about during the moment of silence. It should be instituted in the universities etc. as well, especially considering the current situation in the universities. Unfortunately, even in some religious schools, the focus is on providing students with knowledge of Torah and mitzvos, but without attention to faith, love, and fear of Hashem. It’s important that the day begin with davening and contemplation of Hashem’s greatness. Fortunate is the lot and great is the merit of those working toward this end, and those who have any influence in this regard should utilize it to the fullest etc.Two excerpts from sichah of Thursday, Parashas Balak, 12 Tammuz 5743 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=01-08-2024 לע"נ מרת ציפא רחל בת ר' אלי'הו ע"ה קרינסקי ליום היארצייט שלה כ"ו תמוז. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

Yet specifically in the schools, an “iron curtain” is erected, so as not to allow G-d in…. They argue that the Constitution requires etc., but the Constitution was established by people who came to this country to practice their religion without persecution. Thus, there is no basis for the notion that they intended to forbid in schools the mention of the Creator of the universe! Moreover, the Constitution was written “for the people,” and it expressly allows for amendment when circumstances change. Therefore, when the situation has changed, such that children are no longer taught at home that there’s a “seeing eye and listening ear,” and we see that the crime rate among the youth is rising etc., the good of the people requires doing something about it. A recent positive development is that the President of the United States has issued a call to allow the recognition of G-d to be taught in public schools. But inexplicably, the only place where it’s forbidden to speak about Hashem and the concept of a seeing eye and a listening ear etc. is in the public schools! They’re trying to raise children and they give them all kinds of knowledge about math and science etc., but none of it has any effect on the child’s practical daily conduct! Even if they do talk to a child about behaving a certain way, they do only by explaining that it’s in the child’s best interest to be a decent person, but not that the child is obligated to do so. They don’t tie it to the existence of Hashem, the Master and Ruler of the World, Who has a seeing eye and listening ear, and the fact that wherever the child is, Hashem is with him and watches how he behaves. But only such an education ensures that the child will grow up as a human being, not like a wild animal in the jungle. Seemingly, why is it called Hilchos Beis Habechirah (“Laws of the Chosen House”), and not “Hilchos Beis Hamikdash,” in accordance with the verse (the source of the obligation to build the Beis Hamikdash), “They shall make Me a Mikdash”? The answer is that “Beis Habechirah” emphasizes that Hashem chooses this house from all other houses, and that it is upon us to bring holiness into all other houses, to the point that it could be said that that the Beis Hamikdash is chosen from among them. The same applies to the choosing of the Jewish people from among the nations.2 excerpts from sichah of 17 Tammuz 5744 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=29-07-2024

משיחת כ"א מנ"א ה'תשד"מ ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=28-07-2024 Synopsis (1) We find something unique in the Rambam’s laws of vows: despite the tremendous gravity of vows (through which one has the power to consecrate even things unfit for the mizbeach etc.), the law is that a vow taken by a twelve-year-old boy or eleven-year-old girl, before the age of majority, is binding by biblical law. (2) A discussion regarding the source for the Rambam’s ruling that if a boy took a vow at the beginning of his twelfth year, and was examined (as required – to see whether he understands the significance of a vow and to Whom he took the vow etc.), and he was found to possess the requisite awareness, but then he took a vow later in the year, he must be examined again (and if he was now found not to have the requisite awareness – “their vows and their statements are of no consequence”): This is a most unusual ruling, because in Torah we usually rely on a chazakah that once something is found to be in order, we presume it remains that way. Yet here, although the child’s vow is binding by Torah law (where we are usually stringent in a case of doubt), here the Rambam nevertheless rules that the vow is of no consequence.Excerpt from sichah of 21 Menachem-Av 5744 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=28-07-2024 לע"נ ר' משה ב"ר יהודה אריה לייב ע"ה דרוק ליום היארצייט שלו כ"ב תמוז. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

א' השיחות דהתוועדות י"ב תמוז ה'תשי"ד ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=26-07-2024 Synopsis Parashah Pinchas enumerates the korbanos of the Yomim Tovim, which in turn form the Torah readings for each Yom Tov etc. The lesson is that by preparing for it during an ordinary week by reading Parashah Pinchas, we merit Yomim Tovim throughout the entire year. In general, Hashem wants a Jew to earn what he has through his own toil, not as “bread of shame.” Therefore, a Jew shouldn’t be upset by the fact that things like earning a livelihood etc. involve tremendous effort and concealment and challenge etc., but should remember that it’s all only a test, and it will last only until the Jew resolves to live his life according to the Torah despite the challenge. When one truly lives his life this way, Hashem responds in kind and nullifies the tests, allowing the person to see that they truly have no substance.Sichah from farbrengen of 12 Tammuz 5714. משיחת י"ב תמוז ה'תשד"מ ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=25-07-2024 Synopsis The verse calls the tamid offering “My offering, My bread.” Just as physical connects body and soul, there is also the “food” that connects the “soul” of the world – Hashem – to its “body.” (Although Hashem transcends any connection to the world, once He created the world, it is necessary to draw G-dliness into it.) The Torah tells us that His “bread” is the korbanos, particularly the tamid offering, and nowadays, it is davening in the manner of an olah offering, which is entirely for Hashem. This is emphasized particularly on a weekday, when, despite being involved in mundane matters, a Jew begins and concludes the day with this “olah offering” of davening, bringing the “soul” into the world and drawing down Hashem’s blessings for children, life, and sustenance in abundance.Excerpt from sichah of 12 Tammuz 5744 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=25-07-2024

In terms of Divine service: “The tefillos were instituted corresponding to the tamid offerings”; and a korban means to come close to Hashem. True closeness is when one’s service is like an olah – without thinking about the benefit to oneself, but only about Hashem, “not for the sake of reward.” One may think that such service is possible only in the “morning,” when everything is bright (physically and spiritually), but how can he be expected to serve Hashem in this fashion when it seems (or in fact is) “dark” chas v’shalom? But the Torah teaches us that the obligation to bring the tamid applies “in the morning and toward evening”!Excerpt from sichah of Thursday, Parashas Pinchas, 12 Tammuz 5744. One of the events giving rise to the fast of 17 Tammuz was that “the city was breached”; this aspect of the fast day emphasizes how it comes as a result, and is connected to, the other fast days, 10 Teves, 9 Av, and Tzom Gedaliah. Obviously, when a negative event results from a prior negative event, and gives rise to a subsequent negative event, it is more severe. But being that the “measure of good is greater” etc., it is understood that the same applies in the positive aspects of the fast day, namely, its quality as an auspicious time that will be transformed to festivals: these aspects are emphasized with greater force on 17 Tammuz, which follows and is connected to the other fast days etc.Excerpt from sichah of 17 Tammus 5744. ב' חלקים משיחת יום ב' פ' פנחס, ט"ז תמוז ה'תש"נ ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=22-07-2024 Synopsis (1) Sheini of Parashas Pinchas discusses the counting of the Jewish people, which emphasizes the unity of the Jewish people, each of whom is counted equally. May it be Hashem’s will that we immediately merit the heralding of the Redemption by “Pinchas, who is Eliyahu.” (2) The meal eaten on the night before the fast of 17 Tammuz hastens the Redemption: by saying the brachos at the meal, and by everyone affirming it by saying Amen, we bring about the Redemption, in accordance with the Rambam’s ruling that even one act, word, or thought tips the scale of the entire world and brings salvation and deliverance. May it be His will that standing on 16 Tammuz, on the heels of 15 Tammuz and 14 Tammuz, and before that, the liberation of 12 and 13 Tammuz, when positive resolutions were made regarding Torah and mitzvos and spreading Yiddishkeit and the wellsprings outward – that this will certainly hasten the salvation and deliverance through Moshiach Tzidkeinu.2 excerpts from sichah of Monday, Parashas Pinchas, 16 Tammuz 5750 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=22-07-2024

At the very least, there should be no outward expression of the opposite of Ahavas Yisrael, neither in deed nor in writing (nor by writing letters without signatures and the like chas v’shalom). Since today isn’t Shabbos, we should speak only about the positive: we must increase in all matters of Ahavas Yisroel, in giving tzedakah happily etc., which will prepare for the imminent arrival of Moshiach literally right now, which will be heralded by “Pinchas, who is Eliyahu,” who, as a Kohen, will certainly hasten to announce it. Pinchas in particular embodies alacrity, because he merited to become a Kohen (not by birth but) by his own effort etc., and surely he will demonstrate his alacrity by hastening to announce that Moshiach has come, literally right now.2 excerpts from sichah of Sunday, Parashas Pinchas, 15 Tammuz 5747 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=21-07-2024 לע”נ הרב אורי עזרא ב"ר יוסף יהודה ע"ה ליום היארצייט שלו ט"ו תמוז. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

משיחת י"ג תמוז ה'תשל"ה ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=19-07-2024 Synopsis Sometimes it happens that when you tell a Jew that Hashem has chosen him as part of the Jewish people and given him His Torah, and that he must therefore dedicate a few moments each day to studying Torah, he responds: Specifically because he values Torah, he “protects” it by placing it in a case behind thick glass on a high shelf... It should be explained to him that Hashem wants him to sit down and actually study Torah! On the contrary – the true sign of respect for the Torah is that it becomes the daily nourishment for one’s soul and that in his every free moment he takes out a sefer and delves into so much that it tears from excessive use! Thus [the baal hageulah in his letter for the occasion of 12-13 Tammuz 5688] specifically uses the expression that [the redemption is one for all those engaged in] “harbatzas Torah” – from the phrase “rovetz tachas masa’o” “lying under its burden”: the sign of respect for Torah is when one doen’t leave it above as “delights before him,” but brings it down here and studies it at every free moment etc.Excerpt from sichah of 13 Tammuz 5735 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=19-07-2024 לזכות מרדכי בן חי'ה ריסא שי' ונגר ליום ההולדת שלו י"ד תמוז - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות.

ב' חלקים משיחת חג הגאולה י"ב תמוז ה'תשל"ג ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=18-07-2024 Synopsis The question is asked, how can you experience the celebration of [the Rebbe’s liberation] now, with the same intensity as the first time in 5687 (1927)?! This can be explained based on what my father-in-law, the Rebbe, related, that when a story is told intently, and one focuses on and contemplates its content, one can put himself in the same situation as the situation being described, and thereby experience it anew with the same intensity – and in way that produces practical results. (We similarly find regarding the obligation to remember the exodus from Egypt on the night of 15 Nissan: one must feel as though he is currently leaving Egypt himself). The imprisonment of the Rebbe, my father-in-law, as a result of the persecution against the Jewish religion in general, and against educating children in the way of Torah and mitzvos in particular, should inspire positive resolutions with regards to Torah study and mitzvah observance, and educating Jewish children. When this is resolved publicly, extra assistance is provided from above – and all this should be done with joy, which breaks barriers etc.Two excerpts from sichah of 12 Tammuz 5733 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=18-07-2024 לזכות חנה מושקא בת שטערנא שרה שתחי' ליום ההולדת שלה י"ב תמוזלשנת ברכה והצלחה רבה ומופלגה בכל בגו"ר מתוך בריאות נכונה ומנוחת הנפש והגוףנדבת הורי' ר' חיים ברוך ושטערנא שרה שיחיו אלבסקי

ב' שיחות הראשונות דהתוועדות י"ב תמוז ה'תשכ"ה ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=17-07-2024 Synopsis On 12 of Tammuz 5687 (1927) in exile in Kostroma, the Rebbe, my father-in-law (accompanied by the Chassid R’ Eliyahu Chaim Althaus) went to register at the local government office. The office was closed due to some holiday, but the officer on duty informed the Rebbe that an order had been received from Moscow to release him. When he returned to his lodging (where they had already heard the news), they found the Chassid R’ Michoel Dvorkin dancing around the house with a bottle of mashkeh and singing “nyet nyet nikavo,” etc., which means “there is none else besides Him.” Therefore, it is appropriate now, when “these days are remembered and observed,” that this niggun should be sung. Similarly, it is told that when the abovementioned Chassid R’ Eliyahu Chaim heard the news, his face changed colors, to the point that the Rebbe, my father-in-law, was concerned for his health, and sought to calm him down. There was also a child in the house, who, upon seeing the excitement, climbed up on the fence and made his way around the fence a few times with his head down and his feet up. The lesson is: the joy of the liberation should affect everyone – whether he’s on the level of a “child,” an “adult,” or an “elder” – to break free of his limitations – “your very,” and this will draw down the “very” from above – true boundlessness etc.First two sichos of the farbrengen of 12 Tammuz 5725 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=17-07-2024 לזכות דבורה בת שיינא שתחי' ליום ההולדת שלה י"א תמוזלשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

(2) Recently there’s been a weakening in terms of limiting oneself before age forty to three cups of l’chaim at most, and not less than a revi’is in total, whether on Shabbos or Yom Tov, 12 Tammuz, 19 Kislev, Simchas Torah, Purim, or any other time when one might think to be lenient. (The cup for Kiddush is not included). This is in force now and for the coming days, without any “explanations”! (3) Modesty is necessary even during the summer, and even in the “country,” and it relates to the verse [in Shishi of Parashas Balak], “How goodly are your tents, O Yaakov” etc.; on which Rashi explains, “he saw that the openings of their tents did not face each other” – the matter of modesty. One should remember that Hashem is with everyone wherever he is, and one should behave accordingly!2 excerpts from sichah of 12 Tammuz 5725 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=16-07-2024

א' השיחות דהתוועדות י"ב תמוז ה'תשט"ז ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=15-07-2024 Synopsis On the verse [in Shishi of Parashas Balak], “He crouches and lies down like a lion and like a lioness, who will rouse him,” the Midrash states an opinion that this refers to the time “from Tzidkiyahu until King Moshiach” – the time of exile. Meaning, even during the exile, when the Jewish people “crouches and lies down,” they are still “like a lion and like a lioness”; nobody has control over them because exile is only “forced by Divine decree,” until the time when “Who” – Hashem – “will rouse him.” Therefore, the whole concept of exile doesn’t apply to Torah and mitzvos. To ensure that we don’t become accustomed to exile and begin to think otherwise, from time to time we are shown open miracles even in exile (like the miracle of the liberation of 12-13 Tammuz), which remind us that “there is none else besides Him.” This is the lesson from the miracle of 12-13 Tammuz: a Jew must know that in every place and time, he is “like a lion and like a lioness,” a free person in everything related to Torah and mitzvos, and the limitations of time and space are of no consequence.Sichah from farbrengen of 12 Tammuz 5716 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=15-07-2024 לע"נ מרת אסתר גיטל בת ר' יצחק ע"ה ענגעל ליום היארצייט שלה ט' תמוז. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

ב' חלקים משיחת יום ה' פ' בלק, י"ב תמוז ה'תשכ"ג ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=14-07-2024 Synopsis It is clear that Bilam possessed the level of prophecy; therefore, from Bilam’s words we can also derive something regarding prophecy among the Jewish people. Prophecy and the guidelines surrounding it (such as the prohibition against suppressing one’s prophecy), can be understood in two ways: (1) as a particular matter concerning a particular person – the prophet; or (2) as a part of serving Hashem in general, like building the Beis Hamikdash and believing in Hashem, which are “among the foundations of faith.” Bilam’s expression, “What Hashem puts into my mouth, that I must take care to say,” implies that suppressing prophecy his wasn’t just a matter of his personal prohibition, because we find no such prohibition upon a non-Jew against suppressing prophecy. Rather, Bilam’s obligation was part of the general obligation to serve Hashem and not to serve idolatry, which applies even to Bnai Noach. The lesson is that when one experiences thoughts of teshuvah from time to time, from his soul’s “mazal,” they are akin to “minor prophecy” – and how could one not utilize it and thereby “suppress his prophecy”?! Similarly, the word of the Nasi of the generation is the word of Hashem, “His secret He revealed through His servants, the prophets”!2 excerpts from sichah of Thursday, Parashas Balak, 12 Tammuz 5723 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=14-07-2024

To teach you that just as sacrifices bring atonement, so the death of tzaddikim secures atonement.” (1) The reason the death of the righteous is compared to the atonement of the parah adumah, and not to korbanos in general, is because like the death of tzaddikim, the parah adumah atones even for impurity from death. (And just as the atonement through korbanos depends on teshuvah, so does the atonement brought about by the death of tzaddikim.) (2) From the fact that it is specifically the death of Miriam that is juxtaposed to the parah adumah, it is understood that regarding other tzaddikim, too, we should find in them the special service in which Miriam excelled: she was one of the “Hebrew midwives” who stood at the head of protecting the Jewish boys and ensuring they would be born and grow up as Jews, and speak like Jews (“Puah”), even in exile in Egypt. Two excerpts from farbrengen of 20 Menachem-Av 5737 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=12-07-2024

Rather, when the Jewish people looked upward and subjected their hearts to their Father in Heaven, they would be healed.” Meaning, even though they were still in the desert and associated with undesirable matters etc., nonetheless, “when they looked upward” and asked Hashem to help them, immediately, “they would live”! The lesson is that although we are still in exile and must still daven and demand that “We want Mashiach now” – even before Moshiach comes, the Jewish people must be “alive” in their Torah and mitzvos, which are “our life and the length of our days”; even during exile one’s divine service can be done with vitality and joy.Excerpt from sichah of Thursday Parashas Chukas, 30 Sivan, first day of Rosh Chodesh Tammuz 5741 to the members of Tzivos Hashem For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=11-07-2024

ג' חלקים משיחת מוצש"ק פ' חוקת, יו"ד תמוז ה'תשל"ח ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=10-07-2024 Synopsis On the words [in Chamishi of Parashas Chukas], “the route of the scouts,” Rashi explains: “The southern route, taken by the spies, as it says, ‘They went up in the south.’” The reason the verse doesn’t simply say “the southern route” is because then it would be difficult to understand why they went that way, being that “The Amalekites dwell in the south.” Instead the verse says, “the route of the scouts” – the route “taken by the spies,” who paved the way for them. Although the spies ended up acting undesirably, nonetheless: (a) “At that time they were righteous”; and (b) the reason they went that way is because they were commanded by Moshe to do so; it wasn’t their choice. This gives us a wondrous lesson: Even though the spies kept the Jewish people in the desert for forty years, their single act of “going up in the south” caused that later, when the Jewish people traveled on their way to conquer Eretz Yisrael, they went the same route paved by the spies thirty-nine years earlier. From this we see the tremendous power of a Jew’s single good deed, like the adage, “A soul comes down to the world and lives for 70-80 years just to do a favor for another Jew.”3 excerpts from sichah of Motza’ei Shabbos Parashas Chukas, 10 Tammuz 5738 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=10-07-2024

This applies all the more so to an encompassing soul, because “the community does not die”: it says in sefarim that “tzibbur” is an acronym for Tzaddikim, Beinonim, u’Resha’im – meaning that a tzaddik, a shepherd of all Jews, is a tzibbur who cannot die – and in this physical world. (And the fact that the “embalmers embalmed” etc. was only to the physical eye). (2) The Rebbe was not the Nassi in the past; rather he is alive now literally in this world, below ten tefachim. (3) Rachmana litzlan to say that [my father-in-law, the Rebbe] hasn’t been here for 35 years; that’s a complete falsehood! The truth is the exact opposite – every year for 35 years, he has become more alive, stronger, and more vibrant. (4) 3 Tammuz (as it later became clear) was the beginning and opening of the (complete) redemption of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, and the opening of a new order in spreading the wellsprings outward.Excerpts from sichos of (1) Motza’ei Shabbos Parashas Beshalach, 10 Shevat 5717; (2) 12 Tammuz 5745; (3) 15 Tammuz 5745; (4) 3 Tammuz 5749. This requires special abilities and even self-sacrifice. The Gemara explains that the verse, “He that has a generous eye shall be blessed, for he gives of his bread to the destitute” refers to Moshe Rabbeinu: he was personally involved with the people, even the spiritually “destitute,” and gave generously “of his bread” – that which his life and all of Seder Hishtalshelus depended on. Like everything in Torah, we must take a lesson from this, especially when it comes to the “extension of Moshe in every generation,” the Nasi Hador.2 excerpts from sichah of Monday night, Parashas V’Zos Habracha,, 13 Tishrei 5744 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=08-07-2024 לע”נ הרבנית עטא דבורה בת ר' מרדכי ע"ה מרזוב ליום היארצייט שלה ב' תמוז. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

Although it wasn’t clear that year what the significance of 3 Tammuz was, it later emerged that it was the prelude to, and beginning of, the redemption of 12-13 Tammuz – when it was affirmed publicly that the Rebbe’s work of spreading Torah could continue, and to an even greater degree than before. (As similarly explained regarding 19 Kislev, it is analogous to the additional force a document has after being contested and then certified in court.) Then, the freedom of 3 Tammuz and 12-13 Tammuz increased even more when the Rebbe left that country – and since all redemptions are interconnected – it emerges that 3 Tammuz encompasses the true and complete Redemption through Moshiach Tzidkeinu. The practical takeaway from 3 Tammuz must be to increase in spreading the wellsprings outward, with incomparably greater strength and vigor than before.Excerpt from sichah of Motza’ei Shabbos Parashas Korach, 3 Tammuz 5738 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=07-07-2024 לע"נ מרת חי'ה ריסא ע"ה בת - יבלחט"א - ר' ברוך בענדיט שי' ונגר ליום היארצייט שלה בדר"ח תמוז. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

Whoever comes close to the Mishkan of Hashem dies!” In response Hashem selects the tribe of Levi from among the Jewish people to keep “the charge of the Sanctuary,” to show the Jewish people where in the Sanctuary they may go and where they may not. This serves as a lesson for the spiritual Mishkan: Generally, a Jew’s life is divided into matters of Torah and mitzvos, in which they are completely different from non-Jews, and permissible matters like eating, drinking, and business, in which they are similar to non-Jews (except that a Jew turns that part of his life, too, into a Mishkan). How can a person, who is influenced by self-love, know until what point he must be involved in Torah and mitzvos, and when it is permissible and necessary to engage in permissible matters? For this Hashem appoints from among the Jewish people guides and educators who teach those around them and show them when it is time to be involved in holiness and when it is time to be involved in permissible matters for the sake of Heaven. Hashem grants these emissaries the strength and blessing they need to succeed, and their reward is that, “I am your portion and inheritance.” May it be His will that at the end of the summer you will be able to say, “See what we have brought up.”Sichah from Thursday of Parashas Korach, second day of Rosh Chodesh Tammuz 5724, to the counselors of Camp Emunah For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=05-07-2024 לע”נ הרה"ג הרה"ח הרה"ת ר' שלום ע"ה בן הרה"ח הרה"ת ר' אלחנן דובער הי"ד מרזוב ליום היארצייט שלו אדר"ח תמוזת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

It gave forth blossoms, sprouted buds, and produced ripe almonds.” Rashi explains that almonds are “the fruit that blossoms quicker than other fruits.” The lesson is as follows: the service of the Jewish people in spreading Yiddishkeit must be done with alacrity, meaning, as soon as one makes the decision to get involved in it, he can no longer rest, and feels that he must go out and find more Jews to reach. And just as the staff “produced ripe almonds” here in the literal sense, similarly, one’s influence on another Jew must result in practical results, to the point that one’s actions “produce ripe almonds,” meaning the person he has influenced then proceeds to influence others.Excerpt from sichah of Wednesday night, Parashas Korach, 3 Tammuz 5742 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=04-07-2024

משיחת אור לג' תמוז ה'תשמ"ב ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=03-07-2024 Synopsis The name “Korach” is composed of three letters: kuf, reish, and ches. All of them resemble the letter hei, but each with a different variation: The letter hei consists of three lines: the line on the right side and the line on the top (corresponding to thought and speech) are connected, whereas the line on the left (corresponding) to action is disconnected from them. When it comes to action, the Torah says, “Do not add to it and do not diminish it” (“Do not add” comes first; since the yetzer hara knows a person won’t listen if it tells him to “diminish,” it first comes and tries to convince a person to “add”). Additionally, the action should not be done hastily, but rather with a pause between the thought/speech and action – like the disconnect between the left line and the other two lines in the letter hei – to ensure the action is done appropriately. But in the letter kuf, the left line (action) extends downward, (“adding”); in the letter reish, the left line is entirely missing (“diminishing”); and in the letter ches, the left line directly connected to the two lines of thought and speech (“acting hastily”).Excerpt from sichah of 3 Tammuz 5742 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=03-07-2024

משיחת י"א ניסן ה'תשל"ו ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=02-07-2024 Synopsis The true reason a person isn’t satisfied with the money they already have and wants more, is so that they can give more tzedakah. But the yetzer hara tells the person, why should give your hard-earned money to some “idler” who spends his time studying or teaching Torah instead of earning money? Why don’t you invest the money on Wall Street? The response to this is that the business world is an illusion, whereas Torah is the Torah of truth – and Hashem gives a person the free-will to decide how to use their money. But a person must know that not using wealth properly can lead to undesirable consequences, as it is written, “riches kept by their owner – to his detriment.” This was first said about Korach, and the lesson for us is: one shouldn’t think that because he’s smart and he's a Torah scholar, he can rely on his own understanding of things, and use his money for his personal needs, while giving only a small part to charity. Korach was also smart, but because he convinced himself that he was the “owner” of the money, the money ended up being “to his detriment.” The truth is that the owner of the money is Hashem, Who chose the person to be His shliach to give it to tzedakah and noble causes. (Similarly, parents do not own their children to do with them whatever they wish; the children are entrusted to the parents by Hashem, to be His shluchim to raise them according to His will).Excerpt from sichah of 11 Nissan 5736 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=02-07-2024

Children must be educated in such a way that even when they are eating, drinking, or playing, it is evident that they are sons of Avraham, Yitzchak, and Yaakov and daughters of Sarah, Rivkah, Rachel, and Leah. The parashah teaches us that the main thing is how they eat, sleep, and behave in general, such that even when they are not in school, it is apparent they are part of a “holy nation” and the “One nation in the earth.” Certainly, Hashem provides the strength to succeed in this mission with joy and gladness of heart, and may it be His will that you succeed in influencing your students to behave like Jewish children throughout all 24 hours of the day, and that “all who see them shall recognize them that they are seed that Hashem has blessed” – generations of members of Hashem’s army, with whom we will conquer the world to make it a dwelling place for Hashem, which will bring Moshiach very soon. Two excerpts from sichah of Thursday, Parashas Korach, 24 Sivan 5733, to the graduating students of Bais Rivkah, and the counselors of Camp Emunah and Pardes Chanah For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=01-07-2024 לזכותהחתן התמים הרב רפאל שי׳והכלה המהוללה גולדא שתחי'וילימובסקילרגל נשואיהם בשעטומ״צביום ב', כ״ה סיון תהא שנת פלאות דגולות

The answer is that Korach knew that in some respects, one person is holier than another, but he argued that in those matters where “the entire congregation are all holy” – one person ought not be raised over another. And since he heard from Moshe that even in those matters there are some people who are holier and from whom more is demanded, he argued that Moshe had his own ulterior motive here, chas v’shalom. The wondrous lesson here is as follows: A Jew might think that when is he different from all other nations, and when does “Hashem stand over him…and searches his reins and heart to see if he serves Him properly,” and when should he educate his children – only in matters of Torah and mitzvos, but in those matters where Jews and non-Jews are equal, like eating, drinking, and conducting business, it’s enough to behave like a human being and not steal, etc., but no more. And to this comes Moshe’s response, that even in such matters, a Jew’s holiness must be evident, and he must behave like a Jew. שיחת יום ה' פ' שלח, כ"ד סיון ה'תשכ"ח, להתלמידות המסיימות ד"בית רבקה" ולהמדריכות דמחנה "אמונה" תחיינה ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=28-06-2024 Synopsis The fact that the spies were chosen by Moshe Rabbeinu, and “at that time they were righteous” [as it says in Parashas Shelach] – shows that their argument had some merit. The Alter Rebbe explains that they believed that for a person to devote himself to Divine service, it was preferable to live the way they lived in the desert, where all their needs were provided for, rather than living in Eretz Yisrael, where they would have to spend time earning a livelihood. Moshe’s response was that, “The land is very, very good”: Hashem’s true will, and the ultimate purpose of studying Torah and performing mitzvos, is to transform even the mundane aspects of life into “Eretz Yisrael,” imbued with Torah and mitzvos. The lesson for graduating students and counselors is that the purpose of their learning is to take what they learned and stand on their own feet, to influence the world around them and to influence and guide those under their care etc. in accordance with what they have learned. And in this merit, they will be blessed with all that they need.Excerpt from sichah of Thursday, Parashah Shelach, 24 Sivan 5728, to the graduating students of Bais Rivkah, and the counselors of Camp Emunah and Pardes Chanah For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=28-06-2024

It is specifically by recognizing that all success comes from Hashem that one truly brings “blessing into your home.” On the surface, it doesn’t seem that way, because a non-Jew has bread even without separating Challah; but this external appearance is avodah zarah (“foreign service”); it is foreign from the truth. It only appears this way so that a Jew, with his free choice, can recognize and reveal that Hashem is the Master of Universe and “there is none besides Him.” A Jew nullifies this mistaken appearance of the world not so much by studying Torah and performing mitzvos, but by recognizing, even when “working in the field” etc., that his livelihood comes only from Hashem. Therefore the Sages said, “One who fulfills the mitzvah of Challah is considered as though he nullified avodah zarah” (which implies that before he performed the mitzvah, there was avodah zarah): the world has its nature that appears “foreign” to G-dliness, and the Jew nullifies that “foreignness” by giving the “first portion of your dough” – which seems to come via natural means – to Hashem, thereby proclaiming and revealing that in really, the entire world, including the goyishkeit within it, all comes from Hashem. (Conversely, one who neglects the mitzvah of Challah chas v’shalom upholds this appearance of “foreignness”). And the mitzvah of Challah is primarily entrusted to Jewish women and girls.3 excerpts from sichah of Thursday, Parashas Shelach, 26 Sivan 5736, to the graduating students of Bais Rivkah, and the counselors of Camp Emunah and Pardes Chanah For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=27-06-2024 לע"נ מרת סימא חסיא ע"הבת הרה"ח התמים ר' יצחק הי''דאיטקיןליום היארצייט שלה כ"א סיון. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.
