משיחת אור ליום ג' פ' מקץ, כ"ד כסלו, ערב חנוכה ה'תשמ"ח ב"יחידות כללית" ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=25-12-2024 Synopsis The unique quality of Erev Chanukah is that although all mitzvos are a “lamp of a mitzvah,” it is specifically in the mitzvah of Chanukah candles that it can be seen openly, even by the physical eye, that the mitzvah illuminates the world, to the extent that even a goy sees it. This gives a Jew the strength to overcome the confusion and the goy’s argument about the purpose of fulfilling mitzvos during the time of exile, etc. – because even the goy sees clearly the impact of the mitzvah. And this is the advantage of Erev Chanukah, when we prepare for the days of Chanukah. Moreover: the law is that the first candle is lit in shul already on Erev Chanukah, hours before Chanukah begins, and in the presence of a minyan etc. And although only one person is doing the lighting, it illuminates for everyone. Additionally, since “The one who responds Amen is greater than the one who makes the bracha,” it follows that everyone responding “Amen” after the bracha has a connection to the lighting, and in a manner of “greater.”Excerpt from sichah of Monday night, Parashas Mikeitz, 24 Kislev, Erev Chanukah 5748 – in Yechidus Klalis For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=25-12-2024

חלק מהמאמר (כעין שיחה) ד"ה רני ושמחי בת ציון, נר ה' דחנוכה ה'תש"ל ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=24-12-2024 Synopsis The Torah describes Yosef’s descent to Egypt in great detail, because his descent there is what empowered the Jewish people not to get stuck in Egypt etc. The Tzemach Tzedek explains that this is (1) because the Shechinah descended to Egypt with Yosef, and (2) because Yosef was the ruler in Egypt. And the Tzemach Tzedek adds a wondrous aspect in the name of the Rem”a – that as a result of Yosef’s rulership over Egypt, the sustenance during the seven years of plenty was channeled not through Egypt’s heavenly minister, but through the Shechinah via Yosef – and it could be said that this refers not only to the sustenance of the Jewish people, but also the sustenance of the Egyptians and the entire world. Additionally, it could be said that when Pharaoh told Yosef, “Only by the throne will I be greater than you,” it refers to Pharaoh in the spiritual sense, “the uncovering of all lights,” a level of holiness that transcends all measure and limitation. It is specifically from this high level that the sustenance could come to Egypt without concern etc. and this is what gave the people the ability to “empty out Egypt.” Similarly, it is specifically in this final exile that the inner dimension of Torah is revealed, which is a taste of the Torah of Moshiach, and by studying it – we come to the revelation of the reasons of the Torah through Moshiach etc.Excerpt from Maamar (k’ein sichah) Rani V;simcha Bas Tzion, 5th night of Chanukah 5730 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=24-12-2024 לזכות הרב יעקב בן הינדא שי' צירקוס ליום ההולדת שלו כ"ג כסלולשנת ברכה והצלחה ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

כמה חלקים מהתוועדות אור לכ"ט אלול ה'תשמ"ג, ערב ר"ה ה'תשד"מ ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=23-12-2024 Synopsis On the phrase (cited at the beginning of Tanya), “an oath is administered to him (mashbi’in oiso) to be righteous…,” the Tzemach Tzedek explains that mashbi’in is related to the word sova (satiation), as well as the word shvua (oath), because it empowers a person – in a way that satiates him, and with the quality of an oath, which comes from the inner dimension of Atik – for his general service with his yetzer tov (“be righteous”) and the yetzer hara (“do not be wicked”). Therefore, every Jew can rightfully say, “When will my deeds reach the deeds of my forefathers, Avraham, Yitzchak, and Yaakov?” – because when it comes to practical action (“my deeds”) performed with kabbolas ol and simple faith, all Jews are equal. Moreover, the pure simplicity of the Divine Essence is revealed specifically in the pure simplicity of a simple Jew. When the Torah reveals something, that means that is the reality; the fact that there are “horses” who think only about the “straw” doesn’t change that reality. And for those who protest, how can you call someone a horse, especially on Erev Rosh Hashanah – the truth is that this is a matter of judging Jews favorably: when a Jew says certain things, we say it wasn’t him who said it, but the horse inside him, and you can’t complain against a horse for being a horse.Excerpts from farbrengen of 29 Elul 5743 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=23-12-2024 לזכות שטערנא שרה בת מושקא שתחי' ליום ההולדת שלה כ"ב כסלו - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

משיחת יום א' דפ' וישב, כ' כסלו ה'תשל"ז ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=22-12-2024 Synopsis Being that 19 Kislev is the Rosh Hashanah of Chassidus – we must do something that relates particularly to Chassidus: the Rebbe Rashab instituted that wherever there are Chassidim, or Jews in general (whom we must hope will soon start learning Chassidus), there should be someone who takes upon himself the role of mashpia – to spread Chassidus, show people a path in Divine service, and be there for people to share their struggles etc. Therefore, immediately after this farbrengen, suitable individuals should be chosen for this role, or volunteer for it, and they should begin serving in this capacity immediately, whether in the realm of Torah, Service, Acts of Kindness, or all three. This applies to anyone who is suitable, or even if he isn’t sure if he’s suitable, and nobody should have false humility chas v’shalom. It should be with the condition that it’s on a trial basis; if it turns out that there is someone else more suitable for the role, he should willingly hand it over to them etc. And this should be done wherever this request and plea is being heard now, and wherever it will be communicated later.Excerpt from sichah of Sunday, Parashas Vayeshev, 20 Kislev 5737 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=22-12-2024 לזכות יהודית ברכה בת שטערנא שרה שתחי' ליום ההולדת שלה כ"א כסלולשנת ברכה והצלחה רבה ומופלגה בכל בגו"ר מתוך בריאות נכונה ומנוחת הנפש והגוףנדבת הורי' ר' חיים ברוך ושטערנא שרה שיחיו אלבסקי

(2) Toiling “in acts of kindness” comes after “toiling in Torah,” and it must be done according to Torah: As we saw in Germany, where there were many groups advocating against cruelty to animals, who were unable to bear see a cat or dog suffer, but at the same time they treated human beings with utter cruelty Rachmana litzlan. And they “toiled” in it like a business – spending their whole day thinking of ways to cause suffering to other people. Another example is giving a candy to a child for whom it is dangerous; when it comes to educating a child, sometimes you need the “the left hand pushing away,” as the verse says, “He who holds back the rod hates his son” etc. From this we see how crucial it is that acts of kindness not be based on human intellect but rather on Torah. (3) “And one who davens with the congregation”: this means in the literal sense, and also in a deeper sense as explained in Chassidus: gathering all the ten faculties of the soul so that they all stand “like a servant before his master.” This is the directive of Yud-Tes Kislev regarding oneself: to add vitality to one’s service of “Toiling in Torah and acts of kindness and davening with the congregation.” And in this way, we “juxtapose one redemption to another redemption” – from the redemption of Yud-Tes Kislev to the true and complete Redemption with the coming of Moshiach.Excerpt from sichah of Thursday, Parashas Vayeshev, 19 Kislev 5745. ב' חלקים משיחת יום ה' פ' וישב, י"ט כסלו ה'תשמ"ה ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=19-12-2024 Synopsis When a Jew is involved in such broad things like impacting not only the entire Jewish people, but even the non-Jews, to keep their mitzvos, he might forget about making sure his own conduct is in order. Here we have a lesson from the verse, “He redeemed my soul in peace…”, on which the Sages said: “The Holy One, blessed be He, said: Whoever toils in Torah and acts of kindness and davens with the congregation – I consider it as if they redeemed Me and My children from among the nations of the world.” (1) “Toiling in Torah” means toiling the same way as someone who owns a business: he doesn’t wait at home for customers to come to him, but proactively goes out to find the customers and does everything he can to convince them to buy his goods. Moreover, the owner doesn’t pay attention to the clock – he doesn’t mind if customers come even after business hours. And he is so preoccupied with his business that he thinks about it even when eating and drinking, and even in his sleep. Similarly, this must be the approach to Torah study – not just “learning,” and not just like someone forced to do it, who does only the minimum required, but rather “toiling” in it – “he is always obsessed with its love.” (2) “And in acts of kindness”: Acts of kindness must also be conducted like a business – without waiting for the poor person to come and beg for tzedakah, but rather feeling the other person’s situation as if it were his own and proactively seeking to alleviate it. ב' חלקים משיחת יום ה' פ' וישב, י"ט כסלו ה'תשמ"ה ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=18-12-2024 Synopsis Today’s Chumash (Thursday of Parashas Vayeishev) discusses Yosef’s greatness in that even in exile in the house of his Egyptian master, he became a “successful man.” On this verse, the Midrash explains that Yosef was a “jumping person” – which refers to the Divine service of “jumping,” where “both feet are off the ground”: When one serves Hashem with only kindness or only restraint, it could mean that his service is motivated only by his natural inclination toward kindness (right) or restraint (left), and thus one “foot” is “on the ground” and one is not. But “jumping” means both feet are off the ground – both sides serve Hashem and are elevated above materiality. This shows that he is not motivated by his own nature, but only by the will of His Creator. And when he does so, “Yosef had handsome features and a beautiful appearance” – perfection in the positive mitzvos (the right side) as well as the negative mitzvos (the left side). This is an appropriate time to mention the importance of the Mivtzoim, starting with Mivtza Chanukah, as well as the other Mivtzoim: Ahavas and Achdus Yisrael, Chinuch etc.2 excerpts from sichah of Thursday, Parashas Vayeshev, 19 Kislev 5745 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=18-12-2024 לזכות צביה בת חיה ריסה שתחי' ונגר ליום ההולדת שלה י"ז כסלו - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

ב' חלקים משיחת י"ג ניסן ה'תשל"ח ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=17-12-2024 Synopsis Regarding the sale of Yosef [in shelishi of Parashas Vayeshev], the Yerushalmi states: “Hashem said to the shevatim: You sold the son of Rachel for twenty pieces of silver; therefore, each one of you will be required to give one bekka per head...thus it is written, “one bekka per head, half a shekel.” As the commentaries explain, there were ten shevatim present when of Yosef was sold (because Binyamin wasn’t there), so the “twenty pieces of silver” (5 shekels) amounts to half a shekel for each shevet. The question is, we also know that Reuven wasn’t there when Yosef was sold, so why is the amount divided into ten? This can be answered in two ways: (1) Pirkei d’Rabbi Eliezer states that when Reuven learned of what had happened, he remained silent and did not protest. Therefore, he is also considered part of the transaction, and he is also required to give a half-shekel. The lesson is that one must love every Jew, even if you heard something negative about another Jew, the very fact that you heard about it shows that the negative aspect exists within you to some degree – similar to Reuven, who had to participate in the atonement for the sale by virtue of having heard about it. (2) Yosef brought about his own sale by continuing to talk about his dreams etc.; therefore he is also included in the atonement and he also must give half a shekel. The lesson is that one must love every Jew, even a Jew who has caused you pain, similar to Yosef who had to atone for the brothers’ sin of selling him to Egypt.Excerpt from sichah of 13 Nissan 5738 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=17-12-2024

משיחת יום ה' פ' וישב, י"ט כסלו ה'תשמ"ה ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=16-12-2024 Synopsis The Gemara says that in the future era, “Each and every one will be burned by the canopy of his fellow” (even then, every tzaddik will have “310 worlds” of their own, to the point that they will be “burned” by their fellow’s). This can be explained in a positive sense based on the verse in Parashas Vayeishev, “His brothers were jealous of him….” Seemingly, how is it possible that sons of Yaakov could feel jealousy? Rather, it is similar to Rachel’s being “jealous of her sister”; as Rashi explains, she was “jealous of her good deeds. She said, ‘Were it not that she is more righteous than I, she would not have merited children.’” As the Tzemach Tzedek explains, this is like “the jealousy of scholars, which increases wisdom,” akin to the idea that Torah is acquired through the “debate of the students” – a form of “jealousy” where one presents an idea, another refutes it and offers an alternative explanation, and so forth until they arrive at the true resolution. It is specifically through this process that “wisdom is increased.” This dynamic was also reflected in the special relationship between the Maggid of Mezritch and his disciple, the Alter Rebbe, which was in the manner of “And his brothers were jealous of him,” to the point that “his father awaited the matter” etc.: the Maggid told the Alter Rebbe: “Yud-Tes Kislev is our Yom Tov” (and it later emerged that Yud-Tes Kislev was the yahrtzeit of the Maggid and the day of liberation of the Alter Rebbe).Excerpt from sichah of Thursday, Parashas Vayeshev, 19 Kislev 5745 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=16-12-2024 לזכות מנחם מענדל הכהן בן רוזה חנה שי' ליום ההולדת שלו ט"ו כסלו – לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובותנדבת אביו ר' אברהם הכהן שי'

They should arrange a place where women can learn the laws and customs properly, and print publications in the local language, which should be compiled by those who are experts in both the laws and in their ability to translate them properly and accurately. They should be well written, in a way that will engage the readers and inspire them to keep the laws in practice. They should also include the addresses of all the kosher mikvahs in the city. The organization should also maintain contact with the rabbis officiating marriages in the city, to find out who is getting married, and to find ways to encourage them to build their homes upon the foundations of Torah and mitzvahs. Since “The heart of the Jewish people is awake,” they will certainly find success, and also use the opportunity to discuss all the mitzvos that depend primarily on the woman of the home.Excerpt from sichah of 14 Kislev 5739 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=15-12-2024

This can be explained according to the Tzemach Tzedek’s explanation (based on the Shaloh), that “for with my staff” (כי במקלי) is an acronym for “Blessed is the Glory of Hashem from His Place, for Your Salvation I Hope, Hashem” (ברוך כבוד י' ממקומו לישועתך קויתי י). The Tzemach Tzedek explains that this is like the verse, “…Tzedakah and Mishpat You made in Yaakov” – Yaakov was able to ask for Hashem’s salvation because he deserved it by law and justice (Mishpat), but nevertheless, due to his complete bittul (“I have become small”), he requested it as an act of Tzedakah. And when one has the ability to demand out of Mishpat, but nevertheless chooses to ask out of Tzedakah, he is given from above without measure or limitation. These are the two aspects expressed in the acronym: “for Your salvation I hope, Hashem” is a request for Tzedakah, while “Blessed is the Glory of Hashem from His Place” is an unlimited blessing from “His place” – the true place of Hashem’s glory, reaching down to the lowest level.Excerpt from sichah of 19 Kislev 5726 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=13-12-2024

It is specifically through this descent below that the essence is revealed, thus fulfilling the ultimate purpose of creation – the task that Adam Harishon was supposed to accomplish but didn’t, and that was completed at Matan Torah. Just that Matan Torah was primarily the revelation of the revealed dimension of Torah, whereas Chassidus Chabad reveals the inner dimension of Torah. This is akin to the effect of nisuin, where the father’s essence is conveyed through a physical drop, as opposed to erusin. Accordingly, it is also understood that drawing down the Divine essence occurs primarily through the inner dimension of Torah, the life of Torah – a “living organ” etc. Since Chassidus Chabad draws down the essence in the “drop,” it is understood that the main thing here is (not so much the understanding, but) absorbing it, which makes possible the “birth” of love and fear etc. And all this is possible for every one of us. The only condition is to “hold on to the Rebbe’s door handle,” that is, not even the door itself – so that even when one isn’t “inside,” he knows that come what may, he will hold on to the handle, and then the Rebbe will extricate him and uplift him high above etc.Excerpts from farbrengen of 19 Kislev 5712. And in our generation, when “all the end times have passed” and all of “our deeds and our service” have already been completed, the Redemption is coming truly imminently. This is the connection to the end of Parashas Vayeitzei, where Yaakov is ready for the true and complete Redemption, which is it is immediately followed at the beginning of the next parashah with “Yaakov sending angels before him to Esav, his brother,” because “he thought that Esav had already been elevated” and that Esav, too, was ready for the Redemption. (Yaakov wanted to draw down the lights of Tohu (Esav) into the vessels of Tikkun (Yaakov), similar to how it is explained that the concept of Redemption is that Ma”h (Tikkun) redeems Ba”n (Tohu), etc.) Although it didn’t come about in practice at that time, today, after thousands of years of our deeds and service, it is clear that even “Esav” is ready for the Redemption!Sichah of Thursday night, Parasha Vayeitzei, 10 Kislev 5750 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=11-12-2024 לזכות שלום הכהן בן פריידא שי' ליום ההולדת שלו י' כסלו - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות*לע"נ מרת נעכא רבקה ע"ה בת ר' חיים הי"ד נפ' יו"ד כסליו ה'תשס"ד.

(Further examination is required as to why we don’t find this with other tzaddikim.) Being that “the Nasi is everything”, it is understood that this quality extends to all who follow in his ways. His yahrzeit, when all the “service he worked throughout his entire life…is revealed and shines openly…and works salvations in the midst of the earth,” empowers us to bring the positive resolutions made on this day to fruition.2 excerpts from sichah of 10 Kislev 5740 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=10-12-2024

Nevertheless the Torah commands and teaches that one must know that all of this is merely “sojourning” – it’s only a “temporary residence,” not his true place. A Jew’s true place is in the Holy Land, in the literal sense. All the mitzvos observed during the exile are only “markers” and “signs” of the mitzvos as they will be performed in the future era, when “there we will do according to the command of Your will.” It is similar regarding Torah: although the Torah is a “hidden treasure,” and “whoever reads and studies Torah, the Holy One, blessed be He, reads and studies opposite him” even now – nevertheless it is merely “breath” compared to the Torah of Moshiach, and one must yearn and do everything in his power to bring about that time. But one must not chas v’shalom fall into despair or sadness due to the length of the exile, for one must “serve Hashem with joy,” and Divine service, including the obligation to “Know Him in all your ways” applies 24 hours a day.Excerpt from sichah of Thursday, Parashas Vayeshev, 19 Kislev 5741. And specifically in this way, when the other Jew sees that he is being told the whole truth without compromise, he will trust him and listen to him etc.Excerpt from sichah of 19 Kislev 5741 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=08-12-2024

Because then we have Hashem’s promise that “it will be easy to conquer” like four amos (the seat of the yechidah of the soul). We need only learn from this week’s parshah: even when a Jew sleeps (but as a Jew) – his four amos become Eretz Yisrael, and Hashem “folds” the entire Eretz Yisrael under him, making him owner of it, and bringing peace for his children as well. May it be Hashem’s will that we no longer need to discuss these issues, and that the Jews, having seen that the nations refuse to accept, and having come to their sensing and refusing to make any further concessions, realize that the entire notion of concessions was a mistake, and admit their mistake. And the main thing is to act firmly by “lying upon” the entire Eretz Yisrael. Then we will see the fulfillment of the promise, “The land that you are lying upon, I will give to you and to your descendants,” until “I will bring you back to the land” in the literal sense, speedily in our days.Excerpt from sichah of Motzaei Shabbos Parashas Vayetzei, 9 Kislev 5739 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=06-12-2024 לזכות ר' זלמן מנחם מענדל בן בת שבע שי' פייגענסאהן ליום ההולדת שלו השישים – ה' כסלו ה'תשפ"הלשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות*לזכות דובער בן שיינא שי' ליום ההולדת שלו ה' כסלו - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובותנדבת משפחתו שי'

When non-Jews come with claims etc., there’s no need to fight them or argue, but to simply declare that you desire “to lie down” and “rest” upon it – over the entire four hundred parsah by four hundred of Eretz Yisrael, which lies beneath every single Jew, as a descendant of Yaakov Avinu. The fact that weapons and the like are needed is because, practically speaking, we are in exile, and there is a separate law in Hilchos Shabbos not to “open the land to them,” etc. But regarding Eretz Yisrael itself, every single step of it is part of the land that Yaakov was “lying upon,” and it belongs to the Jewish people. The Jewish people must only declare and insist on “lying upon it” – upon the entire Eretz Yisrael. In this way, it will be “easy to conquer” in a practical sense. Thus, when Rashi says that the miracle of folding the land under Yaakov was a hint to him that the land would be easy to conquer, he is talking about an incomparably greater miracle than the Gemara, which states only that the miracle occurred “so that the land would be easy for his descendants to conquer for,” meaning if and when they decide to conquer it and take action toward that goal. But according to Rashi, the miracle hinted to Yaakov that (1) they will in fact desire to conquer it, and (2) when they do so, it will be as “easy for his descendants to conquer it” as simply as “lying upon it.”[To be continued.]Excerpt from sichah of Motzaei Shabbos Parashas Vayetzei, 9 Kislev 5739 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=05-12-2024

The answer is: The expression, “the land that you are lying upon I will give to you” doesn’t necessarily imply that he was lying on the entire land, because you can explain that it merely indicates which land it means. Similarly, in the verse, “For the entire land that you see I will give to you etc.,” you can explain that this expression merely indicates which land. (Additionally, before that verse, it says, “Raise your eyes and see,” which could mean that Avraham was told to climb up a mountain from where he could in fact see the entire land). The question in this verse, then, is why does it say, “[the land that] you are lying upon” at all: why didn’t it simply say, “this land”? Especially considering that “lying down” connotes the opposite of conquering? Rashi addresses this by explaining that the miracle here was expressed specifically in the fact that he was “lying upon it” – upon the entire land – hinting to him that his descendants’ conquest of the land would be as easy and effortless as lying down. This is the advantage of the promise to Yaakov over the promise to Avraham who, to demonstrate his ownership of the land, had to put in effort, “Rise, walk in the land, along its length and breadth etc.” [To be continued.]Excerpt from sichah of Motzaei Shabbos Parashas Vayetzei, 9 Kislev 5739 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=04-12-2024 לע"נ הרה"ח הרה"ת ר' מרדכי דוב ב"ר צבי הירש ע"ה אלטיין ליום היארצייט שלו ג' כסלו. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

[המשך יבוא]משיחת מוצאי ש"פ ויצא, ט' כסלו ה'תשל"ט ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=03-12-2024 Synopsis On the verse (in rishon of Parashas Vayetzei), “the land that you are lying upon I will give to you,” Rashi says: “The Holy One, blessed be He, folded the entire Eretz Yisrael under him. He hinted to him that it would be easy for his descendants to conquer it.” Seemingly, the difficulty in the verse is that it says, “the land that you are lying upon,” which implies that he was lying on the entire Eretz Yisrael, and therefore Rashi explains that the entire Eretz Yisrael was folded under him. As the commentaries on Rashi explain, the implication is that the entire Eretz Yisrael would be as easy for Yaakov’s descendants to conquer as an area of four cubits (the area taken up by a human body). However: (1) Based on this, the main point is missing from Rashi: Rashi only says it will be “easy to conquer,” without specifying that it will be “as easy as four cubits.” (2) In his heading to this comment, Rashi quotes only the words “lying upon,” but not “the land.” This indicates that Rashi’s explanation is derived not from “the land” but only from the words “lying upon.” (3) An earlier verse about Avraham states, “For the entire land that you see I will give to you etc.” Why doesn’t Rashi similarly address there (as the Zohar does) how it was possible for Avraham to see “the entire land” from one place? (4) The Gemara says, “This teaches that He folded…so that it would be easy for his descendants to conquer,” meaning the miraculous folding of the land caused it to be easy for them. But Rashi here says only that, “He hinted to him that it would be easy,” meaning this whole tremendous miracle didn’t actually effect anything, but only hinted to him what was going to happen? Similarly, through “your seat being empty (yipaked)”, you are “remembered” (“v’nifkadeta”). And similarly, as a result of the soul’s descent below, it is later elevated to become a mehalech. This is also the significance of the month of Kislev, whose name is comprised of “kes” and “36”: as a result of kes, which means covered and hidden, we reach the ultimate revelation, represented by the number 36, which is 6 times 6 (each of the six attributes comprised of all six). Moreover, 36 is the gematria of the word Eileh (“These”), which connotes revelation. The month of Kislev is full of special days: 9 Kislev, 10 Kislev, 19 Kislev, the days of Chanukah, which also extend into Teves – “the month when the body takes pleasure in another body,” and the entire Jewish people call this month “the month of redemption.”2 excerpts from sichah of Rosh Chodesh Kislev, 5752 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=01-12-2024 לע"נ ר' יהודה בן משה יעקב ע"ה ביסטאן ליום היארצייט שלו אדר"ח כסלו. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

He will save us and He will redeem us . . . I am Hashem your G-d!” The fact that during the exile the Jewish people require the help of the non-Jewish nations is only because Hashem wants it to be that way; a Jew should not feel down because of it, and certainly he shouldn’t be embarrassed of his Yiddishkeit or sacrifice any part of Yiddishkeit G-d forbid, but to the contrary – one should be proud of it! And we should show the world that “There is one nation,” that even in exile, “their laws differ from [those] of every nation,” just like Mordechai who “neither kneeled nor prostrated himself!” This must be expressed in every detail of daily life, and we must educate our children in this fashion. This is the only way in which the non-Jews will respect the Jewish people, and they will be happy that they have the privilege to help them.Excerpt from sicha of Monday, Parashas Noach, second day of Rosh Chodesh Marcheshvan 5743 – to women and girls. Seemingly, being that Noach’s Teivah represents the words (“teivos”) of Torah and Tefillah, and the state in the Teivah was a taste of the days of Moshiach when “the wolf will live with the lamb” etc.; why was Noach commanded to leave the Teivah? The answer is that “the Holy One, blessed be He, desired to have a dwelling place for Him in the lower realms,” which is accomplished specifically by a Jew’s service with the physical reality outside the Teivah. Therefore, while the first step of one’s service is to “enter the Teivah” – the words of Tefillah, and then “from the synagogue to the study hall” – the words of Torah – but afterwards, once he has been empowered by the words of Torah and Tefillah, he must “conduct himself with them according to the way of the world”: to infuse “the world” with “the way of the world” – by “keeping the way of Hashem.” Therefore, one must “conduct himself with them etc.” – a Jew must be a leader of the world, and not the reverse, chas v’shalom. This is the lesson from 27 Marcheshvan.Excerpt from sichah of Motzaei Shabbos Parashas Chayei Sarah, 27 Marcheshvan 5740 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=28-11-2024 לע"נ הרה"ח הרה"ת הרב ארי' ליב ב"ר יצחק מיכל ע"ה קרעמער – מנהל ישיבת תות"ל מונטרעאל יותר מיובל שנהליום היארצייט שלו כ"ז מרחשון.

ב' חלקים משיחת יום ה' פ' נצבים, כ"ו אלול ה'תשמ"ה - לנשי ובנות ישראל תחיינה ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=27-11-2024 Synopsis The very fact that the Jewish people are in exile and “the least numerous of all the peoples” must evoke in them a feeling of strength and pride, in that despite all the difficulties and challenges, they stand strong and conduct themselves according the Torah in their daily lives, and in a way that is recognizable even when they walk in the street. This brings them respect and honor in the eyes of the nations, and most importantly – it brings increased blessings from Hashem. The end of today’s daily Tehillim states, “I went astray like a lost lamb; seek Your servant, for I did not forget Your commandments.” The lamb refers to the Jewish people, “a scattered lamb is the Jewish people.” When a Jew makes an accounting of the outgoing year, and reaches the conclusion that he strayed momentarily from the path of Torah (as a result of being in exile, “scattered”) – he should not feel dejected, because it is certain that Hashem, the “Faithful Shepherd” is “seeking His servant” – looking and searching for the lamb to return it to its place. And the truth is that even when a Jew strays, “I did not forget Your commandments” (the fact that he didn’t keep a certain mitzvah properly is only because he strayed and thought he didn’t have the ability to do it). This is expressed in the fact that “I love Your Torah! All day it is my conversation, as it says at the beginning of today’s Tehillim: even when one isn’t engaged in Torah – his conversation is about the Torah’s preciousness.2 excerpts from sichah of Thursday, Parashas Nitzavim, 26 Elul 5745 – to Nshei Ubnos Chabad For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=27-11-2024

Similarly, there were fifteen years when the three Avos of Chassidus – the Baal Shem Tov, the Maggid, and the Alter Rebbe – were alive at the same time. (The Alter Rebbe was born in 5505 (1745), and the Baal Shem Tov passed away in 5520 (1760).) It further says that during that time, the Avos spent (only) 15 hours a day learning Torah together, with the remaining hours of the day designated for their physical needs. (The time used for physical needs wasn’t suitable for Torah study, which must be done “with reverence and fear and trembling and sweat.”) But obviously, they still served as a “chariot” for G-dliness the entire day, even when they were involved in physical matters. Likewise, Chassidus demands that a Jew serve Hashem with his physical matters as well.2 excerpts from sichah of 19 Kislev 5722 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=26-11-2024 לע"נ מרת שרה שפרה ע"ה - בת יבלחט"א ר' בנימין זאב הלוי שי' - צירקוס ליום היארצייט שלה כ"ה מרחשון. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

Similarly, even one whose yetzer overtakes him, causing him to become a “muad” Rachmana litzlan – he can revert to his “tam” status even with the most minor positive change – even a thought of teshuvah etc. And he then attains a level even higher than that of a comlete tzaddik (i.e., one who remained a “tam” from the outset). One of the advantages of baalei teshuvah is that “They cry out and are answered immediately”; therefore, in our time, when “Because of our sins we have been exiled from our land,” and our service is that of baalei teshuvah, we must cry out for Moshiach and demand: How is it possible that he still has not come?! משיחת מוצש"פ חיי שרה, מבה"ח כסלו – בחדרו הק' – ה'תשל"ח ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=24-11-2024 Synopsis On the verse, “These are the descendants of Yitzchak,” Rashi says, “Yaakov and Esav who are mentioned in the parashah.” In essence, Esav has no existence other than being “mentioned in the parashah,” just like the “descendants of Yitzchak” – who causes laughter by transforming darkness to light and making a dwelling for Hashem in this world. Even when the soul (Yaakov) descends to the level of “descendants,” to this world where it finds itself in a “parashah” in the sense of hafrashah – separated from its root, and where it seems that Esav does exist – it has the ability, through Torah study (“in the parashah”) to perceive openly that Esav’s entire existence is only for the “descendants of Yitzchak,” and to be “mentioned in the parashah,” and for Esav and the nations themselves to perceive this, to the point that they assist the Jewish people in their service in general, and all the more so in the Holy Land.Excerpt from sichah of Motzaei Shabbos Parashas Chayei Sarah, Shabbos Mevarchim Kislev 5738 – in the Rebbe’s room For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=24-11-2024 לע"נ ר' זאב ארי' ב"ר שמעי' ע"ה קרינסקי, ליום היארצייט שלו כ"ג מרחשון. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

משיחת אור לכ' מרחשון ה'תשמ"א ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=22-11-2024 Synopsis On the verse in chamishi of Parashas Chayei Sarah, “And Yitzchak brought her to the tent of Sarah his mother etc.,” Rashi states, “…for as long as Sarah was alive, a candle burned from Erev Shabbos to Erev Shabbos, a blessing was found in the dough, and a cloud was attached to the tent. When she died, these things ceased, and when Rivkah arrived, they resumed.” This alludes to the three mivtzoim that apply particularly to women (as we’ve been discussing lately): (1) Shabbos candles; (2) Kashrus; (3) Taharas Hamishpacha (“a cloud attached to the tent” refers to modesty, as it says, “a locked garden is my sister my bride”). At the time, Rivkah was three years old; this indicates that there’s no need to wait until marriage, rather this can begin at age three. Moreover, although after Sarah’s passing, Avraham lit Shabbos candles, nevertheless, the fact that “a candle burned from Erev Shabbos to Erev Shabbos” happened only as a result of the Shabbos candles lit by Rivkah, a three-year-old girl.Excerpt from sichah of 20 Marcheshvan 5741 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=22-11-2024 לזכות ר' חיים ברוך בן דוואניא שי' ליום ההולדת שלו כ"ב מרחשוןלשנת ברכה והצלחה רבה ומופלגה בכל בגו"ר מתוך בריאות נכונה ומנוחת הנפש והגוף

משיחת אור לכ' מרחשון ה'תשמ"א ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=21-11-2024 Synopsis Every Jew must have physical abundance and open and revealed good (like the story of the Tzemach Tzedek – when a chasid brought him a gift of painted furniture, the Tzemach Tzedek said that he doesn’t need it, but that the chasid should give it to his son, the Rebbe Maharash). But at the same time, physical abundance shouldn’t be one’s passion and focus in life. As Chassidim said of the Ruzhiner, he conducted himself opulently, to the point that he wore golden slippers, but without soles – so it hurt when he walked! At least once a day or once a week, one must take time alone to picture the image of his great-grandfather, whose whole vitality in life was Torah and mitzvos, and to bring about the same in his own life, at least during those moments. This will impact his behavior throughout the entire day; although “darkness covers the other etc.,” and everyone sees the “nations provoking one another,” still everyone knows that even during exile in this physical world, “from where will my help come” (from the level of Ayin), and “Behold the Guardian of the Jewish people will neither sleep nor slumber” – “Behold” is an expression of joy – serving Hashem with joy, which breaks through boundaries etc.Excerpt from sichah of 20 Marcheshvan 5741 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=21-11-2024 לזכות ר' שלום דובער בן רבקה צירה שי' ליום ההולדת שלו כ' מרחשון - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

In this case: even though this farbrengen is in connection with an event that occurred 120 years ago in some Russian town, it must be “remembered” – a person must disconnect from his surrounding and relive it anew, and in such a way that leads to action – “and observed”: as a chasid of the Nasi of our generation, you must bring himself to the feeling that your only identity is that of being a chasid of the Nasi of our generation! And the truth is, this applies not just to a day like this; in general, it is appropriate from time to time – and even better, every day – to spend a few moments alone and bring oneself to the feeling that he is standing now at Har Sinai and receiving the Torah anew! And “Just as there, it was in reverence, fear, and trembling, and sweat, so too here” – to the point that one actually begins to sweat.Excerpt from sichah of 20 Marcheshvan 5741 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=20-11-2024

And the only reason it’s not the case that “when they have not yet called, I will respond” is so that the fulfillment of one’s needs doesn’t come as “bread of shame”: one must at least put in the minimal effort of his “little finger” – at least beginning to daven.2 excerpts from sichah Monday night, Parashas Chayei Sarah, 20 Marcheshvan 5742 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=19-11-2024 לזכות התמים מנחם מענדל שי' מאצקין לרגל הכנסו לגיל המצוות ביום ח"י מרחשון ה'תשפ"הנדבת הוריו ר' פרץ וחי'ה מושקא שיחיו מאצקין

א' השיחות דהתוועדות יום ג' פ' חיי שרה, כ' מרחשון ה'תשל"ה ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=18-11-2024 Synopsis It’s not enough to be an “elder – this is one who has acquired wisdom” who learns Torah for oneself. Rather, one must emulate Avraham, who was “an elder and would sit in yeshiva,” as our Sages derive from the verse “Avraham was old” (in sheini of Parashas Chayei Sarah). That is, one must give Torah classes for the public, and if one isn’t holding there yet, he must make sure there’s a yeshivah in his city where Torah can be studied publicly. As discussed lately regarding Rabban Yochanan ben Zakai’s request to “Give me Yavneh and its Sages” – one must see to it that wherever there is a yeshivah, it should be expanded in quality and quantity, and wherever there is no yeshiva – one should be established. This is especially important now, as our Sages taught, “I am a wall – this refers to Torah” – Torah protects the Jewish people. Since all Jews are one body, one Jew studying Torah wherever he is brings protection to all Jews everywhere. And in this way, we merit the next part of the verse, “and Hashem had blessed Avraham with everything,” and we merit to “see your world in your lifetime” as the Sages said regarding Avraham.Sichah from farbrengen of Tuesday, Parashas Chayei Sarah, 20 Marcheshvan 5735 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=18-11-2024

Rashi addresses this by indicating that the issue was the back and forth: first she was told that “her son had been designated for slaughter,” and immediately afterwards she was told that he wasn’t slaughtered. This caused “her soul to fly out of her” – flying back and forth – and therefore “she died.” (2) The Zohar says that “Kiryas Arba, which is Chevron” refers to the four elements as they are combined together etc. This is the answer to those who argue that when the Rambam says in Hilchos Yesodei HaTorah that everything is comprised of four elements, he took it from non-Jewish sources chas v’shalom: (In addition to the fact that you can’t say such a thing about something the Rambam writes in Yad Hachazakah) – it’s obviously not from non-Jewish sources because it is stated in the Zohar.2 excerpts from sichah of Motza’ei Shabbos Parashas Chayei Sarah 5739 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=17-11-2024

But this level “has died,” and therefore the “creditor” – the yetzer hara, “has come to take my two children” – the love and awe, which are born from the the intellect – “for himself as slaves.” “And Elisha said to her…’what do you have in the house?’ And she said…nothing but a jug of oil.’” The oil is the soul’s inner core; Elisha told her to borrow “empty vessels,” and “not a few,” meaning, although the vessels are empty, as above, nevertheless you must fill them from the inner core, and in this way, “You and your sons will live with the remainder” – the service stemming from the level of Sovev Kol Almin. The lesson is that when a Jew has fallen from his previous level – “one who falls from their level is considered dead” – he shouldn’t become discouraged, because the purpose of the fall is to later rise up to an even higher level. And this happens through the “empty vessels” – the service of teshuvah. But then the opposing side argues that if so, how does he have a head when it comes to doing business etc.…why does he not have the alacrity of “Avraham getting up early in the morning,” but he does have the alacrity of “Bilaam getting up early in the morning?! The response to this argument is that “You have already been preceded by Avraham,” and Avraham bequeaths his alacrity to all his descendants after him. In this country, it is excessive spending on externalities like home decorations and furniture, out of a desire to outdo the neighbors, even if one can’t afford it and has to borrow money, Not to outdo them in to spending on one’s children’s Torah education or sending them to a better yeshiva, but on trivialities. It brings to mind how in the shul of a Russian farming colony, in order to choose who would be the gabbai, they would have a contest to see who could spit the farthest…Inevitably, this problem will result in a family lacking money for true needs, i.e., matters of holiness. The remedy is for the woman of the house to manage household expenses in an orderly fashion, by calculating what is available and what is needed for matters of holiness – and then, even if money remains, to remember the saying that “what is permissible is unnecessary.”Excerpt from sichah of Motzaei Shabbos Parashas Vayeshev, 20 Kislev 5717. And this is the purpose of the bitter exile – to bring out the deep power of the Jewish people to transform darkness to light. This task is called “your work” – it’s not a direct instruction from Hashem, but something chooses on their own, akin to “all your deeds being for the sake of heaven.” Meaning, one doesn’t confine themself in their own home focusing only on their own self and family, but goes out to impact the world as well. And Yirmiyahu promises that “there is reward for your work” – “and they shall come back from the land of the enemy…and the children shall return to their own border.”2 excerpts from sichah of Rosh Chodesh Sivan 5746. ג' חלקים משיחת י"ט כסלו ה'תשכ"ט ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=11-11-2024 Synopsis Our Sages taught, “A person is obligated to say, ‘The world was created for me.’” This indicates that just as one’s service with himself requires that “You shall surely help along with him” – getting the body to participate in the soul’s service “to do righteousness and justice” (as it says in sheini of Parashas Vayera), the same applies to one’s service of impacting the whole world. This can be done by way of example from the body: just as it is in the best interest of the foot (which is greater in quantity) not to do what it wants, but to listen to the head (which is greater in quality) – so, too, you can explain to a person that it is in the body’s best interest not to fulfill its own desires, but to follow the desire of the soul. When it is demanded of a person to restrain himself from fulfilling his desires, he’s not doing a “favor” for someone else, but doing something for his own bodily benefit. With this explanation it’s possible easily “to do in the world” in a manner of “peace.”3 excerpts from sichah of 19 Kislev 5729 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=11-11-2024

ב' חלקים משיחת שמחת בית השואבה ה'תשי"ז ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=10-11-2024 Synopsis [The Rebbe instructed to sing the Niggun Nye Zhuritze Chloptzi, and then explained:] The plain meaning of this niggun is that you shouldn’t worry because when we get to the inn, there will be mashkeh there. The Mitteler Rebbe’s Chassidim would sing this niggun,, and they would add that nevertheless, a little mashkeh is necessary for journey until you get to the inn. The lesson is: the Jewish people are the “handiwork of Hashem,” and therefore they are eternal; even the body of a Jew is holy and was chosen by Hashem, and will also be eternal (which is why every Jew has a portion in the World to Come, the World of Resurrection), and ultimately, “he who is banished will not be cast away” – they will all arrive at their true place, the “inn.” But nevertheless it is demanded of a Jew that until he gets there, he needs a little “mashke” in order to endure the travails of the journey. Similarly, although one knows that the ultimate performance of mitzvos will be only when Moshiach comes, he must not wait until then in order to fulfill them, because in order to get there he needs to keep the mitzvos. Since it is certain that every Jew will become one who learns Torah and keeps mitzvos fully, why should he make it harder for himself and make the journey to the “inn” longer, when he could get there sooner and more comfortably?!2 excerpts from sichah of Simchas Beis Hashoevah 5717 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=10-11-2024

משיחת פורים ה'תשי"ט ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=08-11-2024 Synopsis On the verse, “The Jews had light and joy, and gladness and honor,” the Gemara states, “Gladness refers to circumcision,” as it says, “I am glad over Your word like one who finds great spoil” – a verse about the mitzvah of bris milah. The Rambam states that circumcision weakens the newborn’s desire for this world. And this is the difference between the circumcision performed by gentiles, and the mitzvah of bris milah performed by Jews: for a gentile, circumcision is something painful, which they do only to avoid an even greater pain. But for a Jew, it is a cause for gladness and rejoicing, “like one who finds great spoil.” One obtains “great spoil” by conquering a powerful enemy so decisively that not only does the enemy no longer pose a threat, but the conqueror takes for himself that which previously belonged to the enemy. Similarly, Hashem didn’t create the soul to remain in heaven; rather, He sent it into a body a body and animal soul in this world to engage the world and conquer it, and thereby to take physicality as “great spoil” for holiness by “Knowing Him in all your ways” etc. This is the advantage of working people (over scholars): because they spend the majority of their time engaged in the world, they are the ones who truly take “great spoil” from the world and use it for holiness.Excerpt from sichah of Purim 5719 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=08-11-2024

This is why they would wait until this day to start asking for rain, a law that remains in practice even today. Additionally, in business transactions, when a document sets a time of “after the festival,” without providing a specific date, the default date is 7 Cheshvan. The role of this day, which marks the boundary between the inspiration of Simchas Torah and the beginning of mundane life, is to merge the two, such that the impact of Simchas Torah can be seen in how one lives his daily life. The holiest part of the Beis Hamikdash was the Holy of Holies, the place of the Aron – which housed the Luchos and the Sefer Torah. And this is the function of a yeshiva, especially Tomchei Temimim – to make Torah permeate every Jewish home, with joy and passion.Excerpt from sichah of Tuesday night, Parashas Lech Lecha, Motzaei 7 Cheshvan 5722, to supporters of Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim – in the Rebbe’s room For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=07-11-2024

And although “traveling diminishes procreation, it diminishes money, and it diminishes one’s name,” nevertheless Hashem promised Avraham that “I will make you into a great nation (children) and I will bless you (with money) and I will aggrandize your name…” The lesson is this: one may think that he can accomplish more for Yiddishkeit by remaining in his current place and position of honor, whereas traveling will diminish him etc. But he should know that it is specifically when “you go forth from your land” etc., on a mission of Hashem, that “your name will be aggrandized” physically and spiritually. As we similarly learn from the Sanhedrin: although the members of the Sanhedrin were “exceptionally wise and understanding in the wisdom of the Torah” – nevertheless their job required them to go out and travel among the Jewish cities, to teach the Jewish people and prevent them from committing any sins, ranging from the most severe (if, because of their failure to educate a Jew properly, he ended up sinning and being sentenced to death, they are at fault, and they are called a “destructive Sanhedrin”) to even a minor Rabbinic requirement.Excerpt from sichah of 12 Tammuz 5714 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=06-11-2024 לזכות ר' ארי בן מרים שי' דבורקן ליום ההולדת שלו ה' מרחשוןלשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות*לע"נ ר' אהרן ב"ר יוסף ומרת רחל בת ר' דוד ע"ה ליום היארצייט שלהם ה' מרחשון. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

As it is written, ‘And also Lot, who went with Avram etc.’” The reason Lot had wealth is because he went with Avram. This teaches us the importance of having good neighbors, and especially when it comes to education (which is a timely issue, because this is the time of year when children begin attending school on a regular basis every day, after the month of Tishrei) – it is crucial to send one’s sons and daughters to a school that “Avram” goes to, not one where the “people” go.Excerpt from sichah of 7 Marcheshvan 5746 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=05-11-2024 לע"נ מרת הינדא בת ר' ירוחם פישל ע"ה ליום היארצייט שלה ד' מרחשון. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

But as long as one acts according to his natural desires and doesn’t work on them, he is called “one who does not serve Him.” Only by working on one’s desires and changing his nature – by “going forth from your land…” and by “exiling yourself” – does one become a servant of Hashem. And every single day one must continue to ascend in holiness, increasing in Torah study and increasing the quality and quantity of his mitzvah observance, above and beyond his accomplishments of the day before.Excerpt from sichah of 20 Menachem-Av 5739 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=04-11-2024 לזכות שמואל יעקב הלוי בן חי' שרה שי' ליום ההולדת שלו ג' מרחשוןלשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

Therefore it is cold, and we need special “clothing” to not be affected by it etc. But the Midrash says that before we go to this “faraway place,” Hashem gives us the Yom Tov of Simchas Torah – an exceptionally joyous celebration, which is the “special clothing” that empowers us to embark on the service of the winter, and to fulfill the mitzvos with extra joy and hiddur.3 excerpts from sichah of Tuesday, Parashas Noach, 2 Marcheshvan 5743 – to Tzivos Hashem For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=03-11-2024 לזכות יעקב מנחם בן שושנה שי' וחי' שרה בת שושנה שתחי' ליום ההולדת שלהם בדר"ח מרחשוןלשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

ב' חלקים ממאמר ד"ה וירח הוי' וגו', מוצאי ש"פ נח, אור לז' מרחשון ה'תש"מ ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=01-11-2024 Synopsis The reason (why the covenant with Noach required the aroma of mesiras-nefesh): On the verse “And Hashem remembered Noach etc.” (which took place even before “Hashem smelled the aroma etc.”), it is explained that this remembering came from the inner, essential love; this was the cause for, and inner purpose of, the covenant made with Noach regarding the existence of the world as well: that the world should operate in an “unceasing” manner. Meaning, the eternalness of the Ein Sof and the fact that it is not subject to change should be revealed in the world in such a way that the world assists the Jewish people to perform their divine service in an “unceasing” manner. And this level of Ein Sof is drawn down specifically through the service of mesiras-nefesh, which transcends the service of the Korbanos, and even the service of Ketores. Especially the mesiras-nefesh of the generation of the footsteps of Moshiach, which despite all the concealment and all the challenges still stands strong “forever,” without any change. By deciding during the month of Tishrei to serve Hashem forcefully, in such a way that nothing can weaken one’s service, and doing it with revealed joy (which breaks through all barriers) – we draw down the level of “I have not changed” above, and reveal the inner purpose of the world’s nature – to assist the Jewish people in their divine service.2 excerpts from Maamar Vayarach Havayah, Motzaei Shabbos Parashas Noach, night of 7 Marcheshvan 5740 (continued) For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=01-11-2024 לזכות יהושע אברהם בן בתשבע שי' ליום ההולדת שלו ל' תשרי - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

[המשך יבוא]חלק ממאמר ד"ה וירח הוי' וגו', מוצאי ש"פ נח, אור לז' מרחשון ה'תש"מ ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=31-10-2024 Synopsis The verse states, “And Hashem smelled the pleasant aroma, and Hashem said to Himself, ‘I will no longer curse the earth because of man’…seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” Subsequently, it says, “And I, behold I am setting up My covenant with you…” The Midrash states: “‘And He smelled the pleasing aroma’ – the fragrance of Avraham Avinu rising from the fiery furnace…the aroma of Chanania, Mishael, and Azaria rising from the fiery furnace…the aroma of the persecuted generation,” and it concludes, “This is the meaning of the verse, ‘Such is the generation of those who search for Him, [the children of] Yaakov who seek Your countenance forever.’” My father-in-law the Rebbe explained that this refers to the generation that, despite the double and redoubled darkness of exile, still strives to be “those who seek Your countenance,” and in a manner of “forever.” Seemingly, Noach’s sacrifices were also very lofty; why then did the covenant made with Noach (concerning the existence of the world), have to be based on the mesiras-nefesh of such a generation, including most recently the totally inexplicable episode that occurred with those on a mission for a mitzvah, and specifically after the service of the month of Elul etc. and the rejoicing and dancing with the Torah on Simchas Torah?! ג' חלקים משיחת אור ליום ד' פ' נח, ב' דר"ח מרחשון ה'תשמ"ט ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=30-10-2024 Synopsis Revi’i of Parashas Noach states, “Go out of the Teivah, you and your wife...every living thing that is with you... bring out with you.” Rashi explains, “If they do not wish to come out, you take them out.” This is a lesson for end of the month of Tishrei and beginning of the month of Marcheshvan: Tishrei, a month full of Yomim Tovim, is like the tremendous spiritual state that existed in the Teivah. But at the end of the month comes the command and empowerment to “Go out of the Teivah” and to spread Yiddishkeit throughout the world – the same world that just experienced a “flood” and that did not experience the spiritual state of Tishrei etc. The “animal” within a person argues: why should he leave the four cubits of Torah and tefillah, and engage in worldly matters, etc.; it desires to remain in the “Teivah.” But one must know that Hashem created man for him to make a dwelling place for Him in the lower realms!3 excerpts from sichah of Tuesday night, Parashas Noach, second day of Rosh Chodesh Marcheshvan 5749 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=30-10-2024 לזכות מושקא בת שיינא שתחי' ליום ההולדת שלה כ"ח תשרילשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות

ב' חלקים משיחת מוצש"ק פ' בראשית ה'תשל"ב ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=29-10-2024 Synopsis During the Mabul, for those inside Noach’s Teivah it was like the time of Moshiach; there was peace in the Teivah like the promise, “And a wolf shall live with a lamb…a small child shall lead them.” The lesson is that after Shabbos Bereishis, when “Yaakov goes on his way,” a Jew is expected to leave the shul and study hall, to leave the state of Tishrei, and go out into the world and make a dwelling for Hashem there. He may see that the world is in a shocking state (“bilbul” etc.), with the “many waters” of the Mabul etc. – but he must know that immediately after Shabbos Breishis [comes Parashas Noach] – he is given the power to make a Teivah for himself. So long as he makes the Teivah and enters it, he has no reason to fear the many waters. Moreover: he has the power to bring the entire world into the Teivah, such that “they will not hurt nor destroy,” and he becomes in charge of them.Three excerpts from sichah of Motza’ei Shabbos Parashas Bereishis 5732 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=29-10-2024
