ב' חלקים משיחת ערב חג הפסח ה'תש"נ ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=22-04-2024 Synopsis Today is Erev Pesach, the “first of the festivals”; it is the time of the final preparations for the holiday, including the Korban Pesach and the mitzvah to obliterate chametz. Today is also the Rambam’s birthday (and notably, we don’t know the birthdays of most great Jewish leaders), and therefore it’s an opportunity to once again emphasize the study of the daily Rambam. It is also an opportunity to encourage more study of the teachings of the Tzemach Tzedek, whose yom hilulah is on 13 Nissan, and the efforts toward providing every Jew with all their holiday needs, in such a way that everything is “placed before you.” May it be Hashem’s will that we merit the true and complete Redemption immediately, and go “with heavenly clouds” to our Holy Land, “and eat there from the sacrifices and from the Pesach sacrifices.”2 excerpts from sichah of Erev Pesach 5750 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=22-04-2024

And since “He asks only according to their ability,” surely “Hashem helps him,” and this applies to every Jew. (3) The Tzemach Tzedek devoted himself with mesiras-nefesh to the plight of Jewish children who attended the government schools, as well as that of the Cantonists, children who were torn away from Yiddishkeit at a young age, etc. The lesson is that we must likewise get involved with the plight of such children, and bring them in to “Tzivos Hashem.”Excerpt from sichah of 13 Nissan 5741 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=21-04-2024 לזכות חי' לובא בת ריקל שתחי' ליום ההולדת שלה י"ב ניסן – לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובותנדבת זקני' ר' דוד וזוגתו מרת חנה שיחיו יוניק

ב' חלקים משיחת אור לכ"ט אלול ה'תשמ"ו ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=17-04-2024 Synopsis On the verse [in revi’i of Parashas Metzora, regarding tzara’as on houses], “The kohen shall order that they clear out the house…so that everything in the house should not become unclean,” Rashi states: “For what objects did the Torah have consideration? If it was upon [metal] vessels, let him immerse them, and they will become clean…Hence, the Torah has consideration only for earthenware vessels, which cannot be cleansed in a mikvah.” From here we see the preciousness and importance of a Jew’s physical objects, even something of very little value like earthenware vessels, and even when it belongs to a Jew whose level is such that there’s a possibility that he deserves tzara’as, a particularly severe form of impurity requiring one to “live alone; outside the camp.” This can be tied to the coming of Moshiach Tzidkeinu: Moshiach is called “afflicted, as it is written, ‘But he was pained because of our transgressions, etc.’” and additionally, the Redemption will be in a manner of “their silver and their gold with them.”Two excerpts from sichah of 29 Elul 5746 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=17-04-2024 לזכות ר' משה הכהן בן רוזה חנה שי' ליום ההולדת שלו ט' ניסן – לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובותנדבת אביו ‏ר' אברהם הכהן שי'‏

משיחת אור ליום ועש"ק, שבת הגדול, י"א ניסן ה'תשד"מ ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=16-04-2024 Synopsis A person must utilize the abilities Hashem gives him for the benefit of the entire world, as it says, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and conquer it,” beginning with the mitzvah of “be fruitful and multiple” in the literal sense. As to those who are concerned about livelihood and expenses etc. – the Torah says that every Jew is a “full world” like Adam Harishon, who “was created on Erev Shabbos…in order that he enter into a feast immediately,” with everything prepared for him. When a child is born, his sustenance is born with him. Parents must educate their children in such a way that they, too, will “conquer” the materiality of the world and utilize it for holiness. Jewish education is connected to the Exodus from Egypt, which was the birth of the Jewish nation. Just like the “education” of the Jewish people began immediately at “birth” (“When you bring this people out of Egypt, you shall serve G-d etc.”), so, too, a child’s Jewish education begins long before the formal age of chinuch; it begins immediately upon birth (and even before that), because already then, a child absorbs everything they see and hear.Excerpt from sichah of Thursday night, 11 Nissan 5744 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=16-04-2024

משיחת י"א ניסן ה'תשמ"ג ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=15-04-2024 Synopsis Yechezkel describes the Exodus from Egypt as the birth of the Jewish people as a nation, which indicates the centrality to Pesach of Jewish education (which begins even before the child’s formal education, by establishing an atmosphere in the home of Torah and mitzvos etc.). Therefore, the Seder is designed for the children (“And you shall tell your son…”; “The Torah speaks of four sons…”). Just as the physical aspects of the Seder require preparation before Pesach, so, too, the spiritual aspects. We’ve discussed many times the importance and necessity of providing Jewish children with a proper Jewish education; unfortunately there are tens of thousands of Jewish children who are educated in secular schools; until such time as their parents can be persuaded to transfer them to schools offering a Jewish education – effort should at least be made that public schools should begin the day with a moment of silence, during which the child can reflect on the Creator and Ruler of the world – this is the foundation of education, and it will continue to affect the child “even when he grows old.”Excerpt from sichah of 11 Nissan 5743 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=15-04-2024

ב' חלקים משיחת י"א ניסן ה'תשל"ה ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=14-04-2024 Synopsis Pesach is the time of the birth of the Jewish people (as described in Yechezkel); just as when it comes to the birth of a child, the child’s education begins even before he is born, and before the mother conceives etc., so, too, regarding Pesach: there must be an emphasis on education in the days leading up to Pesach. Indeed, the main focus of the whole Seder is the children, as the Torah says, “And you shall tell your son….” But in practice, we find that specifically in the days before Pesach – when it is so important to prepare the children for the Seder etc. – the schools are closed and the children roam the streets, etc. Instead, efforts should be made to find teachers to gather the children during this time and prepare them for the holiday. Two excerpts from sichah of 11 Nissan 5735 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=14-04-2024 לזכות זעלדא בת חי'ה ריסא שתחי׳ ונגר ליום ההולדת שלה ו' ניסן - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובותנדבת אבי' ר' שמואל שי' ונגר

When a Jew goes on Mivtzoim and speaks from the heart, in which case his words enter the heart and have their effect, it is inevitable that he will also have an effect on someone who turned out to be a non-Jew: when the non-Jew sees that a person gives up of his time and goes in the street to help a stranger, without expecting anything in return – he will likewise be inspired to do good for others. This is clear from the teaching of our Sages, “The Holy One, blessed be He, attaches a good though to an action” – that is, the Jew’s positive thought will lead to action. Moreover: since “The Holy One, blessed be He, does not withhold the reward of any creature” – and, “The reward for a mitzvah is the mitzvah itself” – Hashem will certainly cause the non-Jew to likewise take an interest in the welfare of others, and with time, he will come to be influenced in the same vein as the mitzvah of tefillin itself – “the subjugation of the mind and the heart” to Hashem, which will help him fulfill his seven Noachide laws. Two excerpts from sichah of 11 Nissan 5735 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=12-04-2024

[המשך יבוא]משיחת י"א ניסן ה'תשמ"ג ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=11-04-2024 Synopsis A response to those who come with all kinds of questions regarding the Mivtzaim – the question of what benefit there is in Mivtza Tefillin when one gets a Jew to put on Tefillin one time, and who knows what he will be doing tomorrow – only an am ha’aretz could ask such a question, because we know that by putting on tefillin even once, a Jew is removed from the category of “a skull that has never donned tefillin” and earns a portion in the World to Come (in addition to the fact that every mitzvah connects one to Hashem and has an eternal effect etc.) They also argue: When one asks someone if he’s Jewish and it turns out that’s he’s not Jewish – in that case, not only is there no benefit, but one also embarrass himself etc.? Even if this was true – it is obvious that saving many Jewish lives should not be pushed aside because of this concern. But really: (a) as to the embarrassment argument – if only the people making this argument had the degree of respect and admiration for Mivtzaim that this non-Jew has for the one asking him if he’s Jewish; (b) as to the argument of “idle words” – in addition to the fact that the one making this argument is actually speaking idle words, while the one asking someone if he’s Jewish is doing “idle words” with a good intention, the truth is that asking someone if he’s Jewish will not be in vain because it will have a positive influence on the non-Jew. Regarding a nasi and king of the people, we find two opposites: on the one hand, the king is exalted above and aloof from the people – “the fear of him should be upon you,” and on the other hand – he has the ultimate closeness to the people, for the king is “the heart of all the congregation of the Jewish people,” upon which the body’s life depends, through the blood, which “is the soul,” spreading forth to all the limbs (unlike the brain, which rules over the body’s limbs and lacks movement, which is the sign of life). Moreover: the king’s existence depends on the people – “There is no king without a people,” as emphasized at the king’s coronation when the people proclaim, “Long live the king!” This is also the basis for the emphasis lately on the need to proclaim and demand, “Ad mosai” – it is already time for the coming of Moshiach Tzidkeinu! Therefore, (since a sense of freedom depends on the person, not the circumstances in which he finds himself, as mentioned), we find that there were people in terrible situations who felt free, and conversely, people who apparently had no limits to what they could do, but still lived a life of unparalleled slavery. For example: it was recently in the news that a wealthy man by the name Hughes died. He had two billion dollars and tremendous influence; even governments had to reckon with his opinions etc., but in his personal life he was extremely confined, living in constant fear of being kidnapped or poisoned etc. etc. Meaning, his two billion dollars gave him not freedom but slavery. And ultimately, his money sat without being used. The lesson for every individual, for the time of our freedom (in addition to the lesson that if one has money it shouldn’t sit in the bank, but should be used for good things and making the world a dwelling for Hashem): even when a Jew knows that the United Nations is convening tomorrow, “nations gather and kingdoms think vain things” etc. “against Hashem and against His anointed ones” etc. – one should not be fazed at all. It is the month of redemption, and one’s sense of true freedom depends on himself. When a Jew decides that even in exile, he will make sure to prepare himself and others for a “happy and kosher Pesach holiday,” the “time of our freedom” – then he will see in his own life that the challenges will diminish, and he will be totally freed from exile (spiritually), and ultimately he will see the freedom of the entire Jewish people from the exile in the literal sense. Two excerpts from sichah of 11 Nissan 5736 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=09-04-2024

ב' חלקים משיחת י"א ניסן ה'תשל"ו ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=08-04-2024 Synopsis On Rosh Chodesh Nissan, when the Jewish people heard the “tidings of the redemption,” they were so certain it would be fulfilled that already then, while still in Egypt, it was as though it was fulfilled in practice. To the extent that already on Rosh Chodesh Nissan the month was called the “month of redemption.” The same applies to the true and complete Redemption: even when a Jew knows that we are in an exile of double and redoubled darkness, he can be expected to feel true joy from the fact that it’s the month of redemption – because the state of exile or redemption depends primarily on a person’s mindset, and one can feel freedom even in exile. When a Jew knows that Pharaoh is merely “the axe in the hand of the woodchopper” – and that Hashem put him into exile in order to test him etc., and that it is within his power, by “listening to My voice,” to be immediately redeemed” – for him, it is not a true exile. Moreover: since “the soul never went into exile,” if one makes his soul primary and his body secondary – he is in a state of freedom in the first place. Two excerpts from sichah of 11 Nissan 5736 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=08-04-2024

Nowadays, for whatever reason, when women give birth in the hospital, many aren’t careful to do so in the hospital, and do so only when they come home; it is therefore a mitzvah to raise awareness about the importance of doing so in the hospital itself. And certainly, with even the slightest effort, this can be implemented with the permission of the hospital. Because even medically speaking, successful treatment is linked to the emotional state of the patient; therefore, when it is explained to the doctors that these slips of paper hanging in the delivery room serve to make the mother calm, they will gladly agree to it. Relatedly, it is important to take care that the husband not be in the delivery room during birth etc.Excerpt from sichah of 19 Kislev 5747 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=07-04-2024

ב' חלקים מד"ה החודש הזה לכם, מוצאי ש"פ ויק"פ, פרשת החודש, מבה"ח ניסן ה'תשל"ט ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=05-04-2024 Synopsis The verse states, “This month shall be to you the head of the months; it shall be to you the first of the months of the year.” Why is Nissan considered first in counting the months, while Tishrei is considered Rosh Hashanah with regard to years? Moreover, Targum Yonasan states that before the Torah was given, Tishrei was also the first month; so why did it change after the Torah was given? Especially considering that the first stage of the Exodus from Egypt itself began on Rosh Hashanah, when “our forefathers’ labor in Egypt ceased”? The explanation is: the difference between before and after the Torah was given is that, although it was evident even before the Torah was given that “This palace has a Master,” the revelation was only from name Elokim, and man’s service could only reach as high as the root of created beings – due to the decree that “The upper beings shall not descend below, etc.” However, when the Torah was given and the decree was nullified, the name Havayah was revealed. This is the difference between the months of Tishrei and Nissan: In Tishrei, “our forefathers’ labor in Egypt ceased” – but that’s only the level of “turning away from evil” – the highest level of service after the tzimtzum (which reaches up to the root of the created beings). But the redemption of the month of Nissan is one of complete freedom from all tzimtzum. Therefore, before the Torah was given, Tishrei (when the world was created) was “the first month,” and after the Torah was given it became the month of Nissan. Two excerpts from Maamar Hachodesh Hazeh Lachem, Motza’ei Shabbos Parashas Vayakhel-Pekudei, Parashas Hachodesh, Mevarchim Nisan 5739 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=05-04-2024 לזכות חנה ליבא בת חי' שרה שתחי' ליום ההולדת שלה כ"ו אדרלשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובות ‏

משיחת אור ליום ו' פ' מצורע, י"א ניסן ה'תשל"ג – סיום שנת השבעים לכ"ק אדמו"ר שליט"א ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=04-04-2024 Synopsis The Rambam writes, “Every person must see himself all year round as equally balanced between merit and sin; and so, too, the entire world…If he performs one mitzvah, he tips his balance and that of the entire world to the side of merit and brings deliverance and salvation to himself and others.” One might argue that he knows that he is not “equally balanced,” and if so, how can his one deed tip the balance and affect the entire world? This can be understood based on the explanation earlier, that every single moment (no matter what one’s past may be) is a detail in the overall purpose of all of creation, and therefore, his every deed affects the entire world. And if he argues that he’s a limited being with limited abilities, and if so, how can he succeed? The answer lies in the Exodus from Egypt (which one relives every day during Kerias Shema): Although one may be in the constraints of Egypt and exile, that is how Hashem wanted it, and the same G-d who put him into this situation will be the One to take him out – “And Hashem our G-d took us out from there...” For his part, a person must only decide that he wants it, and then Hashem will do His part and take him out of Egypt.Excerpt from sichah of Thursday night, Parashas Metzora, 11 Nissan 5733 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=04-04-2024

But why it is not enough to have intent to give up one’s soul during Kerias Shema and davening or Torah study; why must one “know Him” in every aspect of life and every moment of the day, all the days of his life? This can be understood based on our Sages’ teaching, “The Holy One, blessed be He, did not create a single thing in His world for naught.” Even the simplest person understands that a good homemaker is one whose home not only has nothing lacking, but also nothing superfluous and unnecessary – everything must have a purpose. And if this applies to flesh and blood, how much more so when it comes to Hashem. Therefore, we can understand why it’s forbidden to allow even one detail or moment in one’s life to be “in vain,” without being utilized for a purpose – “to serve one’s Maker.” And if, chas v’shalom, one passes even a moment without utilizing it – not only has he lost that moment, but he has harmed the purpose of all of creation (Rachmana litzlan).Excerpt from sichah of 11 Nssan 5733 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=03-04-2024 לע”נ ר' שמעון ב"ר יהודה ע"ה גוזלן ליום היארצייט שלו כ"ד אדר שני. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

א' השיחות דהתוועדות י"ט כסלו ה'תשי"ד ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=02-04-2024 Synopsis The Baal Shem Tov once asked one of his chassidim, a simple Jew, to send regards to his disciple (the Maggid of Mezritch) who lived in a town he would be passing through. When he arrived, the townspeople directed him to a teacher named R’ Ber, who was sitting in a small hovel at the edge of the town and teaching Torah to small children. After delivering regards from the Baal Shem Tov, the chassid asked the Maggid how such a holy and righteous man could live in such hardship and poverty, to the point that he didn’t even have a chair to sit on... The Maggid replied, just like you have all your fancy furniture at home, but don’t bring it along with you when you travel, I too, have everything at “home,” but when I “travel” (i.e., in this world), I don’t mind sitting on a tree stump because I know I have everything at home. And this is the answer to those who ask why there are all these distractions from Divine service – the answer is that we are currently “on the road,” and what matters now is not the comfort of the conditions in which we find ourselves, but fulfilling the mission – “we are day workers” – and in the future the inner purpose of it all will be revealed – “I will give thanks to You, Hashem, for You were angry with me…”.Sichah from farbrengen of 19 Kislev 5714 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=02-04-2024 לע"נ מרת חנה פעשא בת ר' מנחם מענדל ע"ה סגל ליום היארצייט שלה כ"ג אדר שני. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

משיחת יום ב' פ' שמיני, כ"ף אדר שני ה'תשמ"ט ל להמשתתפים בקרן לטובת "מחנה ישראל" ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=01-04-2024 Synopsis Parashas Shemini begins with discussing the eighth day of the milu’im, the first day the Mishkan was erected permanently (after a prolonged period during which the Jewish people worked on its construction). Even after they had fulfilled Hashem’s command to build the Mishkan, and they knew that Hashem’s Shechinah dwells among them, Hashem wanted His presence to be openly revealed to the physical eye – “…and the glory of Hashem appeared to all the people…”. The lesson for our times: Hashem wants that even when the Jewish people are “in the desert,” in exile, they should make a Mishkan for Him from physical things, and through this, He dwells among them. And certainly this applies to those in every generation who work on behalf of the community (like Betzalel and Oholiav). And we also learn from here that one should not suffice with the fact that Hashem knows, and that he himself knows what he has accomplished by making a Sanctuary for Him, rather, it must be openly revealed for all to see. And most importantly, Hashem grants additional success and blessing for physical wealth, in a way that Hashem’s blessing is openly seen and felt, so that they can continue to do even more tzedakah etc.Top of FormExcerpt from sichah of Monday, Parashas Shemini, 20 Adar Sheini 5749, to supporters of Machne Israel For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=01-04-2024 לע”נ הרב אליעזר בן הרב מרדכי ע"ה ווענגער ליום היארצייט שלו כ"ב אדר שני. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.

And this applies not only to select individuals, but to every single Jew. And today, after the giving of the Torah, there is no need for seven days of preparation; rather, at every moment, every Jew can attain the state the Jewish people were on “on the eighth day,” and see “the Holy One, blessed be He assisting him” at every step. The Rambam derives this from the verse, “And it shall be for safekeeping for the congregation of the Jewish people.” This idea is also found in the Sefer Hamitzvos of R’ Saadia Gaon, who writes “and the parah for constant safekeeping.” Though some explain that R’ Saadia Gaon (and the verse “for safekeeping”) refer to the portion of the ashes that was “placed in the chayl,” and they further posit that this portion of the ashes is the main aspect of the mitzvah, because it is from this portion that was sprinkled on the kohen gadol before Yom Kippur – when there was an active obligation to become pure – however, this explanation is problematic etc. It stands to reason that R’ Saadia Gaon agrees with the Rambam that the main aspect of the mitzvah is to always have the ashes ready for anyone who needs it. The reason it must always be ready is because the deeper purpose of the parah adumah is teshuvah, which must be done every day.Three excerpts from sichah of Motza’ei Shabbos Parashas Shemini, Parashas Parah 5738 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=29-03-2024

This reflects the two opposite interpretations of the words in the Megillah, “On that night…”: (1) “That night” represents a double concealment; it is not only “night,” but “that night”; (2) “That night” represents a level so lofty and hidden, that it transcends even the level of “He made darkness His hiding place”! And likewise, “the feast of that wicked one” is connected to “the feast” of the one “to Whom end and beginning belong.” Because through the service of transforming “willful transgressions into merits,” one reaches a higher level than through merits themselves. Similarly, the verse states, “I will surely hide My face on that day” – in the future tense: it is specifically our Divine service in the time of exile (when “I will surely hide”) that brings about the future Redemption. And this is also the idea of “And it was reversed etc.” The lesson is: Even someone who finds himself in a state of “that night” in a negative sense, can “reverse it”; indeed, this is precisely the way he will come to the level of “that night” in the positive sense. Two excerpts from sichah of Purim 5725 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=28-03-2024

משיחת ט"ו תמוז ה'תשמ"ה ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=27-03-2024 Synopsis To understand the Rambam, one need not be the age of “fifteen for Gemara”; as the Rambam himself writes in his introduction, his goal is “that all the laws be revealed to young and old alike.” For example, the very first halachah in Rambam: a small child understands plainly that “The foundation of all foundations and the pillar of wisdom” is “to know that there is a Primary Being, and He brings all existence into being.” And it’s not just something the child has by faith, but also intellectually – just as he understands that his parents take care of all his needs and that he must therefore honor them, etc., when his parents tell him that “our Father in Heaven” gives them the ability to provide for him – it is obvious to the child that he must say Modeh Ani and make brachos over his food etc. to thank Him, and he does it wholesomely, without any room for debate etc. Similarly, a Jewish child understands plainly what the Rambam says at the end of his sefer, that, “At that time... the occupation of the whole world will be only to know Hashem…as it written, ‘The earth will be filled with the knowledge of Hashem as the waters cover the sea.’” And the same applies to the rest of the Rambam as well.Excerpt from sichah of 15 Tammuz 5745 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=27-03-2024

At the beginning of the next chapter he writes, “And what is the way to love Him and fear Him, when a person contemplates...to know the great Name etc.” This is the general idea of “Knowing the G-d of your father,” by studying the inner dimension of Torah in a manner of understanding and comprehension. This resembles the state of Moshiach, when, as the Rambam states at the end of his sefer, not only will people (“You are called Man”) “comprehend the knowledge of their Creator” “as the waters cover the sea,” but also “The earth will be filled with knowledge of G-d as waters cover the sea” – even materiality will be permeated with the revelation of G-dliness, as it is written, “The glory of Hashem will be revealed and all flesh will see etc.” (As our Sages taught, “In the future era, if a person goes to pick a fig on Shabbos, it will cry out and say, ‘It is Shabbos today!’”) It is specifically in this way that we reach “the advantage of light from the darkness.”Two excerpts from sichah of Thursday night, 19 Kislev 5744 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=26-03-2024 לזכות מרת שרה מרים בת אסתר תחי' ליום הולדת שלה ט"ז אדר - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובותנדבת בעלה ר' אברהם דוד הכהן שי' טייטעלבוים

ב' חלקים משיחת פורים ה'תשד"מ ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=25-03-2024 Synopsis Our Sages taught, “Every individual is obligated to say, ‘The world was created for me.’” Obviously, this isn’t something that’s supposed to make a person arrogant, but rather to awaken in a person the magnitude of the responsibility placed upon him, knowing that the entire world depends on his behavior. Relatedly, the Megillah relates how “Mordechai was sitting at the king’s gate”; this is a lesson for every Jew, all of whom are member of “Mordechai’s people”: when a Jew in exile finds himself “sitting at the king’s gate” (with influence on the government etc. – in addition to the fact that every Jew “sits at the gate” of the King of the universe, with the mission of making the world, and his own four cubits, a dwelling for Hashem) – it is by divine providence, and the true purpose is for him to benefit the entire country. When Mordechai said to Esther, “And who knows whether it was for a time like this that you attained royalty?,” his doubt concerned only her, but regarding himself, he knew with certainty that he had the obligation and merit to use his position for the benefit of the entire country. Two excerpts from sichah of Purim 5744 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=25-03-2024

Especially since it is still the night after Purim, and in matters of kodashim, “the night follows the day.” And in this case, it is the night of Purim itself for walled cities. In Divine service there is the service of “walled cities” and “unwalled cities,” each with its own advantage. For example, in the obligation of “becoming intoxicated to the point of not knowing” on Purim, there are those who fulfill it by sleeping…and those who fulfill it literally—and fortunate is their lot. His father replied: If so, we need to say “new Chassidus” (and not the maamar he had been planning to say). He added: On Shabbat... there will be nice guests. Indeed, that Shabbos, and on Purim the next day, the Rebbe Nishmaso Eden delivered maamarim on the same topics as those of the Alter Rebbe’s maamarim in 5547 (1787). My father-in-law, the Rebbe concluded that nowadays, one can validly complain about all the confusion that there is, and may Hashem remove the validity of this complaint. Being that “The words of tzaddikim endure forever,” and there is no lack of grounds to complain about things that cause confusion today, either – therefore, certainly the plea of a tzaddik that Hashem remove the validity of such complaints…remains in force now, too. Our concern that the villagers in remote places have the ability to hear the Megillah reading further emphasizes how central Ahavas Yisroel is to Purim, as also emphasized in the mitzvos of Mishloach Manos and Matanos L’evyonim. (2) On a year like this, when there are three days from Taanis Esther to Purim, there is more time to prepare b’hidur for the days of Purim. “Action is the main thing,” and “One urges only those who are vigilant” – with regards to Mivtza Purim in every country, and bringing joy to those in particular need of it, such as those in hospitals, nursing homes, orphanages, etc.Excerpt from sichah of Thursday, Parashas Tetzaveh, Taanis Esther (Mukdam) 5740 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=21-03-2024

The lesson is: as with “this evil Haman,” these three stages occur with the counsel of “this evil inclination” as well: First the yetzer hara tries to scare a child, telling him that serving Hashem is too difficult. When it sees that this doesn’t work – it “Contrives a scheme” and “speaks words,” telling him to tell his parents, etc. that he’s too tired to daven and say brachos etc. – but the child need not be deterred because “it will be foiled…for G-d is with us.” And when the yetzer hara sees that this doesn’t work either – it tells him how adhering to Torah requires him to remove himself and “be delivered” from certain thing; he won’t be able to play ball like his non-Jewish neighbors on Shabbos etc. – but “To old age I am [with you]…and I will deliver you” – Hashem helps him succeed in this throughout his entire life. The knowledge that one has the power to nullify the counsel of the yetzer hara and be completely victorious over it – empowers one’s practical service of Torah and mitzvos, and with joy, which brings “light and joy” in every generation and every place, up to the “eternal joy” of the true and complete Redemption.Top of FormExcerpt from sichah of Wednesday, Parshas Tzav, 10 Adar Sheini, Erev Taanis Esther 5744 to Tzivos Hashem For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=20-03-2024

As the Midrash states, when Haman’s decree was sealed, Mordechai encountered three Jewish children and asked them, “Tell me your verse” (that is, the verse that you live by). One replied with the verse “Do not fear sudden terror etc.”; to show that this wasn’t an isolated incident but the conduct of every Jewish child – he asked a second child, who replied with the verse, “Contrive a scheme, but it will be foiled etc.”; then, to show that this has a chazakah – he asked a third child, who replied with the verse, “To your old age I am [with you]…I will deliver you.” The order of the three verses corresponds to the sequence of events: First, [the decree] was only in thought, “Haman’s scheme,” to which comes the verse “Do not fear, etc.” – negating the fear of something that might come (and “the darkness of the wicked” – who wish to darken and weaken the lives of the Jewish people which are illuminated by the light of Torah). Later, Haman’s thought was expressed in speech, when he consulted with other ministers and presented the plan to Achashverosh – to which comes the verse “Contrive a scheme, but it will be foiled, speak a word but it will not materialize etc.” Later, Achashverosh accepted the plan and the decree was enacted – to which comes the verse, “To your old age [I am with you]…I will deliver you” – from the decree. We know that the giving of the Torah was not originally revealed in the lower hemisphere; thus we can understand the significance of the center of Chassidus Chabad being established here specifically – revealing and spreading the inner dimension of Torah. And the main revelation of the giving of the Torah was the inner dimension of Torah (as emphasized in the verse “I am Hashem your G-d etc.”). Every year on the 9th of Adar, this is repeated and renewed – a renewed revelation of the inner dimension of Torah in the lower hemisphere. Farbrengens should be held to mark the occasion, especially on Shabbos and during the days of Purim, and it should be done everywhere, first and foremost in the capital city of the Nasi Hador, in Brooklyn – “Holiness does not move from its place” etc.Two excerpts from sichah of 9 Adar 5750 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=18-03-2024

ב' חלקים משיחת יום ג', ז' אדר שני ה'תשל"ו ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=17-03-2024 Synopsis On the verse, “The Jews had light and joy and gladness and honor,” the Gemara says, “light means Torah;” that is, the result of Purim was that it led to more Torah study, and this must also be inner purpose of Mivtza Purim: no matter what aspect of Purim is being emphasized and discussed, it must inspire people to understand that “light means Torah” – the preciousness of Torah. Nothing is more precious to a person than his life, and the Torah “is our life!” And “action is the main thing” – to study Torah, with enthusiasm and light, and “whoever increases in this, is praiseworthy.” This is the inner purpose of this farbrengen: to emphasize in advance that Mivtza Purim must be done with a focus toward increasing in Torah study and education according to Torah. And in truth, this is mentioned explicitly in the Gemara on the verse “The Jews upheld and accepted etc.,” during the days of Purim “what they had already accepted” when the Torah was given, and they accepted it “upon their offspring” as well, for all generations. And when we one influences others in this regard, Hashem shines His countenance toward him in everything, and especially, granting him tremendous success in his Torah study. Two excerpts from sichah of Tuesday, 7 Adar Sheini 5736 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=17-03-2024 לזכות שניאור זלמן הכהן בן רוזה חנה שי' ליום ההולדת שלו ז' אדר – לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובותנדבת אביו ר' ‏אברהם הכהן שי'‏

We learn this from the construction of the Mishkan, where the people who constructed it are generally not mentioned by name. And the truth is that the Mishkan was built and erected only by the power of Moshe Rabbeinu (as it says in Revi’i of Parashas Pekudei). Similarly, in our generation, one must know that the building of the Mishkan in every place is by the power of and through the Rebbe! Since the function of the Mishkan is the indwelling of the Shechinah, therefore, even after it has been built, its holiness constantly increases every day (like the explanation of the Rebbe Maharash’s instruction to the Rebbe Nishmaso Eden’ to review every maamar 60 times – that the difference between the 60th time and the 59th time is even greater than the difference between the 60th time and the first time). The same applies to the Mishkan within every Jew: even after it has been built, one must “ascend in holiness” every day. And since one is connected to the leader of the generation, who is without limit, his Divine service must also be without limit.Excerpt from sichah of Yud Shevat 5714 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=15-03-2024

(2) “If one says to another: ‘Come and stand together with the [one] witness [I already have]. You do not have to testify, but the borrower will become frightened and panic, thinking that you are two witnesses and he will admit the debt on his own volition’…With regard to this and similar matter it says: ‘Keep distant from a false word.’” False testimony is so severe even for one to even give the appearance that he is going to testify –and in a way that will bring the borrower to confess and do teshuvah – is forbidden. The reason is because the whole purpose of a Jew’s creation is to be “My witnesses” – to serve as testimony to Hashem and for “the name of Heaven to be beloved through you.” Thus, when one gives false testimony chas v’shalom, he defies the whole purpose of his creation, and desecrates Hashem’s Name – something exceedingly severe etc.Three excerpts from sichah of Purim Katan 5746 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=14-03-2024

משיחת פורים ה'תשל"ה ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=13-03-2024 Synopsis The point is not that the teacher must be a Yerei Shamayim – that much is obvious. Rather, the point is that the student must get the sense that the kamatz-alef-uh he learns is the kamatz-alef-uh of Anochi Hashem Elokecha, which includes the entire Torah, and thus the teacher instills the entire Torah in the child. And if the teacher argues that back in his day, there was no such emphasis in yeshiva on instilling Yiras Shamayim – back then, people were “healthy,” but these days, Rachmana litzlan, every teacher and educator is considered a “healer of the souls of the Jewish people”! One cannot leave a child to wander alone in the darkness! The first thing is to put him in a place of light, to know that he is a child of Hashem, Who watches over him and examines his conduct. This is the purpose of teaching him Torah; the Torah study is necessary to ensure he will “repudiate idolatry” (which is quality for which we are called “Yehudim,” as the Gemara says in Megillah). And the educator must instill this in the child already at a young age, when the child goes to play in kindergarten and learns the Alef-Beis – that the foundation of everything is Anochi Hashem Elokecha. And all the more so when the child becomes Bar/Bas Mitzvah etc. This is the lesson from the days of Purim – that Mordechai, the head of the Sanhedrin, personally involved himself in this – and this is what nullified and will nullify all decrees.Excerpt from sichah of Purim 5735 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=13-03-2024 לזכות שלום אברהם בן קרן ברכה לבנה שי' ליום ההולדת שלו ג' אדר שני - לשנת ברכה והצלחה, ואריכות ימים ושנים טובותנדבת ‏הוריו ר' יהודה וזוגתו שיחיו גוזלן

ב' חלקים משיחת פורים ה'תשל"ה ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=12-03-2024 Synopsis The Midrash states that when Mordechai gathered children to teach them Torah, they said “We are with you,” whether for life or the opposite. The fundamental lesson is: The world thinks that the purpose of a school is to impart knowledge, whether ordinary knowledge in a non-Jewish school, or Torah knowledge in a religious school, without focusing on improving character and conduct. Thus, it is possible for a child to finish his schooling just as much like a “wild donkey” as when he was born! (And although regarding Torah study there is the promise that “the luminary within it will bring him back to good” – but we don’t know how long that will take.) But really the purpose of a school is to inculcate the students with positive traits, with love and fear of Hashem – so that they cry out, “We are with you,” whether for life or the opposite. And “If there is no fear, there is no wisdom.” This is what the school principal must know: No matter what subject is being taught – the goal and emphasis of it all must be fear of Hashem and conduct according to the Torah! And this is the great trouble with college: they demand only knowledge of the material, and don’t care about positive behavior. And these days, this must be emphasized regarding yeshivas as well: These days, when the conduct a child sees at home isn’t as it should be, and the child isn’t receiving fear of Hashem at home, there is no choice but to send the child to a cheder, Talmud Torah, or yeshiva that is founded on fear of heaven! Two excerpts from sichah of Purim 5735 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=12-03-2024

And everyone is blessed by Hashem to be directed in such a way that the “many counselors” will provide proper guidance, and to have proper healing, and so, too, regarding shidduchim – to establish an everlasting edifice based on the foundations of the Torah and mitzvos, and so, too, tremendous success in all physical and spiritual needs – as befitting an only child of Hashem! But on the other hand, the verse specifically emphasizes that there’s a rich person and there’s a poor person – distinctions among the Jewish people. The explanation is: the half-shekel reflects mesiras-nefesh; even the most unworthy Jew is prepared to literally sacrifice their life, and therefore when it comes to the act of giving the half-shekel, they were all equal. But mesiras-nefesh also requires the involvement of the inner dimension of the soul; it must permeate all ten faculties of the soul. And here there is a distinction: one gives the ten faculties of the “rich,” and another gives the ten faculties of the “poor.” The practical lesson is that every Jew is a servant of Hashem, surrendering himself and his will to Hashem etc. And this aspect, which is the main thing, applies equally to all. But one must also strive for this to permeate the ten faculties of the soul, each according to his level.Excerpt from sichah of Motza’ei Shabbos Parashas Shekalim 5738 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=08-03-2024

Therefore, a person is given the privilege of a Divine service in which it seems like he is being distanced from it all, and specifically where he doesn’t see its quality – because it is specifically in this way that he reaches an even greater level – connection to the Divine Essence and Being. Two excerpts from sichah of Purim 5715 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=07-03-2024

Similarly, in the context of Jewish education: even if the law requires schools to teach secular studies, why do people have enjoyment from it?! If that’s what you have to do, at least go into your room afterwards and cry about it! Why do you enjoy the fact that “that wicked one” heaps praise upon your child and invites him to “the feast”...to the point that it’s become the custom in this country that when a child excels in holy subjects, nobody makes a big deal about it, but when the child excels in secular subjects, they publish it in the newspapers and give awards etc.! It must be known that this approach demonstrates the overall difference between the attitude towards the divine soul and the animal soul, and this approach destroys the foundations of proper Jewish education! משיחת י"א ניסן ה'תשמ"ג ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=05-03-2024 Synopsis A simple lesson from a birthday – the day a person is born – based on the verse: “Man is born to toil”: When a person argues, how can he be expected to forego his personal benefit, and change a certain behavior he has been accustomed to for so many years – the answer comes from the idea of a “birthday”: Every morning, and according to the teaching of the Baal Shem Tov, every moment, a person is born anew and becomes a new creature; thus every day is a “birthday.” Therefore, it is clear that it doesn’t matter what his previous state was etc., because everything begins anew. And obviously this is particularly emphasized on the actual day of one’s birthday.Excerpt from sichah of 11 Nissan 5743 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=05-03-2024

We can understand this based on Rashi’s comment on the verse in Parashas Vayakhel, “They spun the goat hair”: Rashi explains that they spun the hair while it was still on the goats, so that it would be fresher etc. Therefore, they had to keep watch over the goats until it came time to spin the curtains, and for this reason they made the goat hair curtains first: so that the goats could be released earlier, rather than cause them to suffer by holding them until after the beams were made. (This also explains why they made curtains of twisted linen beforehand.) The lesson is that one should be careful to avoid causing suffering to animals, and all the more so to a human being, and all the more so a Jew. When one encounters a Jew who is “naked of mitzvos” – he must cover him immediately, without taking into account the “way of the world” according to which one might do it only after davening, learning, eating breakfast and resting etc.Two excerpts from sichah of Motza’ei Shabbos Parashas Vayakhel-Pekudei 5739 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=04-03-2024

ב' חלקים משיחת מוצש"ק פ' כי תשא ה'תשל"ט ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=03-03-2024 Synopsis The simple meaning of the name Vayakhel is a “gathering” of the Jewish people, which in and of itself is a most lofty thing; especially the gathering at the beginning of Parashas Vayakhel, which led to the donations for and building of the Mishkan, which causes Hashem to “dwell among them.” The lesson, based on the Midrash, is that this is an instruction for all time, to “assemble gatherings,” especially on Shabbos, (as in Parashas Vayakhel), and especially when the gathering follows the reading of this portion in the Torah. And as long as a Jew chooses to utilize the “Vayakhel” properly, it will lead to “donating toward the Mishkan,” and when he joins with other Jews – we will have the “building of the Mishkan” practically, with the dwelling of Divine Presence within it etc.Two excerpts from sichah of Motza’ei Shabbos Parashas Ki Sisa 5739 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=03-03-2024

ג' חלקים מהתוועדות מוצש"ק פ' כי תשא, פ' פרה ה'תשל"ט ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=01-03-2024 Synopsis The Zohar on Parashas Ki Sisa states that when the Tanna’im, etc., heard something wondrous, they would tie knots in order not to forget it. The reason a knot prevents forgetting is because forgetting comes from kelipas nogah etc., and therefore, a “doubled and redoubled” force is needed to nullify, similar to a knot (as explained in Iggeres HaKodesh). This then is expressed physically, in that a knot helps to prevent forgetting. And the reason that a knot helps even a non-Jew remember (as we find regarding Pharaoh’s chief cupbearer, who “tied knots” so as not to forget about Yosef), is because if tying knots was effective only for the Jewish people and not for the nations of the world, that would diminish the free choice of the Jewish people with regards to Yiddishkeit (which is also the reason why the Jewish body resembles that of nations of the world). Remembering, and not forgetting, are particularly important for Yiddishkeit: when a person remembers that he is newly created every moment from absolute nothingness by Hashem Himself – it’s impossible for him to transgress Hashem’s will. And with the imminent coming of Moshiach very soon, we will see openly, without needing to “remember” it, that “mouth of Hashem spoke” and literally brings all existence into creation.Three excerpts from farbrengen of Motza’ei Shabbos Parashas Ki Sisa, Parashas Parah 5739 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=01-03-2024

משיחת י"ג תמוז ה'תשכ"ט ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=29-02-2024 Synopsis (1) On the verse “He was there with Hashem for forty days and forty nights; he ate no bread and drank no water,” the Midrash states: “From where did Moshe know when it was day and when it was night… When he saw the angels praising Him with ‘Kadosh,’ he knew it was day, and when he saw them praising with ‘Baruch,’ he knew it was night.” Obviously, when Moshe was on the mountain learning Torah directly from Hashem, he was totally above time, just like his “Teacher”; if so, why did he need to know whether it was day or night at all?! It is because the ultimate purpose of creation is to transform physicality into spirituality. Thus, Hashem told Moshe that even when he reaches a level that transcends time, he must still maintain a connection to time, so that when he descends from the mountain, he can bring the preciousness of this level to Torah down to the Jewish people. (2) Moshe had mesiras-nefesh even for those who made the golden calf, asking Hashem to forgive them, “and if not – please blot me out of Your book etc.” And this is despite the fact that Moshe could not in any way be blamed for their actions as the “head” of the Jewish people (as known from the verse "and I will place them on your heads”) because he was on the mountain when it happened.Excerpt from sichah of 13 Tammuz 5729 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=29-02-2024

But the point is the spiritual inheritance passed down from the Patriarchs and Matriarchs, Avraham, Yitzchak, and Yaakov, and Sarah, Rivkah, Rachel, and Leah. Every Jewish boy and girl should know that they have been given the most precious “inheritance” and “heritage”: “The Torah that Moshe commanded us is the inheritance of the congregation of Yaakov,” and it must be cherished and used properly. (2) The idea of an “inheritance” in Divine service: Every Jew has three aspects: “We are fortunate, how goodly is our portion…our lot…our inheritance.” “Inheritance” refers to the love and fear every Jew inherits from the Patriarchs. However, since an inheritance comes automatically and without effort on the part of the heir, it is like “bread of shame”; therefore, one’s personal effort is also required, namely, “our portion” (the service with the inner faculties) and “our lot” (the service with the encompassing faculties). That is, the “inheritance” every Jew has, should permeate their entire being (“inheriting everything”).(1) Excerpt from sichah of Wednesday, Parashas Ki Sisa, 12 Adar 5745, to members of Tzivos Hashem. One can do this simply by contemplating the verse in today’s Chumash, “Then I and Your people will be distinguished from every nation [person] on the face of the earth” – where the “distinction” is in an exceptional manner, such that no “choosing” is possible between Jew and non-Jew because there is no commonality between them at all. Similarly, one attains this strength by contemplating how “every Jew has a portion in the World to Come” etc., and how every Jew is an only child of the King, King of Kings, the Holy One, Blessed be He, Who sent him to make a dwelling for Him in the lower realms – by conducting himself according to the Shulchan Aruch, and going “beyond the letter of the law,” with the guidance of the teachings Chassidus and our Rebbe’im – as explained in the aforementioned maamar.Excerpt from sichah of Tuesday, Purim Katan 5738 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=27-02-2024

Therefore, it is specifically the second Luchos that endure forever. This is the connection to the days of Purim, when the Torah was accepted wholeheartedly by the Jewish people of their own accord – “they confirmed what they had already accepted.” The special quality of the second Luchos is also alluded to in the conclusion of the Torah, which states, “which Moshe performed before the eyes of the entire Jewish people.” As Rashi explains, this refers to the fact that “his heart moved him to break the Luchos before their eyes...Well done for breaking them.” It was specifically through breaking the Luchos that there became an abundance of Torah in the second Luchos – a “double portion of wisdom”: breaking the Luchos caused the Jewish people to have a broken heart, “Let my soul be like dust to all,” which made them fit for the “double portion of wisdom” – “Open my heart to Your Torah.” And all this happened through Moshe – “Hew for yourself.”Excerpt from sichah of Purim 5745 For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=26-02-2024

This is connected to the order in the beginning of Parashas Ki Sisa (the census, followed by the commandment of the Kiyor, followed by the anointing oil and the Ketores): After the Jewish people are ready for the Redemption, Hashem promises to “Take lift the head of the Jewish people” with the coming of Moshiach immediately, when the Jewish people will be exalted. Consequently, immediately afterwards one must “wash” his “hands” (“doing good”) and his “feet” (“running from evil”), to remove any “dust,” anything undesirable that has accumulated throughout the exile ( “polishing of the buttons”); immediately after that, we merit the building of the Third Beis Hamikdash (“and you shall anoint with it the Tent of Meeting etc.”) and the services within it, of which the loftiest service is the offering of the ketores. Two excerpts from sichah of Tuesday, Parashas Ki Sisa, 16 Adar 5747, in Yechidus Klalis For a transcript in English of the Sicha: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=25-02-2024 לעילוי נשמת ר' אברהם ב"ר חיים יהושע ע"ה ליום היארצייט שלו ט"ו אדר ראשון. ת.נ.צ.ב.ה.
