I sit here trying to find the words to describe the story that took place, the hidden message behind our choir project, Neshome’le. Written by the legendary Abie Rotenberg, the song details the journey of a soul down to this earth. We hear of its reluctance to leave the pure heavens, and the assurance from an angel on high that it will come down to this earth to do good, to make a difference, to change lives of others, and to leave it’s mark. A message so powerful, one that reminds us all of the mission we are here to do.
And just before its release, our song took an unexpected turn, one that proves so deeply how the hand of Hashem is in every moment. Because when I chose to do this song with my amazing choir girls, when we recorded the vocals for Neshome’le 6 months ago, we had no idea just how real these words would become.
On June 2nd, just a few weeks ago, Charlotte Herzberg a”H, a dear friend, a girl in our choir - a soloist, passed away in a tragic accident. And Neshome’le? It felt like Charlottes last message to us all. The song became that much more meaningful, that much more close to home. To hear Charlotte tell us, tell the world, that she’s “safe & warm in Heaven”… it’s something I cannot put words to.
But it’s more than that. Charlotte didn’t leave us. Following in the promise of the song, she left a legacy behind, a movement of peace - Shalom For Charlotte. One little 8.5 year old girl inspiring thousands across the globe to forgive, to let go…. Leaving her mark and fulfilling the mission her soul came down to do.
We miss you so much Charlotte, and we will forever think of you as we hear you sing us your song. The world is darker without you, but we will keep your light with us, forever and fill the world with more light in your honor. Take the pledge at Shalomforcharlotte.com and help continue make the world a brighter place, for Charlotte.
Never doubt how powerful you are. Each one of us comes down to earth for a short amount of time, and you too, have a mission. Search for it, find it, and leave your mark, too.
And Charlotte? One thing we know. She’s earned a place right by the throne.
All my love,
Shaindy Plotzker
